Although, with the increased cd of his ult it now shaves only around 10 seconds of the ult timer compared to live at max cdr

SecretAgentHulk3 votes

Twenty seconds, which is a pretty big deal honestly.

EDIT: nm, math op. (With max CDR is now 24 vs 36 sec.)

I think these changes actually hurt cho more than help. He loses a ton of lane pressure by not having ult.

RiotMeddler24 votes

Our primary goal with these changes was to give Cho'gaths that fall too far behind (lose all/most of their stacks and can't afford to build them much because they need the CD available) some better options for getting them back, without trivializing stack building. Secondary goals/effects of that change should be a bit of a jungling buff and hopefully a few extra interesting trade offs around who to ult and when. Power wise we were aiming for a slight buff overall, so if we were wrong on that and this is a nerf overall we'll likely follow up with a buff somewhere.

MattAkhavan1 votes

At first glance i thought it was a really cool buff because it actually allows you to get stacks without tanking the whole cool down of the ability, however after reading some feedback from some of the "cho mains" I revised that opinion. I don't play chogath often i must say, however i think that in a game where people take advantage of cool downs and time-frames where you can trade it baits cho into losing pressure. Of course, as it goes to life we will see more of how it effects cho, but i think it hurts cho in the lane.

In the jungle might be a different story though, because you can now stack your ults twice as fast and still have time to gank with kill potential. It's really a push and pull change.

It's amazing that you guys can be so downright competent at thinking out minor changes to never used champions but have 0 understanding of what the effects of your item/summoner changes will be. It's like "Hey top lane is a shithole were ranged champions faceroll every melee for 6+ levels and the mandatory teleport makes aggression impossible to the extent that poppy is more viable than any 'lane bully' fighter in the game because we don't understand how doran's shield or teleport is important. But here are some subtle cho'gath changes that are actually intelligent."

I'm being sincere btw I'm not just taking the chance to insult the balance team. I'm seriously sort of in awe at you guys.

RoyaiChaos5 votes

Well it's easier to come up with these minor changes, while bigger changes that affect all champions have to be better though out and thus take longer.

Longer than 9 months? They gutted doran's shield because supports were abusing it and they didn't have to take the free harass csing on melee champions. So convert some/all of the hp regen into life gain on last hit. (This also has the benefit of being better at high elo where fighters are garbage but people can last hit compared to low elo where fighters are almost playable and they can't.) Like these really aren't difficult problems they either just don't understand top lane or don't care about it.

Fail. You realize that last hitting is not the same as auto attacking right?

Unless you are pushing into the tower (which you do a couple of times in the laning phase, maybe) you can't auto attack the minions for life stealing. You get 1 AA per minion depending on how far away you are forced to stand by the range opponent. That's why the other guy here suggested life gain on the last hit, like a Relic Shield has got (if only you could use that...).

Except that that would still step all over DBlade's toes, they would be doing (nearly) identical things, mechanically speaking. Yes there's some manner of nuance between the two, but when things get that close to one another in functionality, it's difficult to avoid one being strictly better than the other.

I don't know if you're actually trying to form an informed opinion or just being a riot apologist who like the fact that it takes no skill for him to beat melee champions on his ranged ones any more. But in case it's the first case: Lifesteal is blatantly better on ranged champions than melee because they can sit there free autoing while the melee actually eats free harass for being near the minion line. It's not remotely the same mechanic.

Add on the fact that for fighters lifesteal scales shittily because they can't build to be constantly hitting with their base attacks like adcs do. That will just get you 1) kited 2) blown up unless you're at an elo where yi is good.

Cowsep you say?

I was (as I mention in another comment) pointing out how similar in function the suggested passive for Dshield and the current and past passives for DBlade act.

I feel like Cho has more issues than just that. There was so much mobility introduced, he can't keep up with all the dashes anymore.

I thought of an interesting way to help him: Upon landing Rupture Cho gains 6% of movemet speed for each stack of Feast he has (2s).

This way landing Rupture feels more rewarding and stacks actually add some utility to his kit, other than "just health".

How doesn't he keep up with dashes? He has a huge AOE silence to prevent dashes, He has a decently ranged knock up? His Ult is a great execute for champions that won't sit still even.

Kowe The Ewok3 votes

A delayed silence which is countered by these very dashes. Not to mention the cheap range.

The knockup is even more delayed.

Maybe it's easy to pull of at bronze, but at Platinum you won't have enjoyable day playing him against a Vayne, Draven, Graves or Lucien.

Silents4291 votes

A silence with a big AOE cone, so anyone dashing around you is hit.

A Q that requires timing, and for you to be smart enough to way til after they do there dash to actually use it.

But I am sure your Platinum, you know to wait til -after- they use there dash to use your abilities like that.

He is gold, not platinum.

Please learn to read :)

Here again, a screen frome arlier today to show you what my MMR is like: http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3833/bovafiyx_png.htm

As I said earlier. I started ranked late cause RL kept my busy. My MMR is mid Platin, maybe even higher even though my CURRENT yoloQ rank doesn't show it.

McCashDollars1 votes

Blah blah mmr, you're not platinum or diamond.

Kowe The Ewok1 votes

Yet I play against people of that Elo, which was my MMR. So why don't you stop trying to provoke myeand acting lost instead? You are unconstructive and repetitive.

P.S: Another one, this time against 2 diamond players who I stomped: http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3838/32bv5ktr_png.htm

Sailor Mint2 votes

His Silence is unmissable if they are within ranged auto-attack distance of you. Rupture is one of the easier delayed AoE in the game. And a guaranteed combo if you land a silence.

I Main Swain3 votes

his rupture is actually one of the most difficult abilities in the game to land because it is the easiest ability in the game to predict.

Wheatloaf2 votes

Most comparable ability would be Vel'Koz's Tectonic Disruption (E), which I believe has a shorter warning period.

What Is Smite1 votes

I'm sorry but Vel'koz E is not aseasy to predict as you think it is when there is a q or w layered on top of it. Also I can't understand what you are trying to say over the sound of my laser that's killing your teammates one by one

McCashDollars1 votes

Ewok always talks about platinum and diamond on the message boards to others like they are beneath him. He's gold guys.

Kowe The Ewok1 votes

I took a break because of university. I started ranked 9 days before the season ended. Made it to G 1 in a week. (Check the amount of games played) My normal game (2.700+ wins) MMR pairs me with Diamond and Platinum players daily and I am duo queuing up with them daily now that I'm back at the game.

It's saddening though, you can't disprove what I am saying so you're trying to attack me in person. That's cheap lad, that's cheap. P.S: Nice twink you got there - is it for upvoting your own posts? ;)

EDIT: Here a screen of a LoLnexus from earlier today. Not the best guys I faced but also not the worst. Just happened to have that match still open: http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3833/bovafiyx_png.htm

You are using circular reasoning and logical fallacies to back up your claims.

Kowe The Ewok1 votes

Seriously what is wrong with you?= You are constantly raging at me and trying to provoke. Do me a God damn favor and get lost kiddo.

McCashDollars1 votes

I am unranked but I regularly play against diamonds in normals... CLEARLY I MUST BE DIAMOND.

Joe Dredd1 votes

Cho's silence lasts really long time. It'd be removed if it was 100% chance of hit, and it's not even hard to hit.

Kowe The Ewok2 votes

Nobody asked for it to be removed.

However some people here seem to be treating it like it was a high range, undodgeable ability. The above post was just a statement to clarify that this ability is not as reliable as some people apparently consider it to be.

Joe Dredd1 votes

It's not hard to hit at all. You act as if it's hard and needs buffs, but if they increased how easy it was to hit they'd definitely remove the silence because a 3 second AOE silence shouldn't be that easy to hit.

I Main Swain4 votes

his silence has a large delay, and his q takes as a total over a full second to land it. it is literally the easiest ability in the game to dodge. for his ult, you have to actually be able to get close enough, hence the problem with dash champs. imo, instead of an ms boost, his q should not have such a long cast animation coupled with a long delay for the actual rupture.

Kowe The Ewok2 votes

+1 for the truth

BetaDude403 votes

Well, second easiest to dodge. Sion Q being the first.

not a starburst2 votes

At least Sion can prematurely activate his Q, and at least he has a slow to help him land it. Cho has neither. Hitting his Q requires luck and a sense of what your enemy is about to do. At least he can spam it a bit. Sustain OP, amirite?

junglerboy162 votes

if it is a nerf, I had an idea where as you gain more ult stacks, the AOE of you spells increases slightly, just like your aa range. This could be a big help in the mobility meta where 80% of champions that you would want to knock up can dash or run out of your knock up, and it also feels like it would make sense that as the giant beast grows all of his spells grow a little bit too.

I had not considered that it would also be a jungle buff. Well thought.

ProfDrDeath1 votes

Meddler, if you don't mind me asking, what do you think Cho'Gath's intended role/fantasy is?

Personally, I think of him like a raidboss/protector. He does enough damage and CC threat in melee range so you don't really want to close in on him if you aren't sure you can take him head-on, but he also has some tools to deal with people attacking him from range if you use them skillfully (hitting someone in front of you to hit somebody further back with E spikes, the whole game of hitting/dodging Rupture). And yet, his enemies can capitalize on his relative immobility and relative weakness in laning phase to deal with him. The only case in which he becomes overwhelming in lane is when you're so far behind/he's so far ahead that he can just sustain through your damage - but that's somewhat true for every champion in the game.

And I can't really see you buffing him somewhere easily - his base stats are mostly above average already, with him leading the field (together with Skarner) in base AD. His abilities have good base damages and high scaling, but accessing that damage faces a fair set of restrictions (aiming or short range, his mana costs). His passive is tuned the way it is to avoid oppressiveness in lane.

Only thing you could do there is increase his base AS a little, but lower scaling - so he stays mostly the same if not building AS, but making the stat a little bit more rewarding. But that is just a personal pet peeve of mine.

Meep Man2 votes

Reduce the ultimate cool down to 70 seconds and make his Q easier to hit. Increased mobility in the game has really left him feeling meh.

Not sure why this is downvoted, the changes are a respectable nerf to Cho'Gath.

looks like they don't want cho to lane :C this is a flat nerf to lane cho and a buff to jungle cho.

How is that a nerf to lane chogath you really shouldn't be using your ult on your enemy unless you have 6 stacks or you can finish them off with your ult. You should really only use your ult as a finisher in lane or to gain stacks and if your enemy isn't a complete retard your not going to be able to kill your enemy every 60 seconds. This seems like a buff to lane cho gath more then jungle cho gath because in lane you will 90% of the time die more then the jungler and when you die you lose half your stacks so now you can easily refund those stacks and get back to ulting your enemies in no time.

Unless you're going 30/0 every single game somehow then this is a buff not a nerf. 20 seconds increase on a spell that is only used to finish off your enemy isn't going to mater because your lane enemy isn't going to die every 60 seconds

xl Kirito lx1 votes

It follows the same logic as Blitzcrank, or Thresh. Once either of those champions uses their hooks in lane, then that gives a window of opportunity for the opposing laners to engage on them. A Blitzcrank with his hook up is scary. A Blitzcrank without his hook is not scary. If Cho'gath uses his ult in lane for a stack, then that gives the opponent opportunity to safely engage on him. In this case, if he ults a minion for the 90hp bonus, it gives the opposing laner 40s of safety, where Cho'Gath has no kill potential, and forces Cho'Gath to play incredibly passively until his ult is up again.

Please. Play the champion before you become an expert on him.

HalloweenDeath3 votes

I play cho gath quite a bit... Kinda pisses me off that you just automaticly assume I don't play a champion because I disagree with your opinion. Also, I love cho gath I love his infinite sustain I love his aoe cc I love the ability to delete the adc with your combo without building any damage other then rod of the ages and still do aoe damage to everyone else. I love being a massive monster that stomps on his enemys. I also love the fact that they are making a tank with no excape have less punishment for dying. Cho gath brings a lot to a team but I felt like as a tank you were far too punished for dying which is a really bad thing for a tank with no excape to have.

I will honestly play him more now more then ever. I also play him in lane and sometimes the jungle but usually if i'm jungling i'm playing nautilus and I've been playing more renekton top and support janna and have stayed away from cho gath for a while now.

The Worst KogMaw3 votes

And... before this change, ulting a minion gave your opponent 60s of safety rather than 40s. This is a buff if you choose to nom minions or monsters for your snacks stacks.

They lowered the window of opportunity for your opponent. That's what lowering the CD of noms on minions does. If you choose not to nom minions, as apparently you chose not to before, you will still always have your ult up. There is no change in that regard, unless you kill your lane opponent with it. In which case they're dead and window of opportunity doesn't matter nearly as much.
