how to improve 'macro play'?

i play many top lane champs and seems to be my biggest issue is being too stingy with roams or tp plays (sometimes i don't even tp to my own lane in a game), but i do not know when it is a good time to leave lane or when to split push

how to improve this 'macro play' to play at diamond level? ty
