bruiser items need to be more than raw stats

Mens Hair Club··22 votes·1,218 views

this is the biggest reason their items get abused so often

when items like cleaver sterak have good stats they're gonna get picked by other champs. titanic too to a lesser extent

bruiser items need to offer passives and actives specifically desirable to melee fighters. ways to get around heavy CC chaining and kiting are most important to them

this would also solve the "stat checking" problem for many older bruisers, if their items were changed to have meaningful decisions and gameplay rather than giving them as many stats as they can afford, they mostly would not stat check anymore

ty buff bruisers

worst straw man I've seen yet

Laughing out LOUDE dude :)

You don't get Elixir until 4-5 items. You can't build Swiftness or Mercs because not having Ninja Tabi makes ADCs melt you.

Righteous GLory is stopped by frontline. Frozen Mallet is a ranged champion item. Iceborn is tanks only, not bruisers. Omen is their own grace and ONLY. Deadman's sucks.

Locket isn't bruiser item. Hexdrinker isn't a bruiser item because Maw + Sterak's was deleted. Wit's End is unusable.

it's not worth trying to explain it to these jabronis

Tenacity and slow resist is really useful against the knockups and displacements that 60% of champions have.

LordGeovanni1 votes

wait how does a health scaling item help me with destroying towers.

Oerba No Naja1 votes

Titanic gives you a better waweclear , obviously u get faster to turret , and it gives a auto reset .

LordGeovanni1 votes

that isnt helping destroy the towers that is helping push to towers where the enemy could just as well have waveclear.

Oerba No Naja1 votes

IF THERE IS A ENEMY WHO WAWECLEAR U DONT SPLIT PUSH , GETTING FASTER TO TURRET WITH A BONUS AUTO ALONE ON A LANE MAKES YOU PUSHING FASTER , ITS JUST LOGIC

Riot needs to not be too scared to add melee specific passives to items. I would be more than happy to see item 3812 item 3046 (% Damage Reduction and % Damage Delay) be less effective for ranged champions (or more effective for melee). Riot could do the same thing with item 3047 Damage Reduction from Basic Attacks and item 3111 Tenacity.

There are so many things Riot could do to items that ADCs abuse if they're willing to tweak their passives in favour of Melee champions.

decision is to buff bruisers

Decisions on what passive would be nice.

Mens Hair Club2 votes

actives would be preferred but I wouldn't complain of sterak got a few seconds of CC reduction

An effect i think would be good would be to make a new hydra that causes your on hits do damage to the cleaved targets too. It would make it into something like a runaans for melee's.

Spoofghoul1 votes

Imagine that on Sion's passive alongside mallet

Shadow Hazard1 votes

but then he loses out on titanic since you can't stack the hydra's. I was thinking of the benefit that it would be on a bunch of the ex melee devourer champs.

I'm all for adding tenacity/slow resistance and removing CDR, but it's almost impossible for bruiser itemization to be good without another class abusing it and getting it nerfed. I've yet to see it happen.

Also, I think this might be the first time in League history that tank itemization has been strong, yet bruisers haven't directly benefited from it. I think bruiser itemization needs to have more actives, along with tenacity. It's the only way the immobile ones can keep up with how the game has evolved (or devolved, depending on how you look at it).

The problem is tank itemization ISN'T strong. Tank items are ass, they just massively over buffed the individual champions to compensate for their ass items. If you want to do this to bruisers too it would work, but that leads us down a slippery slope to where items have essentially no value and removing build and play diversity on individual champs.

Mens Hair Club2 votes

some bruisers should be item reliant

the problem is how shitty riot's itemization actually is, to where anything that isn't crit is a snowball build and that's reflected in all champs besides ADCs. they need to undo a shitload of item changes and removals from years back that shit on tank/bruiser scaling in favor of faster power-spikes and give us back some of the items that let us scale proper if we were willing to opt into more expensive builds

I think you might be right. I was playing a Sion game earlier and still blowing up with a full tank build (while tickling people with my damage), but with Cho'gath I can go full tank and still kill things. So yeah, itemization isn't particularly strong, it's just individual champs.

Sion was one of those champs who got rediculous buffs. Now he's not ass anymore, but his items still are. But since you bring him up, I'll use him as an example.

Tl;Dr at bottom.

Think about this: before the buffs, sion would get around 400 bonus hp at 20 minutes, and would generally reach 800 hp by 40 minutes leaving him with about 2500 hp without items.

Now, sion can easily break 600 hp by 20 minutes and almost 1000 by 30 minutes. This gives him 2700 hp without items, 200 more hp, 10 minutes EARLIER.

He is likely to have 1200+ hp at 40 minutes, and all this hp just makes it easier to enter lane and into fights which will give him even MORE hp. Thus, he can possibly have 3000 hp without items by 40 minutes. That's INSANE. That buff is absolutely mind bogglingly MASSIVE, and it just managed to put him back to his power level BEFORE the tank rework.

Now if there was ANY better example I would use it, but this is honestly the best way to show how absolutely awful the tank update really was.

That is also why I couldn't play any tank since the update. It was actually more painful than having a migraine (like I thought that was possible). I only play league with my friends now because it has become so unfun that I need someone to cheer me up while I try to play. I won't go on any more because now I'm just ranting.

Tl;Dr The massive sion buffs are a very clear indication that the tank update and all of its items suck.

I did notice I had a ton of HP earlier than normal. I'm going to do some experimenting, but I'm thinking it might be more cost effective to build mostly damage on him (after 1-2 hp/defensive items), at least right now.

SzGamer2271 votes

Phage's passive does this to some extent. Buffing this would feel really good as a start.

There needs to be more ways to counter getting cc locked too, and it has to be useful against knockups and displacements.

Mens Hair Club2 votes

phage is useless as far as the ranged v melee matchup goes

outside of killing a minion and then trying to rush the ranged it's not going to do you many favors

SzGamer2271 votes

That's why I said a buff would be nice. XD

One of the biggest problems is that bruisers, especially juggernauts, inherently need a lot of durability mixed with a lot of damage from the items they like to buy.

And it's sad because juggernauts aren't just stat sticks with no counterplay, Darius is a shining example of a juggernaut with loads of counterplay. But he still needs to have big stat stick items like cleaver in order to function.

Mens Hair Club1 votes

bruisers especially juggernauts should get huge boosts to their base stats (it's laughable that they're even remotely close to some ADCs in terms of lvl 18 defensive bases) and items that let them cover up key weaknesses with actives ( cancer CC chains most importantly, since we can opt into a raw tank item for anti-kite. miss old randuin's though )
