This is basically the gist of it: if there were early surrenders available due to AFKers, premades would exploit it to waste peoples' time.
Additionally, there's a reason why you don't get reduced LP loss when you have an AFKer: EXPLOITERS! If one team is losing, they'll just tell one or two players to AFK to avoid LP decay.
Riot, please put something like this up as a sticky.

You feed FB as top and jungler/mid tell you "go uninstall and leave nub"
What are you gonna do? Are you gonna say "oh man, I really suck, I better uninstall and leave."
Nope. Half of the time you will stay quiet, mute them and keep playing, the other half you will say "lol you think I suck now? just wait" and right click enemy fountain.

Sir ArmaMalum3 votesOn the note of LP loss: It also has the effect of allowing the rest of the team to intentionally flame one guy out of the game to get them reduced LP loss. So if one guy gets a run of bad luck at the beginning of a game he can either a) leave and suffer the point loss or b) keep playing with a team that resents him/her for not leaving.

With a reduced LP loss people have an active reason to flame someone out of a game, and unfortunately muting someone doesn't shield you from a dedicated asshole. Following and taking creep, informing the team of your position, among many other ways to get someone to leave a game. I agree that the average game will just run its course, but the fact is a Riot implemented system gives someone a reason to flame someone else. No one wants that.

if my team flames me like that, I don't read their text. All I see on the screen is "please don't leave. I want a full penalty loss right now."
Sir ArmaMalum1 votesThat doesn't solve the issue, it's just creating another one. With the hypothetical reduced LP loss system your logic is to just flame back, whereas with the current system you can just ignore them and keep playing, and they have no incentive to go out of their way to harass you.
