The idiotic matchmaking system... Want the old draft back! [Also, thoughts on future of LoL]
The new matchmaking system physically hurts.
> However many times I queue up, I usually never get my first role. I also sometimes don't get my SECOND role. > I queue as Mid and Jungle. Guess what I get? ADC. > I queue as Top and Mid. What do I get? Jungle. > I queue as Top and freaking SUPPORT. What do I get? JUNGLE! > Doesn't happen a lot but it still happens. > IDK why they don't match me with the right positions. Is it a bug or does this happen to you guys too?
Honestly I don't know why Riot included this matchmaking system if half the time it doesn't even work. I like to play mid. I know a lot of people do, so I expect a 10 min wait time. I am perfectly fine waiting 10-15 min to play the role I want. But when I get matched after 30sec, then realize I'm not even playing my secondary role, it's like "Why?".
The old draft system was so much better. Sure, you didn't always get the role you wanted and maybe had to fill, but at least you weren't "trolled" into thinking that you were going to play the best Ahri Mid Me but then realize "Oh wait! I'm actually jungle!" People are just less motivated, and aren't giving it their all. And also, in the old draft, people were more reasonable, and sometimes gave up their position to you so you could play the role. But now, you are already assigned roles, so what's the point? It seems like the only way to actually get your role is to be in a full premade team.
This brings me to my second point. The future. Riot is obviously becoming more team-based, strongly encouraging team-making with this new matchmaking system and others. Riot even gives bonus mastery points to parties. Why would they do that?! They should give FEWER points b/c getting matched with strangers and making it work requires a lot more teamwork and skill than playing with people you know. With the new hextech system, chests are gained when you or one of your PARTY members gets S rank. You are very unlikely to get 4 S ranks in a month, so you have to rely on your party to do it. S rank is hard to get, and I mean HARD to get. I went 17/2/2 and got A+. So close, but no S rank. I could be wrong about this, can anyone you play with give you a chest or does it have to be party members? Basically Riot is moving towards a team-or-die kind of game, which will support premade clans or teams more and more until LoL is just a group of competitive teams, basically making it a mini Esports. Who knows what's next? Maybe they'll just remove solo queueing all together...
Only a small percentage of the playerbase is teams. However, they spend the big bucks. Hundreds on tournaments, sometimes every day. THAT is why Riot is moving towards a team-based game. The solo players probably spend less than 10% of the total profits that Riot rakes in. Teams give them money. I am actually sick of games disguised as good games, but if you think about it long and hard, they are really just money vacuums. Basically all supercell games are money vacuums. Actually, most multiplayer games in general are money vaccuums. However, to give credit to LoL, their purchases are fair, their prices are good, and you don't have to pay to progress coughClash Royalecough. Still, they are edging out solo players to try to make more money.
