Firstly catchers is derivative from a verb and doesn't sound good. Also it has some specific associations. Not only baseball. It feels more like "catching a thing" rather then "locking smth down or imprisoning". At least you didn't name them "lockers"... or "graspers"... or "snatchers"... or "fasteners". :)

"Grapplers" would be better but it has strong associatoins with sports. And it's more like Amumu playstyle. "Condemners" maybe?! But I feel it's bad. Also Vayne association.

What about professions? From real life or from fantasy. Like profession names from prisons or medieval themes. "Executioners"?

It's different. Amumu's playstyle doesn't rely on getting that catch, it's his followup that defines him. Them it's the catch; if it isn't a catch it usually ends in them in big trouble or doing nothing until the catch ability is back up.

Sly Riot put Thresh picture in article. So anyone reading "catchers" going to think: "Oh, yeh. That's Thresh. He throws hooks and catches stuff. Sounds reasonable." But look at whole roster: Bard Blitzcrank Ivern Morgana Rakan Thresh Zyra

Also. Really? Catchers? They intend to rename supports because it sounds unappealing and they name a subclass "catchers".

Look at the list then. Do any of those champs do anything really memorable other than the hype when they catch out an enemy? Their catching abilities cause a frenzy for both teams depending on the success of the catch.

Bard-- Hits ult --->go huddle around that champ Blitz-- Hit hook? Blow it up. Pulled an Amumu? "Lets be friends" Gtfo Ivern-- Hit Q? everyone piles in, especially if he pulls out Daisy for the followup Morg-- Hit Q? Same. Ults? Either she's ahead and lives or the enemy team piles Morg Rakan-- His whole kit except for his Q is built for the ability to catch people for his allies Thresh-- don't need to explain this one, everyone knows its Q then box Zyra-- when Zyra roots hit, you get chunked by her plants, then ulted. good timesQQ

If they don't hit their catching tool they usually wait around for the cd to come back up. That's what separates them from other champs with cc. That's why it makes sense, at least to me.
