Highlander should be "You are untargetable unless you used an ability or attack in the last 2 sec"

No attack speed boost. No movement speed boost. No slow immunity. Just the ability to be at the right place at the right time all the time everywhere.

The animation would look similar to alpha strike's shadow images, except he would perpetually leave them behind (they fade fast). The whole "moving so fast you can only see mirages" thing is Yi's design space, and fast doesn't have to mean he outruns a horse. It can mean he is nimble, agile. It can mean even though you can outrun him, you cannot touch him.

Besides it would synergize with meditate (survive for 2 seconds without auto attacking and voila, you are untargetable again). The cooldown of meditate is large enough so that even with 70% resets due to ult, using this trick is expensive and if he's forced to use it he will have to play more passively until he can get an assist.

The counterplay is to counterattack when he attacks, and to zone him off of people by threatening to blow him up the instant he becomes targetable. His gameplay revolves around using the perpetual untargetability to be in the right place at the right time, ready to make the one strike that will win the battle. This is more in line with Yi's identity as a blade master than "I just go real fast".

It gives him options in case his plans don't work out, and it makes him less oppressive when he is crazy fed (he loses so much dps and sticking power with this change). However, it makes him better on average in team fights because he has a way to break aggro and keep it broke. That means that he can afford to put more gold into pure offense if he is snowballing, which counterbalances the loss of damage in his ult.

It more or less becomes a matter of mind games, and mind games are more interesting than "yi has nuf stats, so he wins" or "yi has not nuf stats, so he loses".

What I'm saying is the gameplay for this is deeper than it is for slow immunity and high DPS.

This would be used either purely as an escape mechanic, Pop ultimate and run away while being immune to everything

Or a momentary invulnerability within a team fight.

Yi already has his Q for dodging spells if he uses it right, his ultimate works for him. He just needs the jungle to come back.

Upvoted for being a well-thought out idea, I wish other players put this much thought into their ideas.

I personally do not agree though, but that is only because I admittedly have a bias towards preserving old-school champions (champions from 2009-2010) as much as possible.

Although I really actually like this idea Yi deals his damage primarily though basic attacks. You can't just remove his biggest steroid; his dps would then fall below ranged ADCs. I could see this being a passive component of a reworked W ability instead.

Something like: W: Wuju Reflexes Passive: While Highlander is active, Yi becomes untargettable unless having attacked or used an ability in the last 2 seconds. Active: Yi gains a short burst of movement speed. The duration is doubled if Highlander is active.

And then take off the movespeed portion of Highlander but still let it make him immune to slows, give him attack speed, and refresh his cooldowns.

I really hope you mean a reworked E. Meditation is pretty core to his identity and jungle sustain right now.

Lol it's core for nothing are you insane? He's a facechopping swordsman. Meanwhile you are suggesting removing a major source of his damage for said facechopping.

He would need the movement speed boost imo, its also his escape if he want to split kind of like xin Zhao their kits are 100% offensive but have a defensive ult that helps them disengage, only down side is being vulnerable when ult down.

However the mov speed could decay or be removed if he does attack/use spells on champions. And his invulnerability to slows could also decay.

I really love this idea. However, I still think there can be room for some offensive power in his ult, since untargetables and invulnerabilities are actually pretty easily accessed nowadays (Bard ult, Kayle ult, Fizz trollpole, Vlad trollpool). Here's what I suggest, in addition to all your changes:

For the duration of Highlander, Master Yi's Double Strike passive is always active.

EDIT: Since this wouldn't stack with Yi's existing passive, it may not be as powerful as it sounds. Currently, the rhythm after initiating is 1, 2, Proc, 1, 2, Proc (since the passive procs itself, basically). Thus, the damage in 3 hits is 3 and a half times, or 350% base damage. With Highlander on, this would change to 3 procs all in a row, or 3 and 3 halves, or 4 and 1 half, or 450% base damage. 450/350 = 1.2857143, resulting in about a 29% DPS increase with my proposed addition. By comparison, Live Highlander grants 30/55/80% increased attack speed according to the wiki, which means that at all levels, Live grants rather significantly more damage.

EDIT2: Also, I feel like my addition would possibly open up new builds, since Yi wouldn't necessarily be reliant on attack speed to benefit from his passive anymore. Something like AP on-hit Yi (Lich Bane + Wit's End?) for situational tankiness like classic AP Yi would be awesome.

While I like the idea of the ability, it wouldn't really fit on Yi. When I think of Yi, "moving so fast you can only see mirages" isn't what comes to mind first. Yi's identity (as in, what most players think of him, not his theme) is a really fast, high DPS melee carry with next to no survivability or poke outside of Alpha Strike. Untargetability doesn't really fit that theme at all - it would probably be much better on a dedicated assassin or some kind of tank.

Yes, Yi's current ult doesn't have much gameplay involved. Not everything requires some kind of mind game or epic outplay potential - Yi's Q is already a very deep ability, and his W requires a good amount of decision making to use effectively as well.

He might be on the simpler side as champion kits go, especially with the ridiculous stuff Riot has been releasing lately, but he still has plenty of points of mastery and reasonable counterplay to the point that I don't think he needs any changes.

This change would gut Yi. I've played Yi for 300+ games in high gold elo, which isn't that high, but isn't bronze 5 either. Without attack speed boost on his ult, there's no reason to pick him over any other bruiser or assassin, especially Fizz. He would lose alot of his DPS, defensive slipperiness and offensive slipperiness (due to less Q refreshing). Yi's distinction is a slippery, high sustained damage swordsman that can wreck entire teams if left alone, and hard to pin down in teamfights. Not permanently untargettable.

Right now there's plenty of mind games you can play with Yi if you have fast reflexes. Have you dodged Caitlyn ults with Alpha Strike? Have you used W as an autoattack reset when dueling in the jungle at level 2 or 3 against an invader? Have you dodged point blank Ahri charms because you could predict when she was going to E?
