It's basically anime memes. I think 'senpai' means teacher or something like that in Japanese, and "notice me senpai" (notice me teacher) is a meme that's been around for ages. I can't really explain it, it's just a thing.

As for the "baka" thing, it means idiot in Japanese. In this context, it's used for someone who has feelings for another person, but is too shy to express them. So something like "It's not like I like you or anything, i-idiot..." It's another anime meme.

Senpai translates as master or sometimes teacher. I was just wondering if there was a specific show being referred to. I'm not fully initiated and looking for another show to watch.

It means a few different things from where you are but mostly in anime senpai is a upper class character and sensei is the teacher or school prezident. (ex: a softmore in high school would call a senior a senpai and a teacher sensei) [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Senpai translates roughly to a respectful (and somewhat affectionate) term for "older student."

There is a common trope romantic animes used to make in which the girl looks up to her "senpai" and tries to get him to notice her because she's head-over-heels in love with him. (I swear, most of these senpais are either stupid or really creepy) Hence "notice me senpai."

Before long, the Shen playerbase started the "Shenpai" rave, and I am now heading our Shenpai pilgrimage.
