Climbing is forcefully and unnecessarily brutal

I'd like to share my experience getting in and out of Gold 2 this season

The initial climb after succeeding Gold 3 promos wasn't too difficult, decent WR and good MMR got me to exactly 80LP in less than 10 games I think. I was earning 23LP per win and loosing about 16 per loss. So pretty good climbing potential. I win the next game at 80 lp and suddenly only get 19. Over the course of two victories my MMR fell enough to lose 4 points of LP per win, forcing me into another game before promos. Sadly I took a few losses and it ended up taking multiple games before getting into promos.

Of course I know my MMR didn't actually drop, Riot's system decided that despite having good MMR and winrate, it was not time for me to get into promos. The game forewent pre established expectations in order to make the climb more difficult.

Once I was in Gold 2 I tilted hard into a 4 game loss streak. The last two games I went from around 14LP, to 0, to demoted. Absolutely zero shield or insurance at 0lp, instant demotion. Again going against expectations to make a climb harder.

Now I'm sitting at 63 LP Gold 3. 20lp per win and still -16 per loss. I already know what will happen if I win my next two games.

I understand that my performance is affecting my games, and that my current struggle to climb is because I am not playing as well as I should. However, Riot themselves should not be a intentional factor in adding frustration to a player's climb. IT IS INFINITELY MORE DIFFICULT TO REMAIN COOL WHEN IT IS APPARENT THAT RIOT IS GOING OUT OF ITS OWN WAY TO ARTIFICIALLY MAKE YOUR CLIMB MORE DIFFICULT . Players already have to shovel through a lot of shit to climb, Riot games themselves should not be a part of that pile.

Yep, this sums it up pretty well

+1 for me

But I've also had the same issue as well. As a person who's MMR is definitely gold level, I'm only gaining 20LP and losing around 15. It really represents the struggle trying to climb, especially in gold and silver, especially when you know you have the potential to be way higher than you actually are, and the system holds you back even for winning it doesn't feel like you get enough LP.

I've definitely noticed too that MMR loss feels far more permanent than MMR gain. A 10 win streak probably earns you far less than a 5 game loss streak takes away, even though accomplishing the win streak would be far harder

Yeah same issues with LP gain for me this year, currently I am even +18 for a win and -18 for a loss. Feels bad.

The ranking system is not designed to do anything but force you to re-roll yet another account. New accounts mean more $$ for RIOT. League is not, nor ever was, a game of skill.

climbing is impossible iron --> plat. This game is an one big troll fiesta, decided by coin toss in champ selection.

To be fair, its 50/50 chance while tossing. Who is gonna get the trolls who fed/int/grief? enemy team or me?

If you are better than your mmr you will reliably climb. Elo boosters exist and people naturally climb as they improve or win relative to their competitors. This is a fact. And for the record, I think it's harder to stay under gold 2 than it is to stay over gold 2.

Nope. There's no manipulation. However with the introduction of additional tiers and removal of the 5th divisions means that people are much faster to hit their MMR ceiling and much more likely to be placed much closer to it. This just means you have to play less games to get the rank you are at, but means that you'll be "stuck" more often as you need to increase that MMR again.

I think part of the problem here is that if your skill is extremely above your rank, you'll get where you belong in no time. The amount of challenger players who've climbed from Iron back to rank 1 is testament to that.

On the other hand, if your skill is slightly above your rank, climbing is misery. Then you wind right back up in the situation where you lose games because of one teammate.

Imagine someone who has high bronze skills and got an unlikely placement in mid iron. Iron games are rotten. I don't have enough excrement and toxicity analogies to sufficiently convey how awful that situation is.

And so you've been playing far more than how much you should have. What a coincidence, uh :P

Yo wtf, just play draven. I get 35 lp a win, and skip after every promo. Its ez!
