Garen finally has a higher win rate than Darius in (almost) every ELO.

That's right. At every ELO except Diamond+ (which translates to 98% of the player base), Garen's win rate has surpassed that of Darius'.

It is a somewhat marginal difference in win rate, but it finally defeats the long-standing notion that "Darius is just a better Garen". Over the past year, Riot has given Garen careful buffs that increase his skill expression and give him tools that make him more competitive, but without making him feast-or-famine or a "roll your face on the keyboard to shitstomp lower ELO" champion.

Speaking as a (former temporarily on-hold because Rhaast jungle is super fun and super strong) Darius main, I'm not even mad. I'm impressed. Riot managed to put a new-player-friendly resourceless juggernaut champion at a healthy balance level at every ELO without fundamentally changing his abilities. That is a balancing act I would never have expected to see pulled off. Well done, Riot.

Garen 9.4% play rate (almost everyone owns Garen) 51.4% win rate 6.5% ban rate

Darius 9.1% play rate (4800 ip champ) 49.6% win rate 46.5% ban rate

Garen - in 1000 games.. (played 94 times) (wins 48) (loses 46) (banned 65)

Darius in 1000 games.. (played 91 times) (wins 45) (loses 46) (banned 465)

they are very even, darius is 3 wins short of being exactly the same as garen... but that ban rate, holy no trouble to tell that people don't care for win rate they just don't want darius in the game

i honestly didn't expect such close numbers in W/L and play rate but i agree with op on that one, nice job making a free champ good..

now if only Ashe had the same win rate as her lane counterparts

Wow it's almost like garen has received a plethora of buffs and darius has received a plethora of nerfs within the past several months...

Turns out when you hard buff the "worse X" and hard nerf the "better X" they suddenly become equal
