"Split-pusher cost us the game, wouldn't group up for team fights"

You shouldn't be in team fights when someone on your team is split-pushing in the first place. You're the one to blame.

Depends on the situation. If the team is trying to push minions out of the base and one runs off to split push without warning and leaves the team to a 4v5 and losing the nexus while he only takes a turret, then there's a problem.

Had people do this and then claim they couldn't carry the team, nub.

true, until late game. there is no good reason to keep split pushing when the game is at the point where towers don't matter and one team fight decides it all.

Agreed to an extent. If ahead usually grouping is more advantageous for obvious reasons, if behind splitting can more more advantageous because it lets your team defend/contest an objective while you get another objective leaving the enemy team to send back (a) champion(s) to stop you.

I will agree that in late game, split pushing loses any sort of edge and can be detrimental to the team.

However during mid game split pushing is at its most viable yet people still want to engage in 4v5 teamfights instead of just letting the guy split push.

I would say split pushing is good until you lose inhib turrets... then you should probably stop trying it.
