Can we address Singed's passive?

Singed's most successful builds have not a single mana item included in them, I would say this is a clear indicator that something needs to be done with his passive.

well yeah it's kinda true. it has some mana and is situational (frozen heart sometimes; rod of ages; etc) but he's still awesome

I thought Tear and RoA were core items on Singed? Has that changed?

Rylai's is practically his only core item, everything else just goes in the Singed Build-a-build workshop. Tear, by many, has been declared a bad choice for singed. Even though it has the best synergy with his passive, you really, really, don't need things to synergize with your passive. His passive has two problems: It baits new players into going a mana build(it hurts to wake up), and it only provides a buffer to some of the items he builds. What i've gathered is that when facing an ap counter, rush one of the big token mr items(Banshee's or Spirit's), if facing an AD counter, depending on who it is. You have Thornmail(Quinn, gnar, etc), Sunfire cape(Darius), Frozen heart(Vayne, etc). I have no idea what matchup you'd rush Randuin's in, maybe if you fight a crit-stacking garen? I don't know. Otherwise, rush either RoA if you want a stronger lategame(rushing this versus an Illaoi worked for me, and ensured she couldn't 1v1 me after a few stacks built up), or rush Rylai's, for general utility and power, earlier. Just make sure you always build this. If you are, in fact, a Singed main, and everything I wrote down, you already know, I sincerely apologize for wasting your time.

I've been playing Singed since level 10 almost exclusively. :p

I picked him up back when I was level 8, or around that point, first match I got paired against a Darius. Needless to say, it went poorly. Next match, Riven, next, Lissandra. I gave up for a while. This was back in Season 4. I have little to no motivation to level in some seasons, season 5 was my most active season, went from 15 to 24, this preseason and a couple matches in season got me up to 28. But, to recover from my tangent, somewhere between those levels I found Chimpso on youtube, and found out about the Singed proxy. This, along with Johnny Holmes, helped me out a ton with Singed. Now Singed, even though he isn't among my top mastery point champions, is one of my best, along with Swain, Pantheon, and Twisted Fate.

That hasn't been the case since Season 3 into early Season 4.

Seraphs Embrace, RoA, and Frozen Heart are all mana-giving core items on Singed. I'm curious what Singes you've seen lately that hasn't had one of those 3 items...

The thing is, Singed doesn't need any of those. RoA takes a while to build up, tear even longer(most people have declared tear a poor choice for singed). Frozen heart is definitely nice, but it's still a situational item. In fact, all three are. His Passive really does need to change, as it does nothing but trap new Singed players into stacking mana. He has next to no mana issues late game, and two doran's rings early gives him some powerful mana sustain until he can sell them for better items. His most effective item is Rylai's, and it should be rushed in most situations.

I'd personally love a passive where he get's a customizable potion. Each upgrade giving a unique passive, and a unique active.

Ah my mistake, I've only played Singed a couple times. If this is indeed the case, than I 100% agree his passive should be changed

Any high elo Singed player never builds those. Frozen Heart only if you're vs a Vayne/Yi/Trynd, not for the mana but for the atk speed reduc.
