Veigar skillset
I saw only now that Meddler opened a post about gameplay but i logged too late :P And now, since i am craving from information i want to start a discussion and ask to the community toughts about Veigar.
What do you think about him? What do you like, what do you hate and what would you do about him?
About my perspective first let me say it' s my favourite champion since i began to play and the one on which i spent many toughts, in particolar the thing that always put me off about him it' s his skillset and how it works: it' s full of skills that are played only chained together and dumped in few seconds, giving to him a lot of undertime for his cooldowns. I think the Q ( Baleful Strike ) is the most well-designed single target spam spell of all the game because it is a targeted skill that offers counterplay and decision making: while in lane you have to weight if you want to farm or if you want to poke, and on top of that if you really want to use it due to mana problems and the overall cost of a whole combo, while it also gives niche power as a single target spell that is very precise in teamfights for picking weak targets, and compared with the snowball passive allows him to have a great comeback in mid-late game even if he laned horribly ( and he usually does).
The other skills, however... Antimatter (W) is a great feat of skill and/or team cooperation to land without using the Event Orizon (E), that however is the most broken, counter-intuitive and anti-fun skill of his set; a cage that in practice becomes an istant stun that can affect the whole enemy team and that allows you to dump all the spells, hoping that the target has low enough health or it is a mage. And the ulti: while i think the E is the most annoying for me to play, i think also that the R is annoying for the targets because they go from 100 to 20 with a single spell of doom: it' s nice to risk to pick the right target, it' s nice to have Veigar that basically is a Corrupted Geomancer to drain power from the enemy for his own means, but as it is now it' s a bit too much, isn' t it?
I will not devle in Veigar' s lane problems like mana for combos, i think that is matter for balancing team.
I have my ideas about eventual changes to make, maybe with design faults but at least it' s a way to explore an eventual solution. The passive and Baleful Strike (Q) are perfect as they are i think: the first supports his kit that is reliant to heavy consumption and lenghty combos, while the Q offers value and decision making as i said. Antimatter (W) should be, in my opinion, more a team distruption skill than a concentrated nuke. Reducing his scaling ( not throwing numbers here, just design ) and increasing his area of effect might be a good idea, since it can then be used more effectively to get out-of-position targets while in lane and allows more pressure on the enemy team while in team fight; in order to reward comboing with allies and stuns in general the inner part of the cast should have higher damage/scaling in order to reward good aim and combos, but still lower than live. Event Orizon (E) needs some desperate tweaking. For example making it rise from the ground and not insta-placed, like thresh' s ulti, will give time to react to the enemy and still gives great CC on the target/enemy team paired with his other skills. Primordial Burst (R) has a great, great potential. This game could make a really good use of single targeted skills: compared to skillshots they can have some trades that are not inherent to execution but rather to decisions, all packed in a high-precision skill. The concepts:
- Removal of the enemy AP scale: i think it is good to have the feel that you use the enemy power/condition to your advantage but it should not be a raw numerical value
- allowscounterplay, trading of power and most fo all INTERACTION The idea i had in mind is to shorten his range but giving him the possibility to cast it from a greater range in the target has the health lower of a %. In this way he needs to peel/poke/collaborate with the team in order to ult, healers can counter his ult and if he wants to cast it on a high hp target he needs to get closer, and as such risking to get backfired.
Just my opinions, sry for the long post gotta drop a potato soon ^_^ EDIT: rewrote everything. i belive the main reason it has so many views and a downvote is because it' s damn lenghty?
