How do I deal with an Anivia lane as Morgana?

I've been trying to play Morg mid a lot recently so I can branch out to other roles rather than just support. I've tried playing against as many champs as I could, but one that's giving me particular trouble is Anivia. I know I can just use my E to block her ball stun, but that leaves me wide open for ganks if I don't ward the correct side of the river, or if my shield is down and she casts it again. I can farm well enough with my W, but Anivia seems impervious to my harass. How do I play this lane?

Midlane Morgana generally doesn't win lane. She just doesn't lose it.

Generally, you don't run Morello on her when in mid. But that's your choice. RoA is far superior, in my opinion.

However, into Anivia...there's honestly not much you can do. For her ball, you need to dodge to the side, and save your E for when she engages to kill (or if you're not gonna be able to dodge it). You can do a good amount of damage with Q>W, but your odds of ever killing Anivia are pretty much zero.

My suggestion is to just wear her down and take turret. You can zone her away from her minions by the threat of your Q>W, and you can simply take turret.

You can also call for ganks from your lane to beat her. Your E and Q gives them a lot of power against her. And you can easily use your Q to block her path. Besides that...not much. Honestly, there's just some champions you can't beat as certain champions, unless they opponent is downright retarded...

We meet again o/ Adding onto this: While playing Anivia, I noticed some players would be unusually forward and agressive. I guess what probably happened is they heard that Anivia's Q is hard to land, so they thought they didn't have to do anything special or try to dodge it. But the more aggressivle you're playing into Anivia, the easier it is for her to hit you with it. So if her Q is being such a problem for you, you're probably playing too aggressively. She's really good at punishing aggressive play, and even strong early game champions can struggle to so much as pop a good Anivia's passive.

The two best things you can do against Anivia is learn Lane Control and Dynamics, and fuck with the rest of her team. Early on if you shove the wave into her Tower, you can make Anivia miss CS. lowering her CS delays her mana items, which makes it harder for her to clear waves and causes this painful cascade effect that keeps delaying her next stage. After 6, you have to wait until after Anivia clears the wave to put your Pool down. She clears waves much faster then you do (She's a monster at it, really), so if you put your pool down first she'll just kill your minions and then hers will just walk out of your pool. That really sucks, and you need to watch out for all champs that can clear waves fast like that.

Anivia has always been a pretty team oriented champion, and that's even more true now after her rework. So, if you can shut her teammates down, you can really slow her down too. If she's got a fed Tank, you also really need to look out for them enabling eachother. Basically what happens is one of them lands their CC and, then the other one does and Anivia Ults and walls off their escape... If that happens, it can be really nasty to deal with. Roaming/teleporting and shutting down her team is your best option for keeping Anivia from going off, especially as a control mage like Morg. Teleport is better then combat summoners in this matchup, because it's not really like you're going to fight Anivia much anyway. Maybe cleanse if she has a tank(without a knockup.......)

It's been awhile since I've played, but I used to main both of these champs so hope it helps o/

Ayy. We do meet again! :D

As a general rule, I do always suggest TP on midlane Morgana. You don't need ignite (long range and DPS means you don't tend to get close enough), cleanse is only good for trolling the enemy team, ghost isn't necessary...Barrier or Exhaust might be good choices into assassins, but that's about it. And since you move so slowly, TP gives you a lot of power to actually roam.

She might out-waveclear you, but you just need to hold her minions in place, which you can do by just taking minion aggro (your passive lets you stand up to this easily). Just stand there and press W on her casters (rank 3+ will kill them).

As Morgana, everyone needs to remember that you're not meant to be aggressive against anyone. Your power isn't in killing, it's in outlasting and wearing down. RoA+Ring (and mana regen quints+masteries for me :3) means you'll never run out of mana if you're just using W, your passive means you'll have a hard time being worn down, and your entire kit stops them from all-inning you. And you can adapt as the game needs you easily (you can get a more burst-oriented build, or a straight-out tank build).

Morgana v Anivia generally solves out to be a farm lane, like a lot of people here mentioned (and yes, most of Morgana's lanes solve out to be farm lanes, this is both her strength and weakness). Neither has the kill pressure to kill their opposite, though Morgana can lvl 6 flash-all-in Anivia and 100-0 her, provided she has a jungler to strut in and DPS the egg down afterward.

If you need to flash out of a Q post-6 though, evaluate whether you can flash into her and pop her passive.

But the larger-scale advice is just play passively, wait until mid-game rolls around, and apply your roaming-cc better in team fights.

As for the Anivia Q, it's a combination of git gud (don't get hit by the linear slow moving skill shot), and play around cool downs (when your shield is down, you need to hang back if you can't see their jungler), as well as manage the creeps (don't let anivia set up a stall at her turret, and try to make one of your own).

I'd recommend picking up a better mid lane champ. Morg is a very situational mid lane in my opinion. She doesn't do well under most match ups. I know changing your champion pool can be difficult, but it's beneficial in the long run. To answer your question, wait until she wastes her snowball or ice spike attack on a minion, and then use that time to deal as much dmg as possible. if you miss your bind, play safe and try not to engage until it comes back. It's probably a match up you want to play safer and wait for ganks from your jungle. If you are stuck in a situation where your jungle does not gank, I'd recommend roaming bottom and getting your adc/yourself fed. Morg has one of the highest amounts of cc in the game if you know what your doing, so roaming bot at the right time could grant you a huge advantage. anivia can't push lanes extremely fast in the early game, so roaming early (around 6-10 minutes) is very possible.

Pretty much the best you can do is wait for ganks and try to set your jungler up for kills. Focus on cs and being at a longer range so you wont have to be using E to block the Q stun. Your low mobility and MS will make it a struggle and her wall can prevent you from getting in range for R or just give her the wiggle room by cutting you off so she can snap the teather. Overall your going to have low damage output vs her so I would personally just max Soil and push lane mindlessly, keep a few pinks handy for vision in addition to your yellows, and wait for team fights and items. snag t2 shoes sooner then later imo. Also consider item 3151 if they have a tanker comp.

As an anivia player i can say that morg is easy to deal with, especially if they are aggressive. As other people mentioned before aggresive players and champs are easily punished by anivia, even if she faces counters. Morg can win lane only if she hits her snare, and times her shield perfectly, but other than that you should avoid fighting anivia alone, especially in 1 vs 1.

Anivia is reliant in her team, and trying to snowball other lanes and crush anivias allies can help, but most of the time anivia will take TP as a summoner spell, so if you plan to out roam her you should consider the possibility that anivia also has TP as a spell and that you will face her and her allies in another lane.

Anivia is a control mage that relies on her team, but can do as much as other mages to swing the tides. Make your priority cc'ing her, as an engage of your team forgets her, her ult and q will change the battle in her teams favor. Dont fight in narrow ways, anivia thrives in jungle fights because her wall and ult can block entire passage ways, your hope on defeating anivia as morg is your team. Adc's and mobile bruisers/assassins can means anivia has to focus on different areas, especially long range or mobile adc's as they can kill anivia while not being in danger.
