I sure love watching lcs, showcases the VARIETY of great champs
CLG v TL, same champs 3 games in a row with maybe 2 exceptions. Am i on drugs? Are there no more than 12 champions in the entire game?

Meanwhile 106 out of 110 hero picks in the Dota 2 TI.
Yeah yeah, different games and balance standards, but it does get a tad annoying.
I hate to be the guy, but we aren't going to get a TON of character variety until we got to the number balancing extremes of Dota. With the current way of balancing, there will always be select few champions that do more of what is favorable in the current meta than others. In Dota, there isn't a huge meta, it is more like Meta Vs Meta in one match. It could be Deathball v Rat in the same match. It could be Protect the Carry v Siege in one match. The characters in Dota will always be the very best at what they do and will always be able to say "Hey, if you ever need something like this, I'll be around."
However, this is LoL and thats Dota. The way LoL is just curses itself to have low diversity. The only diverse meta we have seen was really a Meta of Confustion before Worlds when they changed up a TON of stuff and then just threw it at pros and said "What do you think about it?"
Essentially what happened in that series (and in many Bo5s, although to a lesser extent) is that the team that won the previous game was content with their picks and continued picking the same things, while the team that lost thought that the problems were from the match itself and not the pick/ban phase. That leads to both teams not making almost any changes and picking the same things repeatedly. It really isn't a problem, per se, but it can look very boring.
Pros simply don't play enough champs at a high enough level for there to be variety at the pro level.
i used to watch this team called unicorns of love. I think they started the whole hecarim top, and other offmeta picks.
but I think its cool we got SOL.
The reason why this will always be the case is the lack of unique strong niche abilities. There are too many champions that does the same thing and what it comes down to is numbers not abilities. Dota has more unique abilities that has a bigger impact, makes for more diversity and better matches to watch imo. Most new champions and reworks in lol has abilities with somewhat low impact so numbers take over. Also since league lacks hard counters you are free to pick anything with good numbers in LCS, if hard counters would exist, like a B-tier champion would be good because it hard counters this S-tier champion we would also see more diversity. Instead of league being rock paper scissors, it is rock crushes everything, paper can sometimes cover something and scissors cuts nothing.
Bottom line is, League is a great game that also caters to casuals, the price to pay for that is lack of diversity.
That's why Phoenix1 is by far my favorite team haha
NV took some cool picks in playoffs, I don't see much Lee Sin or Kennen, certainly not Lissandra in NA.
lcs is cancer
LCS is just ridiculously boring to Watch when the same champs are being picked every single game. In LCS it exists less than 20 champs in total. Seems legit.
Just opened my client.
Confirmed only 12 champions in the game.
Smurf acct hehe xd
Riot bases there buffs around popularity; At any given time you'll have 3 God Tier champs in a category and the'll base everyone's balance around those best in game champs rather then addressing why those champions are only being picked; Vs those champs you see once in 200 games.
Last weeks flavor of the week not God Tier anymore? Let's bring it back in line rather then touching something that's been unplayable for a year.
Pros can't have mains too?
I love when people make threads like these. There will never be perfect champion balance and nor should there ever be. Having imbalance is better for game design. Also, some champions will always be better than others at certain things. That's fine too. There is this thing called teamcomps. People will pick champions to fit said teamcomp. Low skill-ceiling champions generally aren't played because of how limited they are. High skill-ceiling champions are played because said LCS players can play them to their fullest potential and do a lot with them. That's fine too. Thus, said LCS players will always pick whichever ones fit their teamcomp the best while being able to do the most with them. On another note, perfect diversity means ~0.763% pickrate for every champion. Is that what you want? No, it isn't.
