Proof that 40+ minute games still happen PLUS comebacks from a losing team

Brascus··3 votes·975 views

I gave my team an early head start plugging lanes when team mates fell over, enter mid game my team started making a lot of silly mistakes, come late game it looked like we were through, 2 inhibitors down, 2 nexus turrets down we were at our death throes. But persist as we did, we rallied at our nexus and beat them off and when they went for baron we got them with their pants down. Even though they got the buff we made corpses of them all and rushed mid to nexus in one fell swoop.

My team never gave up, Bliz got a lil aggravated at times but all in all we kept calm and carried on. People who give up too soon never get the chance to come back, so even if things look sour early towers fall fast on both sides.

I found a rock in a pond. Therefore, all rocks are from ponds.

It goes both ways, but it's not on the hate wagon so nevermind

This is the most non-logic argument ever... this literally can be used to argue anything even something that is true.

I don't think you understand the implication. The statement "I found a rock in a pond, therefore all rocks are from ponds" means you drew conclusions without sufficient evidence. A sample size of exactly one game was provided. No conclusions can be reasonably drawn from that.

No i understand what it means, i am saying that it can be used to argue anything. So there is no point in even saying it, obviously the OP was not basing their entire opinion on just this one game, merely showing one example. Besides the same can be said about the opposite argument. Its only been a few days, this is a very small sample size for what this patch is about. Even if 1000 games were played its still small because its new, in about 2 weeks you are going to see the average length of games increase until OP's 40min game because the norm. Then your already invalid statement will be even more invalid.

It doesn't matter what he's drawing his conclusion on. What matters is that his argument is flawed because he presented a sample size of one. We, the readers, do not have any more information than he has provided. If he has a larger sample size, he should have provided it. I can only judge his argument based upon what he has provided, and what he has provided is insufficient to support any conclusions.

"The same could be said for the opposite" argument would be valid if I in any shape way or form implied that the opposite of what the OP said is true. I did not. I merely said his argument was a bad one.

because using your own experiences and thinking for yourself is impossible? do you not play this game? do you not have an opinion based on your experience with the new patch? Perhaps the OP figured they were not the only one who had 40+ min games and by showing one prove they exist and that it is not a fluke if others are having similar experiences?

See people should try to think for themselves instead of this stupid circlejerk crap that currently goes on.

The reason I made the comment is because it's fallacious to draw conclusions when you don't have enough evidence. He literally indicated in the title of the thread that this is PROOF of longer game times. That immediately elevates the thread to a higher level where they need to meet a burden of proof.

If he had named the thread "I Am Experiencing Longer Game Times" then cited his game as an example to consult others, I would've said that my experiences are somewhat consistent with this but are usually in the 30-35 minute range.

However, this is also not showing the bigger picture. Game times show when a game was ended, but didn't show when a match is decided. When people say the game is over in X minutes, what they often times actually mean is that they are beyond the hope of recovering the game unless the enemy throws by the X minute mark, not that the game actually ended at X minutes.

Ultimately, what he posted is both a hasty generalization and is anecdotal. In the grand scheme, the outcome of one game is just inconsequential.

The reason I even wrote the comment is because his thread is arguing against some nonsensical argument that doesn't exist. Nobody says comebacks never happen, and the implication that comebacks still can happen with any frequency is a bad one.

Ooohhh one game so much proof

We can't all just post every game that disproves the complaints. It's a waste of time and effort.

My match history:

44:23 minutes PVP 39:45 minutes PVP 32:47 minutes PVP 20:24 minutes PVP 29:43 minutes PVP 19:34 minutes AI 16:41 minutes AI 36:33 minutes PvP 38:07 minutes PvP 16:46 minutes AI

The only short matches I have are in bot matches, the correlation being that if you're losing sub 20:00 minutes then you're performing worse than bots : /

Games last a long time, yes, but do they ever truly have a chance of comebacks? I mean, a game can go on for an hour or more but that could just mean you're holding out for the inevitable. Lanes snowball so hard now its like it doesn't even matter how long you carry it out, its inevitable they're going to win. Only rarely do you get a game like you described.

39:38 was a close game all game until the end where our teamwork (and Yasuo) won us a teamfight.
38:56 we lost pretty hard but we almost came back with our EZ
24:40 we lost yasuo OP
26:16 we lost graves OP and Nunu ADC is not a thing
52:46 was not close and was indeed a huge comeback for us, in fact they still had a lead on us when we took the nexus... 30:01 was close but Shen OP lol
31:41 close we barely lost, it was actually a comeback for them
42:11 a huge comeback for the enemy team

you get the picture... a lot of these games are comebacks for either team or close to one.

Damn, you're lucky. GIVE ME YOUR MATCHMAKING DAMMIT

Seriously though, all of my matches are decided at like 10 minutes when anyone who's OP is fed or if there's no one really that OP, just whoever's fed. q.q

FacerollKatarina2 votes

No ones saying its impossible to happen but it is 10x as unlikely now

Brascus3 votes

I'd say it's more unlikely for teams that rage quit or get demoralized easily

FacerollKatarina2 votes

Or when the enemy team has a yasuo with 100% crit at 15 mins and a graves who is 6-1 in botlane. Turrets are too easy to meltdown and when someone gets a lead they can snowball the shit out of it.

Brascus3 votes

Theres no contest that graves and yas are too strong right now but I still don't find it a legit excuse to give up because anyone can snowball when they get ahead, that's when you change tactics to subversion > vision + split push.

Edit: Especially now when roaming can become very costly even if you're ahead.

You are the people I hate in lol. Losing 2-25 with 0-8 towers down and you won't surrender no matter what. That's when I get pissed and start yelling then get reported.

I never surrender except in a few rare extreme circumstances where there's more to it than just the game situation but there's a reason to surrender because of a player. My thing is as long as someone else clicks no they still want that long shot, I vote last so there's no overlap on that methodology.

Stephenizgod2 votes

wth but they won... you would have surrendered but this guy won... so who is the real problem here?

low elo normal. irrelevant.

Brascus1 votes

Are silver, gold + plat part of low elo? I keep getting them in my games, on both sides, so this is irrelevant for diamond and challenger then? Even though most players are bronze + silver?

Brascus1 votes

Your match history also has plenty of 30-40+ minute matches

Mr Malrin1 votes

Malzahar eats Yasuo

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

No offence bud but it's because of your elo.

I am speaking from experience when I say that low elo teams are poorly coordinated and usually prefer to farm kills than actually win. One of my friends in low bronze has an average game time of around 45 minutes.

Brascus1 votes

I get silver to plat players in my games on both teams shrug

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

Silver to gold is still low elo. There are plenty of golds who still make obvious mistakes that a silver scrub like me wouldn't (not that all golds are bad). Plat is usually better, but you aren't going to get more than 1 or 2 of those per game if you're still playing with silvers.

Brascus1 votes

Also 3 of your 4 last games were almost at or over 40 minutes, so really pulling the ELO card is just a display of your true quality

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

When I say "speaking from that experience", does that not acknowledge that I know I am in low elo?

If I showed you a picture of a horse with a horn on the head would you say that it's proof of unicorns? I've had an ARAM game go almost an hour but that's ONE match out of close to 2,000 putting it at about .0005% of my matches. Yes, it can happen, but it's easier to find pictures of unicorns.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Yea you are going to get downvoted, this goes against the circlejerk and therefore its bad... Truth? Fuck that shit i just want to complain and whine and ignore facts and reason! YEAH! DOWN WITH RITO!!

most of my games for the past few days have been above 35 minutes... people are figuring out what to do and what not to do, you just need to give shit a few days before everything falls into place. Anyone trying to prove that many of the complaints are nothing more than lack of knowledge and understanding will be downvoted into oblivion and insulted with every possible insult known to mankind, maybe even a few unknown ones...

Reaper Soraka1 votes

I only have 13 games in the new patch, so I'll only match it to the 13 games just before. That way, although it is a small sample, the elos or whatever will still be somewhat close. All games taken for this sample are from unranked draft pick. The games (by op.gg) seem to be around 1400-1600 mmr.

Before the update:

Minutes in-game over 13 games: 425:27 ----- An average of 32 minutes and 42 seconds per game. Shortest game: 20:20 Longest game: 47:19

After the update:

Minutes in-game over 13 games: 380:42 ----- An average of 29 minutes and 15 seconds per game. Shortest game: 17:09 Longest game: 42:39

I wish I had more games to give a stronger case; I bet that it would show games are ending earlier. Unfortunately, I don't have much fun in the current state of the game. I'll wait a couple patches, and hopefully pick up my wins of the day until something changes.
