A (strange) idea to enable some more unique junglers.
Let me preface by saying I'm not good but I love me some weird junglers: Taric Jungle. Yorick jungle and, most recently, Swain jungle. I only played like one or two games with him but I had a blast. The thing is, most champions I play usually have some sort of issue that keeps them from being played more. For example, Yorick usually has to clear an entire raptor camp in slow fashion, although he's godlike at objective securing early and certain 1v1 match-ups. Swain's Q is amazing for jungling but the early CD (Something like 7 seconds) makes jungling early suck.
So what if we changed this with an item?
Hear me out: The item would be a supplement for either talisman or machete. It's got similar stats to either but the kicker is the item's passive:
Hunting License: Empowers one of your champion's abilities to improve their hunting.
So what does this item do? Well, the most apt comparison I can think of is Aghanim's scepter from DOTA. The item is an expensive purchase but it radically changes the hero's ultimate or sometimes awards entire new abilities. This item would do something similar: Modify a champion's ability so that they can better jungle. However, there are caveats:
- ONLY works in the jungle/river.
- ONLY works on monsters/epic monsters. No minion buffs.
- ONLY buyable with Smite (And maybe some finagling with spellbook)
So what could this do? Well, Riot wants to open up more champs for more lanes but sometimes, jungling just requires a tune that would make the champ broken or break their laning phase. However, with this item, you could give every champion in the game a unique tune that makes them easier to play in the jungle, opening up new comps and ideas depending on what could be required. I don't have something set in stone for EVERY single champ (And some champs just don't need it) but the idea could be worth exploring in the future.
#TL;DR: My proposal is that Riot introduces a new item for junglers that modifies an ability they have to improve their jungling. In doing so, you can more effectively balance between jungle and laning, as well as open up another role to champions who might not fit in such a role.
