Ranked Draft Pick improvements

There are a few things about (ranked) draft pick that people have been complaining about a lot. In this thread I will bring up two at once because the second one kind of needs the first one to work.

  1. Add a 'swap position' button during the champion select phase (from the first second until your champion has been locked). This will be like 'swapping champion' but instead it will swap your position. Why? Because swapping champions is a mess in soloQ. People don't have all champions so you have to waste time and efforts to make sure you have eachothers' champ. Secondly, there can always be trolls who just don't switch champs after saying that they would or simply forget to switch the champs afterwards (afk and stuff). Switching position is a more intuitive way for what champ switch usually accomplishes in soloQ. However, Swapping champions should still exist because it allows for flex picks to be swapped around (like trundle top -> support). The champion swap is in a different stage of the champion select so these two buttons won't conflict.

  2. New requirement for playing a champion in ranked: At least mastery level 2 on that champion (which means at least 2 wins or a lot of losses on a champ). This will accomplish multiple positive things:

  • No more first time this champion in ranked which everyone hates. Test your champs in normal before picking it up in ranked.
  • This preserves the feeling that ranked is something where you play competitively and not just a second draft pick mode.
  • New players will need to have played some sort of champion diversity in order to play ranked. (You need 16 owned champions with mastery 2 or above). Mastery 2 is not hard to get, but it makes sure that someone doesn't have played only one champion in his life and still doesn't know anything about the game despite being level 30.
  • Smurf accounts who spam one champion will have to spend some time on others. Everyone hates smurfs, including some Rioters, so everything that makes them sad makes us happy.

I think that with the new client in alpha phase, this is a good moment to suggest such change to champion select and champion mastery has been out long enough to use it as a requirement now. I feel like it does a better job than the 1-30 level system.

Smurf accounts who spam one champion will have to spend some time on others. Everyone hates smurfs, including some Rioters, so everything that makes them sad makes us happy.

then the smurfs like me will not play ~100 bot games to get lv30 we will just troll in normal games for mastery points with weekly free cheap heroes also add in a bot since its to annoying to play the lv-up game yourself

your suggestion will only hurt the people that smurf and trying to avoid doing damage to the community while doing so (without hacking and 90% bot games). Others smurfs will not give a fuck.

That being said, I like the idea. But it will in no way, shape or form help you with your smurf hate or problem.

  1. Even with 10% of your games being non-bot games, you would have 16 champions at mastery level 2 if you don't spam one all the time
  2. Only champions that you own count towards the ranked requirements. You need to play champs that you own or buy them later if you choose to play free week champions.
  3. If they bot in pvp games they will be banned a lot faster. In bot games they will just use bots themselves because few people bother to report there (as long as they win). You will actually have to play the game to get a fresh ranked-ready account.
  4. Smurfs will be playing pvp matches at some point. Whether they do it pre or post lvl 30, some matches will be ruined before their MMR skyrockets.
  5. Annoying smurfs wasn't the main intend of this post, I just came up with it as I was writing. It doesn't bother them a lot, but every bit helps, I guess.

  1. its easy for a smurf to win some weekend game mode and get mastery points

  2. no, actually you can get mastery points on any champion. But only up to lv4. I've tested this. Have an account where I spammed Katarina when she was free, only got lv4, it won't lv up to 5. But I got up to lv4.

  3. false statement. Players using bots are being reported in bot games too, and riot doesn't ban them. Even if they would bot in pvp, riot will still not ban them, afterall they stated several times that "the amount of reports doesn't matter". And this was done in order to prevent premades having an even bigger advantage for being premades

  4. the question is how much do you want your games ruined by smurfs? as I said, those that want to ruin your games, will proceed on doing that, without a single change if we were to use your system. Those that were like me and avoided pvp as much as possible until lv 30. To avoid running other people games. And with your system I would care less about other people and spam pvp games on my smurf while trolling and fucking around coz who the fuck cares if i win or not right? and then you will hate your games even more

  5. its not "it will annoy them". It will only annoy the ones that go out of their way to make sure we don't spoil your fun. Those that you hate will still do their stuff. But the ones like me will turn into the other type as well.

Its like you got poison and water. Maybe only a bit of water, but you will change that into poison too :D

So, as far as smurfing in correlation with the rest of the players is considered. This change will be a negative one. However, I think this negative aspect can be overlooked since it also gives other positives as you said at the start. That's all, wanted to correct you as the part of "its gona hurt smurfs" is not accurate in the slightest, while others are sort of ok ^^

The point was that it would be slightly harder for smurfs to enter ranked which would mean slightly less smurfs infiltrating the silver ranks. As for lvl <30 you're probably right, I overlooked that. I think that the smurf issue whether positive or negative will have only a small influence and I probably shouldn't even have mentioned it as it draws too much attention.
