Sometimes they buy skins just because they look good. If you flame someone for spending money on a skin because they suck at that champion is honestly one of the stupidest things to be toxic about.

because people usually buy skins if they play the champion a lot. Just because it's not 100% doesn't mean it can't be true. If someone has an expensive skin the first day it comes out, chances are, they main the champion and bought it

That is an illogical assumption. I would never conclude that someone is highly skilled with a character just because they own a particular skin type. I would wait to see how they perform with that character before making such a judgment.
There is more of a "coolness" factor with character skins than play skill. I can buy a pro basketball uniform. That does not make me a professional basketball player.

That's not illogical. The better you are good at a champion, the more you play it, the higher frequency you play it, the skin becomes more worthy.
Of course some people might just really love the skin or the champion, you know, the coolness factor.
Both don't contrast each other, so I don't get where the flaw in the logic is. Both increase the chance you buy the skin, but both don't force someone to buy a skin.
The illogical assumption is, however, people must be good at the champion with any skins. The keyword here is "must". If you did notice, to the person you replied used the word "usually".

this isn't true at all for a lot of people though, well I can only speak for myself and my friends, but it gotten to the point where we just by skins we like , even if we play the champion a lot or at all and I know we cant be only ones like this, I have 3 riven skins I think I've played her 5 times since her release, pulsfire ez and dj sona I own just because they were on sale when 1st released, point is I think a majority of people buy skins just cause they can, I don't even own bard yet and have never played him but you can be damn sure I'm buying that snow down skin.

I play these champions and these skins well for one someone spent money on them to do something nice for me and I'm not going to let there money go to waste. Or I just have a bad habit of buying skins I think look amazing in game whether or not I'm good at the champion. Buying a skin doesn't mean you have skill it means you have money to spend on a game simply put.

Plus Skintimidation is a solid tactic, just look at all the people who think Skin = good with champ. At the very least it's as solid of a tactic as taunt spamming to put the enemy on tilt.
