Unpopular opinion:Climbing is practically pointless in soloquo

So i had a realization... you go up in rank, your team is now of that rank, your opponents are now of that rank

when all works properly you're no better off than before. Since your placement is based mostly off of your winrate.

Honestly I can't for the life of me see an actual reason to climb other than for a skin that goes to a champ that you realistically don't play that often, because your normative champ pool is probably 1-7 champions, of which you probably only play 1 to 4 regularly....so the likelyhood that you are gonna have one of your champs get that skin is extremely low.

so why get better? so you can do better in games? Well that doesn't do anything because you should be doing as well as your team if you're placed correctly so you're going to be doing relatively as well as before, only you're a bit more knowledgable.

did you not have fun when you didn't know how bad you were? I had a lot of fun in b5, actually it was the most fun i ever had in ranked. so many strange things all around me. full ap nasus mid played seriously... things were odd but great

no matter what rank you are, you will still sometimes be the biggest reason your team loses, and you will sometimes be the biggest reason your team wins.

No matter what rank you are, you will still occasionally run into someone with an attitude problem,

the game doesn't get better as you get better, it doesn't actually become more intricate. The more you learn about this game the shallower it becomes. the more flaws in the system you have the potential to notice

this game is fun, but only if you take it for what it is. otherwise you just get all self concious, worry about a missclick, rage at a bad support, do whatever it is you do. Why the fuck play a game you're not happy to play regardless of winning or losing?

Now to add on to this and be clear: it makes sense if you and your friends all want to get on the same level of play, maybe your bff is gold and you're bronze so you want to at least not be the dude who tanks his teams when you duo. I'm speaking mostly of the solo experience.

Ranked is supposed to be a way to challenge yourself and see how good at the game you are, and have reference for self improvement.

Why try in life?

Your just going to die and none of it matters... so who give a shit if you were a doctor if you and a homeless man will inhabit the same ground.

You try because once you stop bettering yourself you might as well stop existing.

Because you yield a higher quality of life from a higher quality of performance in life, this doesn't translate to league of legends

yeah it's a false dichotomy

You try because once you stop bettering yourself you might as well stop existing.

Bettering yourself in real ways sure, in league there is no practical reason for being better at the game

I thought the point was to have fun, if you aren't then maybe you should take a break. If playing a game (That you are presumably not being paid for) is feeling like a job, then don't play. If you really feel that way, you won't miss it.

Personally I find myself not liking the direction the game is going in, and I am not sure I will play for a while. I used to just have fun playing aram any time I had free time, but even that doesn't feel fun to me anymore with how things have changed.

I used to play to see how good I could do solo in a match, but my rank and my overall skill meant nothing due to placement in mmr being pretty important

but they did kinda make solo gaming... meaningless

Climbing isn't active as much as the system putting you at the rank you belong. As you naturally get better, mmr will take some time to adjust to that new rank.

That being said, climbing shouldn't be something you worry about as much as it is something that will happen as long as you improve.
