Rito you keep on recycling mechanics and thats not ok.

3 hit proc and mobility seems to be your go to if you don't know what else to give a champion. We want original champions not champions that have abilities that are clones of other champion abilities.

if they make an "original" champion everyone would just bitch and moan about them due to them being either broken or weak. If they are weak and they get a slight buff everyone will bitch and moan until they once again become weak and if they are broken and get nerfed to worthlessness then everyone will stop bitching about them.

If they release a champion with re-used mechanics then everyone bitch and moan because it's not original but we already know what will happen when they release an "original" champion.

Everyone will bitch and moan regardless of whether the champion has an original kit or not, don't kid yourself

Yeah, I mean honestly, you know who was really unique? Bard ... and people complain because he has pure utility and almost no damage. Well, damage isn't unique. Utility can be more unique.

MarshallBananna7 votes

to be fair, the problem with bard is no the novelty, its that he has a really awkward kit.

Kitten of Evil13 votes

One man's awkward is another man's unique. After all, awkward implies "not played like a normal support would be" or somehow strange.

MarshallBananna15 votes

no, i meant objectively awkward. His kit is weird, depends on variables you cannot properly control or predict, his abilities have delays, and kinda is kinda High risk, low reward, massive fuckup potential.

His passive encourages you to leave lane, losing gold, possibly exp, and puts your laner in danger for an arguably small reward. His Q requires very specific conditions and positioning to work properly, which often times you have no control over. Even when the ideal situation presents itself, the projectile speed is relatively slow, which doesn't help. His W drops off dramatically late game because it requires time to charge up. It's very awkward to use late game, near useless in a teamfight, and stops being a delayed heal spell becomes a weak MS buff with a small health attached. His E allows the enemy to pass through, making it a questionable escape tool. Still, it's his most memorable and cool ability. His R is... well... from my experience, the Good-ult-to-Bad-ult ratio i've seen is roughly 3:5. The fuckup potential is enormous and the delay makes it useless as a reaction spell.

Kitten of Evil7 votes

Those are all unique things, and ones that can be mitigated if the Bard player knows what he's doing.

Q's linear double-stun on two champions is amazing, so it should require some set-up. Even if you don't hit an enemy behind it, it does a decent chunk of damage and slow. W should just be leveled up last because you're right, it's just an MS boost end-game. Underwhelming but a unique mechanic that can help your jungler or mid sustain early. E is way better than people realize, because you WILL come out right in front of a wall. If enemies chase, so will they, which means your Q will hit and stun one or two of them. The ult is wonky because of the delayed travel time, but can be used to: dive turrets (by putting them in stasis), stall dragon or baron, catch enemies, save ignited allies.

A good Bard will only roam when it is safe for him (and his ADC) to do so. Chimes last for 10 minutes, and they (generally) spawn in the quadrant of the map you're in. So you'll have a chance to grab them after a gank, after a tower is taken down, or if bot lane is MIA.

The problem is he needs good communication to pull off.

Bard No dmg? Bitch please, meeps hit like a truck. Bard was the last well designed champion.

Kitten of Evil6 votes

Believe me, I know. I main Bard. Meeps are great, and Q is incredibly satisfying to land, but I'm usually 4th on my team in terms of damage dealt. Meeps hit hard but you have 3 of them, maybe 4 in a normal teamfight.

Tails Doll1 votes

It's still really fun to watch those suicide bombers go all BOOM on squishies :D

Kitten of Evil1 votes

It's a bit less fun when a newly-spawned Meep ends up stealing the kill from your ADC though haha. Still, people I've played with tend to be good sports about that sort of thing.

Actually every one of those champs have been bitched about since release.

Ekko was literally called pentakill cancer.

Morde was laughed at and insulted from pbe all the way to live, and then bitched about and complained about ever since.

There isn't a single original champ design in this game that hasn't been complained about.

I've just come to the conclusion that Rito should just ignore the forums when it comes to champion design.

They already do that for the reasons you listed.

The players who think they do listen simply reinforce the reason why Riot just doesn't come here.

Boards are literally one perpetual /v/ thread about league. An enormous amount of garbage and shitposting with some gems mixed in.

As one of the most creative champion designers can certainly tell you.

Original champions are usually loved and hated at the same time by different people. The haters are more likely to talk about it because they're not busy playing.

This. Ignore all but seriously upvoted ideas and new mechanics in custom made kits. Besides those, ignore us.

SeductiveGrandpa1 votes

I see what you mean, but even some upvoted ideas are terrible, I mean remember Rae? Sure the concept was great and well thought out but the character put into action was Vi if she were a pair of boots that could knock you up into the sky multiple times. I feel we should just let Rito do more things on their own rather then complain about EVERY LITTLE NEW CHAMPION KIT JSAFSAMFSA. I mean, yesterday was like "God this new champ is gonna suck/ this r is so goddamn useless" and now I'm watching some plays where people have used this R to do crazy things, so what its a 3-hit passive? The r is innovative, the champion is beautiful and its kit seems well done. I need to go to one of my friends and rub it in his face that he was wrong that its useless. I mean, they're treating her like Bard with the whole "Wow troll/useless r" shit. And then shes being compared to kalista when she cant throw 100 spears into your chest and activate them to blow you into a million freakin pieces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym0YzC6hNXQ

that's what they have dome why do you think we don't see any red posts in balance that much because its either somethings op or 2 strng there's a ton of reds in joke threads though so we know they can see the threads but they don't want more cancer than they already have contracted by looking at some threads

Ekko is not fine

even if his q is easy to dodge, its an excellent farming tool and ensures that he never misses cs, his w is a massive shield/stun that is easier to land than everyone makes it out to be, his e is a dash WITH a blink auto attack attached to it, and his ult is one of two things. either it's "oh theres 2 people next to my ult? dead." or it's "oh did i just eat a shit ton of harass and get to 2%? better mash r, leave lane, and come back with it up 20 seconds after i get back."

then there's his bullshit passive that not only does % health after a certain point, but STEALS A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF MOVE SPEED.

ye fine

but whenever they make original champions you bitch about them until they get nerfed to dead

100% truth.

Solidair319 votes

The fact of the matter is that three hit effects are just good design. They promote focused attack, and thus require follow through for their effect to matter.

And as for mobility, Kindred's high mobility is dependent on being inside the WOLF ZONE, otherwise their Q uses a static 9 second cooldown. I would call Kindred hyper mobile but with special circumstances (like Yasuo needing minions, kalista requiring a target, etc)

The WOLF ZONE is not that large and will only offer mobility in a smallish zone. I'm more interested in the mind games you can pull off with Lamb's target selection for the passive. I am looking forward to this new champ more than I was Tahm Kench, that is for certain.

the most common mechanic is actually a straight Q skillshot

Often, with a slow.

Meep Man10 votes

As stated above, unique mechanics are usually hated by the community OR are never played. Bard and Ekko come to mind on this.

BluePolarizer6 votes

Well, I posted an idea of Kindred as an assassin/executioner jungle marksman with unique mechanics such as increased range against targets on the brink of death, a delayed on-hit fear, mobility for chasing only (little mobility for running away) and long CD shapeshifting/telegraphed mobility tied to 2 unit micro.

It got downvoted.

Coming up with new things is harder than you'd think, I'm impressed with Riot's creativity in both kit and champion design, but that's just me.

RisenDarkKnight3 votes

To be fair, "mobility" isn't really a recycled mechanic anymore than having abilities that do damage is. Most champions have some form of mobility. While their q doesn't seem to be super unique, saying riot shouldn't put any mobility on new champions because we already have mobile champions is a silly design restriction. I agree that the 3 hit procs are getting old though.

YOLO420SWAGSCOPE3 votes

remember when kalista came out? she was original with a brand new mechanic then people complained

ElJanitorFrank3 votes

I like how this ONE thing that is similar to other abilities makes the entire champion not unique anymore.

Every single other ability this champion has is completely different, but because ONE is SIMILAR you immediately toss them into the wind.

Catastrop3 votes

Because when Riot tries to be original, the community bitches at them even more. I think Riot should just disregard forums when it comes to champion design because people are never satisfied.

Xeynid2 votes

Mobility is a measure of how easy it is for you to be wherever you want whenever you want. Kindred only has mobility, and therefore, can only go wherever it pleases, within a smallish range, so it's mobility with a chain. Kind of mobility and counter-mobility.

3-hit proc means you have to be able to hit the target multiple times in quick succession to really access your damage. It allows riot to give a champion large amounts of burst without making that burst unanswerable. Even a 3-auto delay is a delay.

skyknyt2 votes

Common mechanics mean that it's easier to learn related characters.

Dota's "Hey this is a super different mechanic but it's described in a dense paragraph and has 5 independent moving parts" is less fun than you'd think it'd be. It results in a system dominated by edge cases.

Leetri2 votes

Yeah, one reason I stopped trying to learn Dota 2 is that I didn't want to learn everything on the wiki by heart in order to play. There's just so many moving parts and twists you're overloaded trying to learn it all. You really need someone who knows the game to teach you.

Final Spark Lux2 votes

Ok, well why don't you give suggestions on what kind of mechanics you'd like to see instead of criticizing riot for re-using a mechanic. There are quite a lot of champions in league, it's hard to come up with brand new content non stop without it being similar to another champion in league, never mind being similar to other games already out there

Old Man Teeto2 votes

Bard was original.

Three abilities and a unique passive. Only his Q wasn't, and it had fairly unique mechanic's on how you made the best out of it.

With 120+ champions though, you can't have 5/5 Original and a cohesive kit that works for an archetype.

I'm okay with 1/5 unique, 2/5 heavily altered mechanic, 2/5 well known mechanic.

GreenLore2 votes

Because giving a safe zone in which no one can die and even your enemies can be healed is something that we've seen already so often right?

Or the marking of people/monsters for a permanent bonusreward if you kill them?

Or creating a zone where your enemies are harassed by a wolf spirit?

Seriously the 3-stacking-mechanic is overused, but kindreds kit is far from "just a bunch of recycled stuff" and its still different in certain ways everytime.Kindreds E isn't a passive effect,it is an active one that requires kindred to attack 3 times afterwards, meaning the ability has a cooldown and thus kindred only gets one chance to get the stacks onto her enemy.

Jasiwel1 votes

The only part about the new champ's kit that bothers me is the "3x hit to deal X Damage" because we've seen that design and stack mechanics in general on so many champions/reworks recently. It's a decent way to implement sustained damage on a kit, but at this point it's becoming really overdone.

Braum's passive is much more creative: it takes 4 hits. Such difference!

...seriously, though, a reward for repeatedly AAing the same target is used a lot because it has good gameplay rewards. You can deny it by backing away after the first couple hits, but then the person who has it can use it to zone you out, or have a friend lock you down so you can't get away in time (1 second slow isn't exactly going to do that on its own).

I'd argue that "repeated hits do something" is just as generic as "has a dash" now and can't really be called an imitation of previous champions (either specifically or in general). Especially when there are so many kinds of it: other people can build up Braum's, Vel'koz can refresh with AAs but only add stacks with spells, Vayne can only have it on one target at a time, Tahm has his spells change effects and even what he can target, Gnar and Vi get steroids for themselves when they set theirs off. Caitlyn, Yasuo and Twisted Fate can attack one target (or several) to charge up and then switch the "payoff" hit to another because their stacks are on them and not on specific targets.

The effects on the target vary too, from just damage to debuffs to hard CC (Braum, Tahm, Yasuo, Xin).

FistOfSharkiesha1 votes

I like how nobody mentioned Kindred's dash is literally the exact same as Fiora/Ekko. Seriously the last champ, this champ, and 2nd most recent rework all had the exact same ability.

frigginmurlocs1 votes

Oh yeah I forgot that fiora and ekko attack everything in a short range during their dash oh wait they dont

FistOfSharkiesha1 votes

Ekko dashes then blinks to his target and does nearly the same damage as Fiora/Kindred dash. Fiora dashes then attack her target. So yes, they do.

"Rito, you keep reusing mechanics, you're so boring!" "Rito, why the hell did you make this new mechanic? It's so OP!"

Riot literally cannot win. If one half of the community is satisfied with how they're doing, the other half is bitching because Riot did something they didn't like.

Oh, they're using the 3-hit mechanic so that a champion has a reason to stay in a fight instead of hitting and running? They did that for like ten other champions, sooo overused amirite? A champ has mobility to make sticking to--or escaping from--a fight easier? Boooring.

Why don't you do anything new? Oh yeah, that's right, because other champions with new mechanics have been the target of complaint since their creation, and to this day are still hated by other irrational, mindless players.
