How do you not KS as Nami?

This is something I've really been struggling with recently. I try to put as much damage as I can on the enemy laners while still protecting my carry, but my W could bounce, or my Q could hit at the wrong time or my auto isn't timed right with my ADCs and I end up getting the kill. I don't want to intentionally do it, and I really don't want to have to play champs like Janna to avoid doing that, so how should I play her differently to avoid KSing?

I don't think you should worry about "KSing" in the sense of kill stealing. Kills don't belong to anyone specific, the ADC included. Securing a kill is more important than worrying about getting a kill instead of a carry and possibly losing the kill all together. Besides, supports need gold too. We don't have the luxury of CSing (well actually CS doesn't belong to anyone either, so if you were so inclined to do so, you COULD, but that's a different discussion), so kill gold benefits us a lot when we do get them.

Something to keep in mind is that kills are just a means to an end. The goal of the game is to push down enough turrets until you can get an inhibitor, and then push down the nexus turrets / the nexus itself. It really doesn't matter who gets the kill as long as you're using the time you have while your enemy is down in an effective manner.

TL;DR: Don't worry about "Kill stealing" because there is no such thing. Kill securing is a good thing as long as you use the time after they're dead wisely.

Playing the vast majority of supports (including janna, who is actually quite aggressive when played well) is going to involve attacking the enemy in some way, so carries the 'risk' of getting the kill.

The idea is just pay attention to the situation. If it's a close fight where either side could win or they might get away, don't hold anything back, and sensible carries will understand it wasn't intentional and be glad for assist gold+the (usually) resulting cs/xp advantage. If the fight is essentially over and theres no chance the enemy will escape, it often makes strategic sense to stop attacking and funnel the gold into the carry who probably scales with it better (which is the reason they get the CS), but it's not it's a bad thing if you get it, it's just a less good thing.

tbh no one here can tell you how to not ks this way other then telling you don't cast ebb and flow on an enemy below 1/5 HP unless absolutely necessary, or don't cast it on yourself (unless your going to die) if they're below 1/8. you learn how not to from plain old trial and error. you'll adapt to the damage eventually.

in most cases though if theyre low HP, just E your ally so it applies the bonus damage and slow. but honestly a KS isn't as bad as it seems if it stopped them from potentially getting away.

the auto thing just happens to every champion sometimes, and its more likely to happen when you play janna due to the fact that her auto attacks deal bonus magic damage based on movespeed, and unlike nami's tidecallers blessing its a passive that's always on.

Standard advice is that you don't use W when your not under pressure, this will reduce the times you get a kill off it. For all else build a item 3041 This may seem counter intuitive because its a Flat AP item but its potentially the most cost effective AP item in the game and thus can help your adc and team more.

  1. You get free stats that turn into quicker burst from your first spell rotation, higher # on the Free movement speed for teammates, a better Slow from your E giving your adc more kite or better chase power especial cuz more MS from passive. Superior heals and bounce reduction changes making her W function increasingly as a superior AOE. all of this combined off 1 cost effective item allows for some nifty itemsitaion for your other slots and creates less situations where your under pressure to the point you even have to be worried about a KS because it should be a pretty one sided fight with your cc.

  2. If you do grab the kill, its more AP so you get to the situation in point 1 quicker. If you make a point to use the gold onto items that help your team as wellitem 3504 for example, point out that your spending the gold onto making the ADC stronger and will do your best to set them up for as many kills as you can and that your W might ks when you have to use it under pressure but youd rather keep them alive and farming then not.

You have to suck at being an adc to not understand that your support doing better makes it so that you end up doing better, there's a reason no one likes bad supports. (usually.... Some exceptions Brand just make them self do better when they do well. not inherently a bad thing for the team thou.)

if you're trying to NOT kill steal you're playing league wrong. you need that gold more than anyone else. how are you supposed to carry yourself to challenger if you dont have enough gold to buy all of your items? think about it. you're the only person on the team without dedicated income. you deserve those kills. your team should be feeding you the income.

Don't worry about a kill secure as support. Every time you get a kill, you give your ADC 150 assist gold and get them a lead in cs and exp. I find it to be totally stupid to ever not put out the maximum dps possible. This means constantly auto attacking and using spells on cooldown (within reason) in all-in fights. Anyone who "goes afk" trying to give their ADC a kill deserves to lose. The only time I would ever find it acceptable to give the ADC a kill that you could easily secure is if you know the enemy does not have flash, they are alone, and both you and your ADC are healthy while the enemy is near death.
