@Riot - Why is there no Needlessly Large Rod build path?

Blainezy··2 votes·797 views

I have just been curious lately. A lot of the other "core" items, like Zeal, Phage, Brutalizer, Sheen, etc all have a build path. However, needlessly large rod does not. Was just curious as to why not. A needlessly small rod that's like 600 gold and gives 20-25 AP would still be nice.

Although I suppose I understand the benefit of being able to stash 1600 gold and buy one out right, but at the same time, if you're behind, you will stay there awhile unless you are farming well, so a smaller counterpart would be nice.

Anyway, was just curious if anyone could answer why there is no build path for it. Thanks!

Because it is an offensive power purchase that is intended to give items an awkward build path.

neither does BF sword

Because it's the AP equivalent of BFS and BFS doesn't need one.

Items that build out of it give people huge powerspikes, so it's more balanced for them to get all that power in big steps that take a while rather than gradually getting it all over time.

NLR and BF Sword are both massive boosts to your damage. They force you to keep up in lane. Backing and returning to lane with a blasting wand or a pickaxe instead of a Needlessly Large Rod or a BF Sword will put you at a disadvantage, and as an AP or AD carry, that's a reasonable trade-off.

In short, it makes your power spikes harder, and it makes you work for them.

Why does BF sword not have a build path? It's only 50 less gold than Needlessly Large, and just provides AD instead of AP....

These items both are used to make high-cost high-reward items less easy to build; you really have to commit to it if you have to drop 1600 on one component. :|
