FOUR(!) simple things to consider if you want to climb (Trust me, it works!)

Malicious Metal··21 votes·2,829 views

The ranked season is already underway and people are getting their jimmies rustled by autofill, "inting" Teammates and "Elo Hell". But what would you say if I told you there are a few simple steps you have to follow to climb to yet unseen heights of Elo? You'd probably call me a scammer, but mind you, following these few ground rules you'll almost definitely start climbing.

Numero Uno: Do NOT flame your teammates or engage in mutual hatred mongering. A pretty simple thing, yet a lot of people are guilty of starting to throw blame around and start getting each other riled up. If you can't just shut your mouth and start flaming your teammates the moment something doesn't turn out the way you want it to just disable the chat function.

Flaming makes you AND your teammates play worse. It serves no cause except making you vent your frustration. Which can just as easily be achieved just grumbling in front of your screen and not bother typing out your death threats and slander.

Use your chat for constructive input or don't use it at all

Numero Dos: Know that you're going to lose. Nobody can maintain a 100% win rate, no use getting all frustrated over losses. Don't let yourself get pulled down by a crushing loss but just look at what you could've done better and move on.

Also, if you lose three in a row STOP playing. I might be Diamond 4 but I've been demoted numerous times simply by tilting and continuing to play, accumulating pretty impressive losing sprees.

Numero Tres: Don't try copying pros or the current FOTM. Play whatever YOU're good at. Stick to comfort picks and champions that fit your play style rather than trying to earn cheap LP by spamming the current OP champions. They'll get nerfed eventually anyways or be banned most of the time.

I'd rather have someone who's good at Jarvan than a mediocre Graves on my team.

Autofill is a reality Sometimes you'll get autofilled, no need to complain about it. There are countless of easy champions to play in the roles you were filled in, so please consider picking them up and play them whenever you're filled.

Top: Maokai Nautilus Malphite Jungle: Amumu Warwick Gragas Mid: Ahri Annie Swain ADC: Caitlyn Sivir MissFortune Support: Leona TahmKench Thresh

Following these few principles you'll see yourself improve in rating in no time!

If you just select fill you're most likely to get

  1. Sup
  2. Jung
  3. Mid
  4. ADC
  5. Top

If you want to main support select Support then fill.

I don't know about ranked queue, but I've been getting filled to bot in draft queue a lot recently. I think "ADC in 2017" meme is (at least partly) responsible for this.

adc is a crap role right now and people are catching on. If you don't have to deal with a cancerous enemy team, you have to deal with your no peel team, your shitty ass autofill support or your cancerous team. It's easier to take an Ashe into Zed top lane and survive than it is to 2v1 bot lane with a support that has 0 idea of what they're doing, only to go from a 2v1 to a 4v1.

50000000000000001 votes

As a 4th pick bot, all my team picked squishy carries. Last pick was mid, who I didn't expect to pick a tank (if it were me I'd take Naut mid for a balnced teamcomp), and they didn't. I just locked in Sion because fuck getting bursted at the start of every fight.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

Pretty much. ADC is casually becoming one of the least contest roles. Almost on that same lvl as top.

I agree with everything besides you putting thresh as an "easy" support, you should trade that with blitz because by god have I seen some people that don't look like they have played league before when they try thresh.

1: dont suck 2: muteall 3: push TOWERS 4: dont afk farm when infernal is up ( as a jungler ) 5: dont suck 6: Play meta.

My proudest proof of this is this guy https://eune.op.gg/summoner/userName=Arcaadian coached him into diamond last season now he got master on his own. we only played together during the time we were both d3. He just did the 6 things i told him. and he went from a d4 player to a master tier player during preseason.

he was plat when i met him so more like plat to d3 and then he achieved master on his own even tho we duo'd he promos to d1 and masters ;p

You also shouldn't retaliate back to flaming. That time could be better spent planning your next play, watching the map, or focusing on a particular objective.

You're going to fight five people regardless. No need to increase that number.

Ravenhale2 votes

I'm supposed to have a 3 win or 3 loss rule in place, but I am never really in the mood to play anything else.

Häßlich1 votes

Then modify your rule. Win as many as you want, but if you win more than 3 and then lose 2, that's a good time to stop.

Ravenhale1 votes

This assumes that I have win streaks. I haven't had one of those in a long time.

  • If your team is being selfish, be the opposite. Play that Naut top, Play that Soraka support. Do you want to win, or do you want to be equally as selfish and play Trynd jungle and lose? You can be the carry next game, but it won't matter if you lose 5 games cause you wanted to be equally as selfish and now you've lost your promo. Suck it up and do what you gotta do to win and get better.

  • Don't let your team bait you into following them on their derpy "chase through the jungle" killing clown fiesta. Go with your gut, not with your team. Everyone doing the same thing in solo queue doesn't work as well as everyone doing the same thing in pro play, because 9 times out of 10, the "Same thing" can end in a fast ace.

  • Objectives are 100%, always, forever, more important than a kill. If your choice is "get that quick support kill" or "get this tower real quick", screw the kill and get the tower. If you take that time to kill the support, there is a chance someone else shows up to defend that tower and now at best you killed a support who was likely about to recall anyways, you get shit for gold, and now you've missed xp, cs, and that tower.

  • If the map is dark, ward it! Don't whine about your support needing to ward, get a damn blue trinket and ward from a far, get them item 2055 when you back and not 6 items. Pretty simple.

  • The second, and I mean the SECOND someone gets whiny, bitchy, and starts blaming anyone on your team (Even if they are "deserving" of blame), mute that dude that instant, and don't unmute them. From that point on, treat them like an intermediate bot and get them objectives. Don't give them the time of day. If you do, it is YOUR fault you are tilted now, not theirs.

MilitaryMac1 votes

Just main ---->Nautilus and hit fill. He can pretty much hold his own in all rolls. Anything over gold and Naut mid/adc is really rough without help.

Malicious Metal2 votes

Implying you won't just get Support every time you fill in Bronze-Gold.

litocow1 votes

i think the main thing is YOUR IN A TEAM PLAY AS A TEAM THING FOR THE TEAM AND WORK AS A TEAM and MOST IMPORTANT your score is THE TEAM SCORE ON ur champ score... meaning if your support and u died less then your adc u failed... as support u should die for your adc dumb or not.. not all cases but if u could die to save his life you should.. other lane losing think of how to help them if they are losing lane think of how to help don't rage at them about warding but maybe buy a pink ward to help them out... try to lift them back dont shut them down even more.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

There are no easy picks for bot lane, you need to know what you are doing.

Maybe Ashe is somewhat forgiving because your spells give you a lot of control.

As support you need experience, otherwise you are not going to win any lane without help. All support picks have the potential to fail hard if not played correctly.

Häßlich10 votes

Ashe is not actually recommended, because she has low mobility and requires you to be on top of your positioning and stutter-stepping with frost shot. For someone looking to learn adc, I'd probably tell them one of these: Corki Ezreal Tristana Have an escape/gap closer, depending on use Caitlyn Varus Jhin Can play more safely by using their higher range profiles

I honestly think Riot does a disservice to new players by putting Ashe in the tutorial as someone to learn with, because she is so easily punished for even minor mistakes. If I were a new player and wanted to learn with access to only 2 adcs, I'd probably go with Ezreal or Varus (yes, even after the nerfs), because these guys both play well under tower when the enemy dives them, and are generally good in lane as well.

An argument could be made that Ashe and Varus are a lot alike, but Ashe's Q has a little bit of a learning curve to it, and her Volley isn't very reliable poke. Varus' Q teaches you the importance of landing skill shots and he has better wave clear overall (discounting items, ofc). His W is effectively a second passive, so he only has to think about two abilities for most of the game while occasionally tossing out his ult.

I'm not saying that Ashe is a bad champion, just that she has a higher skill floor. Someone should be comfortable with bot lane fundamentals and general adc mechanics before learning her.

Leaf on Bush2 votes

I thought the goal was to have somewhat decent chances of winning and not how to avoid being a free kill. If you need to pick Ezrael in general just because he has an escape then you have some bigger issues, which are not just related to the adc role.

Ashe can always have an impact, she can use her ult to catch out enemies or to counter engages, her W hits the whole screen and slows everything and of course she can scout ahead without risk. All that stuff is always usefull, no matter which role you are used to.

If you are ahead you can use this to snowball, if you are behind you have a relatively good chance of coming back.

Ashe is just a solid markman... markswoman.

Häßlich4 votes

Implying that Ezreal and Varus aren't strong in their own right? Even if that isn't what you're saying, this was aimed at someone who isn't comfortable as an adc and wants to learn it. I agree that Hawkshot is really nice to have, but it has a long cooldown, and if vision is your thing you'd be better off playing Quinn, who can do more burst damage and use her Ult to escape, or for picks. Volley is easy to use, but low reward and easily countered by TONS of things in the game.

None of the adc's I listed lack "decent chances of winning," and Ashe is far more likely to be a free kill than any of them. When you're learning that role, being a free kill is the worst thing you can do. You want some measure of safety and room for error, and while Ashe isn't the worst, she is very low on both of these.

If I were to make a list of adc's to avoid while learning the role, it'd be something like this: Ashe KogMaw Vayne Kalista

Leaf on Bush1 votes

I don't really want to repeat myself....

Häßlich2 votes

Wouldn't do any good anyway. The only thing you said that I agree with is that Hawkshot can give her some (temporary) safety. The rest of her kit and lack of mobility make her an easy target.

Genjab1 votes

I (conditionally) disagree with number 3. Some people are good at picking up champs who are "broken" and climbing with them. I would alter what you said to rather: "It's much safer to play champs you are comfortable with. You may not climb as fast if you are constantly switching mains"

Good list, though, I think :)

I euh... would suggest an enchanter like Soraka or Sona before any of these guys.

Yaśuo Main1 votes

Tahm kench provides provides better escapes and an emergency "yo we are late to the fight bro get in" ult

Leona has loads of CC so you can protect yourself and your ADC better at the front line than others except MAYBE Soraka.

Thresh is... Well... I am not sure. I'd put Sona infront of Thresh.

I practically main Sivir bot lane and I lose all the time. I'm considering Varus.

Also I've been doing good as Sion top.

How is Jhin not the fourth champion in the fourth role (it goes top, jg, mid, ADC(number4) in the fourth section of that list.

Or are you waiting for the fourth list.

How I got out of bronze:

  1. Flame when necessary
  2. Play non-stop but maintain a positive mentality, once you hit like 10 loses then stop
  3. Try to be a meta-slave but dont follow it 100% because that's the op picks and people are going to ban it.

My suggestion for getting out of bronze: ANYTHING THAT IS BRAINDEAD AND HAS GOOD CC
