Why is Riot under the Impression that Mundo is even half good at jungling?

he is possably the weakest jungler early game out of any of the tank options. His jungling is so unhealthy that he doesnt start to actually tank things until around 3 full items into the game. which is hard to get considering your only reliable income is farming camps because lets face it.. running up to someone with a skill shot slow and no gap closers is one hell of a way to not get a kill. i havent seen mundo in a ranked game top lane or jungle in more games thaan i can count and when i did it was pretty aweful.

Here is the thing. mundo was a good jungler back when you could spellvamp off of the camps. now he is a useless liability because although he clears fairly fast he eats all of his health doing it. he doesnt start making healthy clears so late into the game than any jungler with half a brain will either

  • counter jungle him and kill him multiple times early game

  • gank the piss out of lanes with no answer from the 25% health mundo

  • rush dragons and outer turrets before 20 minutes when mundo starts to become useful

mundo has so many bad matchups in the jungle that he might as well not even be considered a jungler but yeah lets not get to out of hand with those mundo buffs. i would hate to actually use him in a ranked game ever.

This is my point. we all know mundo is a pretty tanky champ late game however he has no tools to help his team make it to the late game. he doesnt have the cc for ganks. he doesnt have counter jungle pressure. he doesnt have a lot of dualing power. he doesnt have what it takes to be successful at his job. meanwhile you have sion who is just as strong late game who also brings tons of cc and zone control to the table. i just dont understand why you would want to keep him as weak as he is in the jungle.

EDIT THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO RIOT SAYING THEY WANTED TO BUFF HIS LANING WITHOUT MAKING HIM A CRAZY JUNGLER

I tried Mundo jungle a couple times out of simply loving the goofy Doctor. And playing Mundo right now is just awful. Even in lane, you have zero presence against most champs. And good luck trading when you eat your own health away waveclearing.

Well, he now gets his Q cost refunded if it kills the minion, so there's that.

Works great until you can't Q backline minions so you lose a bunch of CS unless you want to eat pokes and trades. :/

It's a bandaid solution for the much larger problem that Mundo doesn't really have an identity aside from being a giant damage sponge. It's a side effect of being a Gen I champion. Maybe not on the same level as Sion, but about two steps up from that. Mundo has an identity beyond a handful of movie quotes, but aside from his Q, his entire skill set is a series of buffs, and two of them (W and R) are mostly used for escaping. It also conflicts with itself; Olaf, for example, gets consistently more dangerous the less HP he has, and his ult makes it so he can't get CC'd to death. Mundo's E is in the same vein where he's supposed to get more powerful the less HP he has, but then his passive and R work against this while providing him one of two only methods to close the gap with the enemy (the other being his Q, which is a much safer, possibly more powerful and convenient alternative). All that aside, he's BORING to play! There are other damage sponges (Nautilus, Volibear, Rammus, Braum, Garen, and now Sion) that are much more fun to play and have a much more coherent kit.

My opinion of Mundo is that he's a big, regenerating ball of fluff. If you can smack the fluff down faster than it can regenerate, you basically beat Mundo. If you can't, then, well, too tanky I guess.

Unlike most tanks that have a form of mitigation, Mundo tanks by regen-ing super fast. It's why Spirit Visage is core on him. Is that a viable means of tanking early on? Idk, maybe not.

Mundo's a bad champion, but just thinking about how he'd go about jungling, it seems like he'd be exceptionally good at it. He has innate sustain, a skill that functions as a second Sunfire/Cinderhulk on top of the Cinderhulk that you SHOULD be getting with him, and an attack damage buff. Maybe in practice it's a different story, but I doubt it.

His sustain isn't good enough to justify his health costs early on. His ganks are underwhelming since he brings no hard CC or damage. Late game, he's a good tank, but other tanks are much better at engage and disengage than Mundo, and other tanks bring more utility.

Well, you asserted that Riot thinks he is good at jungling. I'm not sure they do think he's good at jungling. I haven't seen them say or do anything relating to Mundo jungle. They seem to have been balancing him mainly around top lane lately.

read patch notes.

They said they wanted a was to increase his lane sustain without raising him to warwick level sustain. They don't think he is a good jungler. YOU read the notes and think what they are saying through.

Health costs in general make bad junglers unless they have consistant early sustain Aatrox

im pretty sure its more along the lines of "champs with good sustain get gutted because when they are strong they can 3v1" a good example of this is a vlad that snowballed lane

Sightless662 votes

They want to give a buff to his toplane without buffing him in the jungle. That doesn't mean they think he's a good jungler, it means they don't want to make him a good jungler. I guess I see where you're coming from, but they even acknowledge that he's pretty much a top lane tank.

This is less of an issue with mundo jungle specifically and more with Mundo in general. Since his core is his health regen he has to have a crappy start or else he'd be oppressively unkillable by everyone's low starting damage.

If you want to buff Mundo jungle you're going to need a fix that doesn't involve champion interaction. Possibly something like adjusting his passive to Spirit Visages mechanic of % healing effects to buff machete heal.

What makes you think they think he is a good jungler?
