does the voice chat feature cause lag?
I grouped with my goddaughter and mother only to be struck with terrible lag... After they left my games were perectly fine. does the voice chat feature cause lag?

DuskDaUmbreon2 votesUndoubtedly. Running it takes additional resources from your internet and your computer, so it 100% can cause lag.
True Garen2 votesYes. LoL Voice Chat is bad. It generally uses more resources than using Discord. (But it's variable, because Riot tends to do maintenance on it on the sly, and the problems are often worse at these times.) I would advise keeping LoL Voice disconnected and also your mic muted from it.
