The most frustrating thing about being a support main

StoryDuck··8 votes·1,096 views

Is when you win lane but lose game. It's really disheartening to know that no matter how well you play you can't make your carries stop being in the front line during a teamfight, being out of position, split pushing without wards, or not being around during teamfights in general. I've lost games where my ADC is 5/0/0 at 10 minutes and then we go out of laning phase and by 20 minutes they are 5/7/0. Even worse, I roam mid and help get them to 5/0/0 only to have the same problem. How 2 fed lanes lose the game is beyond me but that happens a lot as a support main.

I've been playing Tahm lately(I win more with him toplane than support, but irrelevant). I've found if you have a carry who repeatedly frontlines and dies first, it can sometimes be best to eat them right as/before the fight begins, and run them to the back and spit them as far away as you can.

They're still going to go charging back in, but by then the enemy has blown most of their burst, and is hopefully at lower health.

I love this idea. Time to buy Tahm now. :P

I also occasionally use it to do things like grab an ally who is trying to overstay(We just took their inhibitor turret, they all respawned already, Ahri is still AAing the inhib). Walk up, eat her, run away as fast as possible, flash over a wall if I have to, just get her stubborn butt out of there. You can flash/TP/Thresh Lantern/Kalista ult/Whatever with an Ally in your belly, and it can sometimes be used to get a stubborn ally as far away from their intended stupid idea as possible.

With great power comes great responsibility ^^

A solo top or a mid laner can win his lane and still lose the game you know ... The thing is that you can't rely on doing good in early game. Riot nerfed snowball... they made the game less rewarding for early out-plays. You can do more mistakes and still recover. If your ADC is 5/0/0 and somebody kills him and get a "shut down" he gets 500 golds which is a lot.

In my opinion if you want to win you have to confirm your lead in every moment of a game now : Win lane (2 - 10 min) Win early game (10 - 20 min) Win mid game ---> perhaps you can already end the game (20 - 40 min) Win late game ---> end the game (40 min + ) Also make sure to die the least possible amount of times when you are ahead. And take as many objectives as you can.

Then you obviously win unless you massively throw the game away. It has been like that since season 4 basically. It takes a lot of efforts to do so in fact, since you permanently have to confirm your lead. And you can only "lose" something when you are ahead. In season 3 you just had to get first blood and then snow ball, kill people over and over as you push for their objectives and win in 20 minutes... Back in the days, every mistake was a huge price to pay and having a lead was a big deal when you had to carry the game. The only bad part of season 3 was the fact that assassins were far too strong and the weight of early mistakes was to high. Most of these assassins were then nerfed to the groud in season 4. Yet the meta shifted toward a "mistake-friendly" season... Season 5 is a bit better than season 4 in some ways. Yet many players don't see or don't know how to win games when they are ahead now. A lot of mid laner, ADCs and top laners are clueless about how they can end a game. Even if some of them know, they sometimes have a hard time because they need the proper healp from their team to back things up.

Winning ain't easy u_u

When you play top or mid and win your lane you are the carry though, so you can control your decisions. A support can't control their carries' decisions though. Believe me, I have tried. Normally just get people angry so I just peel to the best of my abilities and try to keep them alive as best I can. There is only so much a support can do to keep the carry alive though. I've had games where I end 0/0/20+ with an 80% kill participation rate and still lose.

"A support can't control their carries' decisions though." No, but you can help mitigate them and lessen the impact of negative consequences - even preventing anyone on your team from going down.

I try my damn hardest that for sure. I've certainly made my share of amazing saves.

Right there with you, Jharr. : )

Oh man, there's been so many games where our lane is winning by a lot, and then somehow we lose. Pretty frustrating, if you ask me.

I hate getting hit with leaverbuster while afking in the bush as support. Kinda annoying.

Play an offensive support. I have so much more fun playing Malphite or Velkoz support than, say, Nami. And they honestly feel like they have so much more presnce too.

TahmKench Says otherwise.

He helps with 2 out of 4. Which is nice. I just bought him, I'm going to start getting some practice in with him in teambuilder now. Perhaps forceably spitting my ADC into the back line will help.

If you know how to keep yourself safe then play ap sp Soraka, build HP regenerate with out HP then item 3069 +item 3117 + item 2049 +item 3003 +...

You can carry your whole team by keep healing them, please your jungler by Soraka heal, I hardly lose my game unless my top and midlaner feed their opponents, otherwise your team always have advantage.

StoryDuck2 votes

Not always, Soraka is one of my main champions. I love playing her. I often build item 3041 and get it to 20 stacks. However, Soraka has a really hard time with assassins as they can pop their targets in under 1 second. This is also true for burst type damage dealers like Graves that can 100-0 their target. That being said, I think it is one of the best feelings when you get a Soraka to late game and are pulling off ults that heal your entire team for 800+ health and healing your carries for 800+ every 1.2 seconds.

how often do you play adc? its not always the adc fault if they get killed. especially if the enemy team decides they must be targetted, because they are fed. often there jsut isnt crap u can do about that as adc. split pushing can be totally reasonable also. this game is not all about kdr. if your team is behind then split pushing might help stall the game and give people time to catch up.

usually the biggest reason u lose game even when winning laning phase is because people dont think about objectives. especially the top laner or jungler or someone trying to be an amazing 'carry' who jsut does nothing but farm and roam, getting great kdr by picking off roaming supprots placing wards, but NEVER shows up when yr pushing for dragon or turret.

the adc needs teamwork. If your team is totally disorganized then really i think there isnt crap your adc can do other than split push, and accept lots of deaths.

many times ive come out of laning phase as adc with a 5/0/2 score or something. and then i see the same pattern over and over and over. its like clockwork. the enemy team will decide to team up...cause they are worried. our yi/fiora/yasua or whatever 'op' champ they are playing wanders randomly in the enemy jungle or something, and the enemy team wins 5v3s over and over and takes objectives. eventually yi tries a desperate backdoor attempt but it fails. enemy team wins. thats your problem right there support...its the guy trying to carry the team without thinking about objectives who is calling your adc a noob for dying 4 times trying to get objectives when the enemy outnumbered him, cause your 'good' player never even showed up.

in fact im thinking of a game right now where i was support leona and the adc was jsut very bad. had no skill. couldnt last hit, and died a couple times in laning phase when they didnt need to. but you know what they DID do? they stayed near me. and 2 other champs did also. Our awesome 'hypercarry' player even rage quit at some point...but because we stayed together as a team and ACTUALLY TOOK OBJECTIVES we totally won the game. they couldnt beat us on a 4 v 5 becuase many of their players were late to the teamfights, and with my cc everything was just easy. it doesnt amtter how good or bad the players are at the end of the day it becomes a team game and about objectives.

I hear ya. Lately I've had the least amount of deaths in most of my games as the support. My carry turns into enemy team food because they don't want to learn the art of positioning. I can't really figure out how to stop the spiraling as a support.

It's really difficult to carry as a support. I can do it in top lane easy, but if you're last pick or someone can't play support well, then it's kind of all your left with. It's super depressing because League punishes you as if you also fed, so what's the point? I think a big reason last pick is always stuck with support is because how well you do depends on how well your team does more than any other role. If they start to feed, then it's as if you are feeding as well.

I think I'm going to save for Tahm Kench now though. I cannot express how many times the squishy carry jumps into the front line, and goes poof in a second. It would be so useful to eat them up and spit them out as far away as I can.
