I feel like Deadman's Plate needs to be made more accessible

Tl;dr - Give Deadman's another Ruby Crystal in it's build path

I've always enjoyed this item, it has a solid juggernaut feel to it. Recently I've been building Deadman's a lot when I find myself in sub optimal matchups vs highly mobile bruisers or poke champions. It adds a bit of extra utility and surviveablility against champions that typically want to run you down while also giving you better map pressure, letting you contribute your strengths to other parts of the map instead of feeding your laner. It also just feels lovely to play with champs like Garen or Poppy.

However Deadman's incremental buys are considerably steep given the current damage meta. It's 1000 for the Giant's Belt, 800 for the Chain Vest, and then a whopping 1100 for the final Deadman's buy. This is a MASSIVE final purchase price considering the strength of other items out there. This hurts more because Deadman's is typically an early buy to make the most of the item. Back to fountain with 2500 gold this game? Well, either buy into another item and slow your Deadman's buy or carry the extra 400 gold back to lane. Meanwhile your opponent just bought two damage items that also give CDR with just barely enough left for a pink ward. So they come back to lane with 20%cdr, damage, sustain, mana, or whatever they decided to mix with while potentially still building into a single desired item. Meanwhile you just come back with some defensive stats and extra gold begging to be spent. This feels far more constrictive than it should and is compounded by the fact that Deadman's build path doesn't provide anything extra to help generate gold or trade, so that final buy may take even longer while you sit with unspent gold. Items like Sunfire and Thornmail circumvent this feeling by throwing in an extra ruby crystal in the mix while STILL offering some level of utility in their build path.

Why can't we have the same with Deadman's? I'm not saying to put a weaker version of the Dreadnought passive in it's build path ala Bramble Vest, but simply adding a ruby crystal to the build would really help with that little defensive oomph. It would also make Deadman's more accessible to champs other than the niche selections who simply want the Dreadnought passive. Hopefully this is a change that can be looked into and implemented.

It's more of an issue that top tanks don't actually have a first item like every other class. No options that give 20% CDR along with other stats they need. Unlike other classes you have to actually sacrifice a stat if you want that (going Gauntlet or Heart instead of Sunfire or Deadman's), then you're essentially screwing yourself because every top laner is bringing true damage and if they see you going into gauntlet they can even build Cleaver instead of their go-to Triforce.

I've tried coming up with an item that simultaneously works for tanks but also can't be abused by fighters/juggernauts, but people tend to just look at the components and completely ignore the explanation. A lot of people don't seem to understand the mechanic of total effective health.

Honestly its not Worth the buy

Perhaps they don't want to make the single highest MS item in the game easier to acquire.

Putting a ruby crystal in the build path would make it so you lose health upon finishing the item. Giants belt gives 380, deadmans gives 425.

Instead of changing the item to take up 3 slots, why not just reduce the combine cost?

Yeah, tanks tend to rush components before full items which is unique. Cowl and Vest/Cinder + T2 boots are usually standard before an item is completed. This is completely different from any other champion except the ones that build tiamat first, which is also rare nowadays (is it just Trundle? Lol idk).

Unpopular Opinion: Making the passive damage proc on Dash ability. ( Poppy E, Alistar W, Hecarim R. )

How about if they buffed it (more armor and add health regen) and added item 2053 to its build path? That way you get a small, situational version of the speed boost while you're building it

Deadman's sucks. Period. Cost efficiency is trash, and the passive is gimmicky at best. Item needs to be reinvented. Maybe make the item grant resistances and MS the longer you stay IN fight and remove the damage and the slow. It's just bad atm

wait

wait

I got it

item 1031 item 1011 item 2015

item 3742 Same cost, add some attack speed, make the passive an energize effect

boom

you got yourself a horrible balance mistake

let's do it riot

I've never really seen deadman's plate as a first item/lane option. I've seen it as a mid game-late game option that just helps me catch up to mobile champs(ezreal, riven) and also gives me armor. And usually in mid game getting 3100 gold in one back is pretty easy(sustain and higher mana).

I love building deadmans on Garen and Poppy as well, but Sunfire is a much better lane item. Build the deadmans after you finish either Cleaver or tri-force.
