so if we look at ekkos nerfs.

and the buffs he gots. its quite easy to notice that the nerfs overshadow the buffs. look at the buffs

V6.6 Z-Drive Resonance.png Z-Drive Resonance Bonus movement speed increased to 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% from 40 / 50 / 60 / 80%. Phase Dive.png Phase Dive Cooldown reduced to 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 / 7 seconds from 13 / 11.5 / 10 / 8.5 / 7. V6.3 Timewinder.png Timewinder Cooldown reduced to 9 / 8.5 / 8 / 7.5 / 7 seconds from 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 / 7.

now look at the nerfs

V6.8 Parallel Convergence.png Parallel Convergence Damage reduced to 3% of target's missing health from 5. AP ratio increased to (+ 3% per 100 AP) from 2 per 100. NEW EFFECT: Minimum 15 damage to minions and monsters. Phase Dive.png Phase Dive Damage reduced to 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 from 50 / 80 / 110 / 140 / 170. AP ratio increased to (+ 40% AP) from (+ 20% AP)

lets look at whats on the pbe.

Ekko Z-Drive Resonance (Passive) 30/40/50/60% slow for 2-3s removed.

Timewinder (Q): Outgoing damage reduced to 40/55/70/85/100 (+.2 AP) from 60/75/90/105/120 (+.1 AP) Chronobreak (R): Base damage lowered to 150/300/450 from 200/350/500 AP ratio increased to 1.5 from 1.3

if you see. the buffs he got were not much at all. they were few early game cooldowns and thats about it. I don't think the buffs made him strong rather than early game matters more for pro players and he got attention and guess what hes meta again.

personally i used to play tank ekko before the buffs and i didn't even know about the tankko thing that was going on when he first came out because i wasn't there for his release.

what do you think? why is tank ekko popular? is it because of stickiness or damage?

also what will you build on him after the nerfs

The nerfs are bigger than the buffs because he's overpowered at the moment. Riot has given him some tradeoffs here, but yeah, the point is not to rearrange his stats so he's still north of a 54% winrate.

volibear has had 54-56% winrate for about 5 months now. am not tank ekko doesn't need a nerf. but don't nerf him and make it useless. just let him be at 50% winrate-ish.

Volibear totally needs a nerf, and I say that even with him as my main. Any champ that's up to the 54% level and gets regular play is pretty questionable. Hopefully this round of nerfs will bring Ekko down to 51-52 and Riot will just let him be there.

He doesn't actually need a nerf, and here's why. His stength at the moment is a matter of timing in the meta. People are trading away ignite for teleport in mid lane, so there's less ignites to counter Voli's passive, and he's being allowed to make these nasty bait plays on a regular basis. If you were to nerf him, it could make him underwhelming if the teleport mids were dropped. You gotta look for all the possible culprits before you can really say "Ok this champion itself is OP", sometimes it's just an item or the meta. Usually it's some piece of broken ass garbage item. Like 90% of the time.

what? no its not just about his passive. he has the tanky while doing too much damage syndrome. I mean he doesn't have great utility. a slow and a knockback. not bad. but not too much but hes too strong at the moment

He doesn't have a dash or a way to dive the backline, something highly favored in the meta atm, I don't actually play Voli so I'm not sure where his success is coming from but I main ADC and mid secondary and I've never thought of Voli as being OP, as he's fairly kiteable. And when you're squishy all damage is too much damage. I don't think he's TOO strong, just strong. TOO strong is Lucian, who is so blatantly overbearing that if he's open you MUST pick him or your opponent will and you will suffer his wrath, leaving no room for variety. People are kinda treating Zed and Malzahar like this too (more so of fear of what they've heard than what they know, Lucian is just factually fucked up).

How about since they buffed all his ap ratios, you maybe try, oh, I don't know, ap ekko?

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

i do ap ekko too. the problem is that he doesn't really counter than many mid laners and at the same time hes countered by a lot of them.

at the same time hes strong against tanky immobile top laners. thats why people play him tank top.

he just has hard time dealing with most mid laners.

there isn't much reason to play ekko when you can play per say fizz that can use his ult to assassinate someone. and just as if not slippier than ekko. and easier to play

Joman7671 votes

Alright just saying though that most of those are straight buffs to ap ekko mid to late game. They want tank ekko to die out, obviously.

its not just numbers. its what the champion is. why is diana strong while being melee. her base stats are a lot higher than ekko. and her shield is spammable and reliable. also fizz has more damage and mobile. also both of them have ults that can target opponents. being an assassin is all about deleting a carry. ekko is really poor at that unless he lands a stun. or your just bad enough to stay near his shadow when he ults.

also most mid lanrs still build ekko as a tank.

You do realize that Ekko is intended to dump CC on a target to prevent escape and then kill them right? His direct burst and nukes are dependent on his CC hitting.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

doesn't work that well when the enemy adc can 3 shot you. your melee. good luck dumping cc on them one vayne or tristana or sivir literally kills you with 3 autos.. u die before getting in range my friend.

What are you talking about? Ekko has a slow grenade, a stasis field, a dash/warp, and a self heal/relocation. If you land his slows, they can't position easily. If you land your stasis field, dash into it, you can then warp to a stunned target, and unload. An assassin is NEVER about taking on primary targets head on where they can respond to you. You don't just barrel down bot lane into their ADC and expect to kill them easily. Like any assassin, you have to plan and position for kill when roaming and in team fights.

You forgot that if you proc the 3 rings you get a speed boost. Yeah he's pretty sticky. This isn't even hard to do, Q forward and if the reverse hits them, you can E from a mile away, hit them, proc the rings, speed boost to chase them down while stacking rings for ANOTHER speed boost. And as ADCs rarely have on demand cc, your ult will always be ready to either one shot nuke the hell out of that ADC, or pull you out of the situation entirely and heal you, and they're still at half health, and if they stay you could reengage and boom. Also 3 attacks from an ADC to kill an Ekko? Even AP that is a huge exaggeration. They would have to be fed or this is really late game.

Oleandervine1 votes

He's popular because he's sticky, he can lock down opponents, tanks take a while to kill, AND his damage is high enough without dedicated damage items to destroy them. This is a bad combination for the game because assassins with high utility are not supposed to be hard to kill. He's incredibly safe and that's exactly why he's getting nerfs to push him away from tank builds.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

well that passive slow removal is a pretty big nerf. for both ap ekko and tank ekko. idk why didn't they make it scale off ap so that tank ekko suffers while ap ekko doesn't suffer from it.

WeedTits1 votes

The reason he's had more nerfs than buffs is because release Ekko was broke as shit, if you want a simple answer. The ult pentas were many that day. He's been a competitive level jungler, top laner, and occasionally mid laner, and is still seeing current success top. He is a strange case though, mostly created as a "fighter/assassin" and consistently played as a tank instead...but this isn't really a bad thing, is it? Riot created the champion, but the players made him who he was, a tanky backline diver with a panic button to pull you out if the engage doesn't go well (which some say is OP, but that's a different thing entirely).

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

well according to that. he will get more ult pentas now because of the ap ekko buffs

People watch for his ghost now, they didn't on release. It was nasty. Also I haven't seen anyone play AP Ekko mid in a very long time, but it probably works.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

oh i see. well thats pretty dumb that u couldn't see his ghost. at the same time it adds too much counterplay to ap ekko since his most powerful spell is dodgeable 99.99% of the time if you have a brain.

its too binary. you can't make it invisible. but at the same time if u make it visible its kinda useless.
