Forgettable Passives

Ya know. With the Immobile Mage update coming up, a lot of people have been talking about Zyra and one of the things they bring up often is her terrible passive, and while I agree that her passive is pretty bad, I have to give it credit for at least being a passive that you know is there. Something Riot really needs to do is go through a whole bunch of champions with boring passives or that have a lot of invisible or nonexistent power.

Here's a list of champs that need more memorable or at least more gameplay influencing passives.

Amumu I mean, at least it encourages you to auto-attack people but you never really notice that it's there and it doesn't really influence how you play Amumu Renekton Again, not very noticeable visually, though at least it influences his gameplay, making it so he can fight better in drawn out fights XinZhao All it is is free armor pen when you auto someone. Yes it interacts with his ult but his ult could read, "The last enemy Xin attacked is not knocked back" and it would still work the same. Also, it's once again not very memorable or visual. Zed For a champion so recent, it's surprising that Zed has passive like this. It doesn't influence his gameplay patterns aside from making last hitting easier for him and it's again a forgettable passive. Sejuani For a passive with so many good effects (Increased armor and slow resistance after damaging an enemy) I often forget about it. It has no visual indicator (At least that I know of) that it's active and it's trigger requirement is so easy to achieve that giving it one would make Sej's default look most of the time. Doesn't influence her gameplay at all. Shyvana Terrible. Might as well just give her increased base armor and mr and give her a throw away passive like "Shyvana deals 10% increased damage to Dragon". Talon Terrible. Could just increase the damage amp on his E and it would achieve the same effect. It doesn't influence his gameplay at all, is boring, Veigar I actually don't mind Veigar's passive but I'm placing him here as an example. Veigar's passive is boring and forgettable, it's just increased mana regen. However, it does serve a clear purpose which is to allow Veigar a way to keep up his mana pool for Q farming. Morgana Free spellvamp. The issue with this passive is more that it's attached to Morgana. If Swain had this passive then it would make sense since he's meant to wade into combat and deal consistent damage while sustaining through the damage he takes. Morgana may go into the enemy team when she ults but there's a reason Zhonya's is so core on her, most of her spells are used at the start of a fight before she takes damage, so having spellvamp usually just means she gets some health back when her ult ends. It's boring and forgettable. Ezreal Really forgettable as a passive, especially considering most Ezreals's just want to spam their spells at people. Fiddlesticks Terrible. Horrible. Amumu's passive at its lowest reduces MR by 15 and 25 at its highest while Fid's has a flat 10 MR reduction. It's boring, it doesn't change how he plays, it's forgettable, and it falls off like a rock. Fizz Might as well just give him more base armor, which just leaves him with the ability to move through units, on an assassin with two mobility abilities. Heimerdinger Boring. Heimer's turrets could have their own health regen and it wouldn't change anything and unless they someday turn him into a support the health regen won't have much effect given how damage scales. JarvanIV Increased damage when autoing an enemy. It doesn't change his gameplay at all and is just a boring "deal more damage to an enemy you haven't hit in a while". Kayle Armor and magic pen when hitting an enemy. No visual effect to let you know it's happening and not very interesting. Alistar The damage is so pitiful that the only time you notice this is when it makes you draw turret agro. Honestly, they should just combine his passive with his E and make it so he heals allies whenever he uses an ability (On an internal Cooldown of course) and give him a new E.

Now this isn't to say that some of these passives aren't powerful or that they aren't important for the champion they're attached to. A lot of them could just be represented better visually so you know what's going on. On the other hand, ones like Xin's or Fid's are just generic stat reductions, and ones like Morgana's don't do much for the kind of playstyle the champ is meant to do. And I don't want all the passives in the game to be mini-games either (I. Hate. Rocks!), I just think passives need to at least be things you're aware of when you're playing AS a champ.

Ezreal's passive actually gives his DPS a substantial and unignorable boost.

j4's passive is amazing for trading in lane, not so amazing for DPS.

Others I agree, but note that not every champ should have a passive where you do 10 clapping pushups to summon ShacloneTibbers that deals 3.1415926% max HP true damage per second over 8.3 seconds to the first enemy it autos or something.

I think the problem with Ezreal is just that he doesn't build a lot of attack speed (Usually just a Bork if the game goes on long enough) so you usually don't notice that the passive is in effect the way you do on someone like Jax, who builds quite a bit of attack speed.

I take issue with J4's passive for being visually lack luster. For the person playing J4, they may think about it, but you never really notice it when playing against him.

And as I said, I don't want all the passives to be mini-games, I just want them to feel like an integral part of a champion's kit or at least not be generic stats like Shyv's.

J4's passive has a special animation and sound effect, what else do you want?

You mention Zyra by name, and then you don't bring up Kog?

For shame.

As strong as it is (seriously, Kog's Innate is like a second Ult in terms of raw power), that silly thing is eating up a TON of Kog's power budget despite doing nothing to help him fill his niche (long range single target sustained damage).

Kog's passive isn't forgettable though. I'm bringing up passives that are boring or that you forget are even there.

And I will never bad mouth Kog's passive so long as Zyra's exists. Kog's is a thousand times better than Zyra's (Admittedly this is not that difficult) because it actually accomplishes something a lot of times. While you may not always kill someone with it, you'll usually at least HIT them or kill a minion. Zyra's is hard enough just to hit with, let alone kill someone.

surprisingly it actually matters.

It makes diving Kog much more risky, since even if he dies, he can trade 1 for 1 with you. Ordinarily trading 1 for 1 is bad, but Kog theoretically outscales anyone in terms of raw DPS and has a weak early game anyways, so being able to trade 1 for 1 early is amazing for the Kog player.

Meanwhile Zyra's passive is much harder to aim and even if she trades 1 for 1 it doesn't matter because she doesn't scale as hard as Kog. Her scaling is about average for a mage.

Yorick "Wow... I'm STILL forgotten even in something like this. Now that is sad."

Not forgotten.... just ignored.

Didn't feel like bringing up a champ that will be reworked.
