Might as well switch it for a chainmail vest and boost the damage bounce back so it will actually do what its intended purpose is. Slowing the attack speed doesn't really help reapply wounds nor the passive. The damage on Thornmail is mediocre. Make it double down on what it is good at and get that slow off there.

y i liked old thornmail cause it was super cheap for what it provided...i will probly just opt for just bramble in most cases
The point isn't for the AD to kill themselves hitting you, it's to make you a less appealing target to lifesteal from. Not only do they take damage in return, their healing gets cut, AND they lose attack speed. It's a huge buff to tanks in general.
It seems backwards but it provides two things, Means you can attack more and use more skills vs them. Also it makes it so they gain less life back. (Cut in half and not as often). It seems weird but it seems like its better the way it is.
I see what you mean, but thornmail has a slightly new and better niche now.
Old: deter DPS
New: deter drain tank off high health tanks (via grievous wounds and AS speed slow). The bounce is prob there to maintain identity and to clear aggro'd minion easy for lane tanks that rush Bramble vest
