do people take gold runes?

so i take full gold runes on blitzcrank. with the thief mastery. and the coin item. first back. 1700 gold. seconds back. 2700 gold. close gold to my adc. i had to take armor reds tho.

by end game i had as much gold as the fed enemy jungler. and close gold overall to allies.

you can probably do that with ap poke mages without gold runes as their item gives them a lot more golf for poking

Not any more. Taking raw stats is generally more efficient.

Supports used to take Gold Generation runes back in season 3 when they had to rush Philosopher's Stone and Kage's Lucky Pick for additional gold generation, but they are no longer required after the changes to support items and passive gold generation in Season 4

with 3 gold per 10 quints and 9 gold per 10 seals and spell thiefs edge you would get 7.3 extra gold per 10 secs which is 43.8 gold per min

at 5 mins into game you would have an extra 219 gold at 10 mins into game you would have an extra 438 gold at 20 mins into game you would have an extra 876 gold at 40 mins into game you would have an extra 1752 gold

idk if its worth to have them or not but here's the math may be wrong if I'm retarded which is possible

hope this helps

well the coin item gives a lot of gold. i had over 1k from its other passive. meanwhile after laning phase its hard to get the typical melee item execute gold. and it doesn't give that much gold.

it can work if you are planning to go for the long game, but a lot of people would rather trade early game stats.

Personally I use runes to secure kills early game.

Any kills I get early will give me a ton of gold, and help snowball the lane where I can get EVEN more kills / gold.

So if you're playing the long con, yes sure. But you run the risk of being weaker in the early game and feeding, or just barely missing out on kills etc.

I personally play agressive early game, so I take non scaling flat combat runes (Ie armour, AD etc).

SHRUGS to each there own , i play agressive too but that 10 or 15 damage from runes isnt gonna break me as a support. but if i can out itemize you then i have the advantage

You know how many games i've won because of a single 1% crit rune?

Not that many, but enough so that I always take it. If that 1% crit can get me firstblood and snowball me from there.... imagine how much of a difference that 10-15 damage or defensive stats can do.

As a support its even more important. It could mean the difference between a lvl 2 double kill for your friendly, or for the enemy.

But as you said, to each his own. Have fun on the rift =)

YES , yes indeed. but in the amount of games i have played to get to my accumulative win total of 2500+ who is a support main... with the amount of damage you can get from masteries and the base damage on your damage abilities i find the extra lil bit of damage that it ends up not mattering if you play properly. i have found if im in a lane that is favorable to play "aggressively" that taking exposed weakness in the 1st tree allows for your allies ( adc /jungler) do 3 % more damage to enemies when they follow up your damage. and typically adcs run double edge sword getting 1.5% net gain in damage so that is an extra 4.5% damage the enemy will take from your adc if they follow up on any damage you do as a support.

i did have a lengthy argument yesterday about a poster who claims that he builds item 3089 on Soraka and he couldnt see the fallacy in how it isnt a gold efficient item on a support budget. but he is bronze 5 with a 37% win rate and 0 LP

i used to have such when i was new to the support class, but now i give more emphasis on my starting stats, which determine how well you start the game and set it from there on. Gold runes would be more of a secure measure, which ensures even if you set behind(they indirectly help for that), you are still getting that steady amount of gold. Its very close to the sentence that the better defense is to attack, in the case of gold runes, you choose the other-defending, which is kind of a looser mindset, but if you pick stats which directly help you in early game, you play with the mindset you are to win

You can get away with it on supports like Soraka and Janna if you know you're going to have a passive lane

Well, with Gold Runes and Masteries, plus a Support Item, it usually gives a solid Support item's worth of gold by end game so it can be pretty empowering if you are looking towards the end game.

Nope never saw the need between support items and bandit.
