PSA: If your 6 kills to 26 deaths and 8 towers down 20 minutes in it time to give up.

I'll keep playing but at that point it isn't fun. You voting no doesn't give you any experience. There isn't any throw coming your way, they are 2 items ahead now and 3+ levels. The game is no longer worth anything, they could throw 3 times and still be ahead. Just vote yes and move on to the next game. All you are doing is making people feel worthless and lame. You are making them suffer.

the point here is that. while its theoratically possible to win. you will get more LP by surrendering and playing a new game . on average.

That depends on whether you have the time to play another match. If you don't, then your best chance is to not surrender and instead try to salvage the match.

nice table2 votes

this only applies when you are winning more games than losing on average :^)

Leetri3 votes

Someone did the math on this, and that's only true if you win a lot more than you lose. If you're just around 50% or below you gain more LP by continuing playing. I believe it was on the subreddit a couple of weeks ago, I have no clue how to find it now though.

Silverjust2 votes

that is only the case if you have a high winrate

Crimzyn15 votes

Maybe you are losing so bad because people are playing new champs. They might be learning mechanics or new roles. I vote NO every time if I am learning a new champ because thats the only way I will get better.

HaIlMonitor52 votes

Being 0/9 doesnt really teach you how to play a champ when the enemy tank 1 shots your. That is what he is getting at I think.

StoryDuck24 votes

Exactly. The global gold and lead at this point is so absurd it isn't even a game anymore. I don't give up easy but you can't just ignore the reality of overwhelming numerical advantage when your opponents have 3+ levels on ya and a full item ahead.

The Vilemaw Icon8 votes

When the game gets out of hand like that I greatly prefer just moving on to a fresh game where I can try again.

Crimzyn5 votes

I disagree actually. I just sadly played TOP lane Fiora, and i have only played her maybe 3 other times and very I suck both in top lane and with her. I did terrible! I seriously was 0/9/0 it was very embarrassing. But you know what? I started to come back and learned limitations and the match up I was playing so now I know or at least "should" know when I can go in and when I need to play more safe. My team was awesome, didnt rage on me at all and we won!

StoryDuck13 votes

How many towers/inhibs were you down when you were 0/9? One lane losing is a situation that can be worked with. 8 towers down though? there are only 3 outer 3 inner and that leaves 2 inhibs. 8 towers is a LOT of global gold. It is practically a full item for each member of the team. To say nothing of being 6/26. The gold difference was insane. I don't give up just because I lose lane or someone else does. I give up when it really is hopeless.

KoggyStyle3 votes

as long as no ones flaming/toxic ill surrender but if they are.... well then they are going to suffer.

Doctor Jarvis12 votes

I feel like people are missing the point. No game is unwinnable. Through hard work and perseverance, any game can be turned around. That said, there are lots of good reasons to not want to claw your way through the rest of the game. Don't be a "never surrender" douchebag. Don't be a "ff@20" douchebag. Sometimes people want to quit. Sometimes they don't. Differences in opinion happen.

Hydrawolf2 votes

My friends and I say something similar about surrendering unless we are really stomped: "Not every game can be won, but every game can be thrown." I know I've lost games, where our team won every lane, simply because the enemy defended well and grouped together better.

AgeOfTheMage2 votes

or they get cocky af and get themselves killed, i've seen it happen.

Vizulix8 votes

It's all about attitude. As long as ur team has a good attitude a comeback is possible.

HaIlMonitor7 votes

Im just not a fan of waiting until 45+ to see if we can catch a break :p

StoryDuck12 votes

I wish that was so, but reality is some games are not winable. Two inhibs at 20 mintues is one of those cases. Perhaps if we had some towers of our own but 8 towers down is too much global gold for the enemy. Perhaps if only one inhib fell and we held the second to buy time. Two though? We couldn't even leave base they had free reign to get baron and just win at that point.

Automated Riven6 votes

Idk man. I get that the chances of winning are very slim but there are hundreds of games every day where the enemy throws a lead like that allowing themselfs to get caught out and having the enemy team rush baron and towers gaining them the precious levels and buying time for them to recover.

yes I know that hundreds of games a day is in no way verifiable but with how often it happends to me I can safely assume that it happends for others as well

TheSingularity2 votes

Even if they were to throw or didn't know how to close out a game.

There'd be no satisfaction, hell even disatisfaction. We didn't earn the win, it was given to us on a silver platter by stupid players who either threw or were clueless in closing out games. I'm dissatisfied with a win that takes 50min of suffering and stalling. The way season 4 games were played. Long, boring and with a touch of uselessness until you FINALLY catch up (if at all)

Automated Riven9 votes

Thats your own fault. I find that winning in the face of all odds stacked against me to be very satisfying. but I could be wrong here.

Votable Jester5 votes

Long comeback games are the best imo. Though I'm probably biased because I'm better at playing the mid and late game than the early/laning phase.

Vizulix2 votes

In Bronze V they are. A game ain't over until your Nexus is dead, people don't prioritize ending the game over baron and throws are common. Also team work is shit since most bronze players have a proud attitude and refuse to listen to a guy trying to lead the team.

dakota saturn5 votes

The score and numbers don't matter nearly as much as the team's attitude. Even when behind, if people are still actually trying, no one is being toxic, then your team has a decent chance unless you're like 3 inhibs down.

On the other hand, the team can be 13 to their 15, only down a few towers, but if the toxic chat starts, "OMG Y U THERE?!?!?!? PING PING PING "?" "?" "?" * PING PING PING * THIS TEAM SUCK NOOB SSIBAL SUCK OMG OMG", then you're probably going to lose. Nobody is going to bother trying to help each other, and will in fact purposely try to get others killed so they can PROVE how much the other person 'sucks'.

We can even be ahead, but if my team starts acting like toddlers, I'm putting everyone on mute and splitting solo the rest of the game, if I don't just afk from all the trolling and unhelpfulness.

Legit that was score at 20 minutes on one game. Two players kept saying no. We were down 2 inhibs at a bit past 20 minutes, still voted no. I mean, I kept playing but there was nothing I could do. We had 0 towers and only 6 kills to their 26. Hell, even I have hope when behind but two inhibs and 8 towers at 20? That's a tall order even for TSM.

Automated Riven4 votes

put tsm against the team that you were playing against and they would probably destroy them. You underestimate what playing better does.

StoryDuck1 votes

lol more pretty words. You make a statement claiming they would never be in the situation (which is true) but ignore the reality that this game happened. That we were 20 kills, 8 towers, 2 inhibs down at 20 minutes. You put TSM in that situation and even they wouldn't be able to pull themselves out. You also assume the enemy team will throw, I'm plat 4 so we are not talking bronze players that miss 50% of their skills, build triforce on soraka, or lack complete map awareness. They are not going to throw such a massive lead.

Automated Riven3 votes

I am sorry. I failed miserably at what i meant to convey there.

I should have said that if at the 20 minute mark of that game you had swapped out the 5 members of your team with the 5 members of TSM then TSM would have wrecked the rest of the game.

If you dont believe me here is some context. [(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM99TE63og8&t=11s)]

Aeszarck5 votes

I'm just going to say that people can do that they want. If they want some experience in playing from behind, then that's their right to get that experience. If they want some IP for a longer match, then that's their right. Your team might be really good in the late game and be able to actually capitalize off of the enemy team's throw if they've been keeping up in cs. People also disconnect. It's rare, but an enemy team member or two could leave. (Maybe they're duo queueing and there's a storm in the area?) Boom, there's your chance to get back in the game. There are also those tragic stories of the people who lose games because their team jokingly starts a surrender vote when massively ahead and people press yes. You could be the winner in this situation if it happened after you decided to stick it out. Another possible situation: Someone on the enemy team gets tilted based on something that was said and starts intentionally feeding. There's a huge chance for you to get back in the game. One last example: Your teammate was playing with terrible lag the whole match and it just cleared up. If your teammate is good enough, he or she might be able to swing the game in your favor.

No game is lost until it is truly lost. You have every right to start a surrender vote and others have every right to vote yes or no depending on how they feel.

Not xPeke5 votes

I disagree I'm sorry.

You aren't taking into account several factors that may give someone a reason not to surrender.

  • A player might not have time for another game and is trying to squeeze as much gameplay time as possible before he has to turn League off.
  • A player might be trying out a new champion and no matter how far behind they are, he'd still like the experience he can gain mechanically by keeping the game going. Which might also avoid HAVING/BEING FORCED to play that same champion the next game if he played a decent amount of minutes to satisfy him in that game.
  • A player might refuse to FF when the players initiating the Surrender Vote are being extremely toxic and childish. That player can proceed to mute those players and hold them hostage in their own toxic game as punishment.
  • And games CAN be thrown, maybe not the higher Elo you go, but the more you go down, you'll notice that throwing no matter how big the lead, is VERY common.

I can go on really but what's the point really? And I can actually list more reasons for not surrendering by the way. You're probably just going to ignore the valid reasons I've shared, and you and everyone else on here will downvote this to the abyss like every other reply defending the refusal to surrender.

Ultimately there is a vote in place for a reason. If someone refuses to surrender deal with it. Go live in North Korea if you get butthurt with democracy not going your way. This huge rant and circlejerk of salty people downvoting anyone disagreeing with this is pretty pathetic.

EDIT: and also the distinction between surrendering a normal or a ranked game should be done.

Karfuss4 votes

You lose 100% of the matches you forfeit.

Jo0o4 votes

There's no good rule for when it is or is not appropriate to surrender.

Last night, I played a losing game. Every lane got beat to an extent, and they got several towers on us. It wasn't quite 6-26 at 20 minutes, but it was probably about 12-26 at that point.

The mid/top duo attempted to surrender, and when the other three of us voted no, they AFKed. But the enemy was sloppy and their team comp was bad (no tanks), so were actually able to 3v5 ace them on our Nexus to halt the bleeding. We were poised to continue winning team fights and stage a comeback. Too bad our mid and top were AFK by that point. With zero Nexus towers remaining, the enemy team simply suicided in to finish off our Nexus to win. With a full team of 5, I think we had a decent chance of holding out.

League is a game where if you score an ace after the ~30+ minute mark, you're going to gain some serious objectives. Hell, at a certain point, an ace means you simply win the game, even if they still have half their towers up. So unless the enemy is objectively impossible to answer, a surrender is kinda just laziness.

Yes, for you.

and two others.

It always give.

Have fun dying in 0.1 seconds to the tank with two item lead. I hope you learn a lot.

TL;DR Nobody cares that you want to play, we don't want and we are more important, don't hurt our feelings and press Yes.

Lol, never said I was more important (nice trolling though). I just know how to face reality. When everyone on enemy team is 1-2 items ahead and 3+ levels up and you have 2 inhibs down...yeah its time to call it. Some games just can't be won. This isn't about any individual and you can troll all day trying to make me out to be the bad guy but the reality is: some games just can't be won.

Automated Riven11 votes

{quoted} Have fun dying in 0.1 seconds to the tank with two item lead. I hope you learn a lot.

People would probably be more likely to take you seriously if you did not make up stupid exaggerations like this, (which by the way only make you look salty and stupid.)

StoryDuck5 votes

Fine, then. It was a Darius top this game very fed. Was 1v3ing at 20 minutes. What do you learn continuing here? Personally I think it is already absurd to see such a lead and not vote yes to surrender but whatever. I can just give facts.

Automated Riven5 votes

You can practice mechanics such as kiting. dodging skillshots. focus on where good places are to ward to give you the vision you need. A super fed darius still doesnt do anything if he gets kited. even if you dont feel like you can learn anything there are things that you can work on if you just look for them.

Also darius is not a tank.

StoryDuck6 votes

Wow, you're just gonna pick on every little thing I say huh? Well, I can't ever win that fight. You will always be able to twist anything I say into a negative (you'll probably pick on something here too). If you enjoy games that are 8 towers down and 20 kills behind and two inhibs destroyed at 20 minute....well more power to you. As for myself, I'm not a masochist. I don't enjoy a painfully drawn out death fests of a game where anything I do is meaningless. They have the surrender vote for a reason; when you know the game is over. Honestly, why you would want to stay in a game like that is a complete mystery to me. You can say crap like you can learn kiting, dodging, and warding but you're just saying pretty things without any consideration to the state of reality. It's what politicians do everyday you might have a good future as one.

You're assuming that Darius is in 1v3 situations in a vacuum. You don't consider he fact that I wasn't even involved in the 1v3 because I was too busy helping to hold mid so we didn't lose a second inhib so your learning is made moot because I wasn't there and was working on a different objective. As it was it bought us a few extra seconds because we cleared the wave but not much to do when you know no back up is coming so next wave they took it anyway and it was then I wanted the surrender. Not when the first inhib went down, not when we were 6 towers down instead of 8, not when we were 15 kills down, it was when the second inhib went down because I knew that meant we were stuck in base with nothing to do.

Automated Riven3 votes

I am not attempting to pick apart every word you say. Nor am I trying to flame you for not enjoying a lost game, or wanting to surrender. I have recently been attempting to remember to press the surrender vote with yes for teammates who are simply not enjoying the game (because other people matter too) I am simply pointing out that some people (like me) have a different view on the subject. My first comment was complete annoyance at what you had posted which was obviously false. (I understand the frustration of a fed darius going 1v3 and getting the triple.) And yes, there are some games which are unwinnable.

I was not trying to call your assessment into question. I was simply answering your question

What do you learn continuing here?

And i stand by my statement. You can practice many things in a losing game (with even less risk because the game is already lost) that you cant just practice in a custom game.

StoryDuck3 votes

Also darius is not a tank.

Seems like picking apart little things I said but I guess I'm just imagining it. As to learning...no, you don't learn anything in a game like I had and even if you could you wouldn't learn much and it would still be more beneficial to get to the next game. You can learn things in a losing game and most games this is true but ones like I had you do not learn anything.

So let me just ask a question, at what point do you consider a game over? I have pretty damn high standards but apparently 8 towers, 20 kills, 2 inhibs is not a game over for you. So when do you select yes for surrender?

For me it's grossly behind and double inhibs which might happen once in 100 games. I never felt that was unreasonable but apparently people here think its not an acceptable time to surrender. If nothing is acceptable then why bother having a surrender button? Why are you not trying to get riot to remove it?

Off Meta Evan4 votes

At that point you could just pop into the practice tool and get the same effect. You're dragging other people into a pointless game for something that could be achieved via practice tool.

Automated Riven2 votes

not sure how you practice kiting against immoble practice dummys. or skillshot dodging. expecially considering that bots are super predictable and will way more likely run away from you then run towards you. ...

Off Meta Evan2 votes

You could practice auto moving, which is, in my opinion the most core mechanic on any ADC. As for dodging skill shots, honestly that depends more on the individual and is more about reading your opponent rather than actually dodging them. Because unless you're some Uber mobile champion, a lot of champions do not have the mobility in the early game to dodge skillshots they didn't anticipate.

Automated Riven2 votes

That is actually a valid counter point. I stand corrected.

I would just afk. Problem solved. I don't mind the 20 minute waits.
