Assassin Support META FTW?
Hello Internet and welcome to league theory!
I haven't posted in a while and I've been thinking about this for a long time so I'm posting now.
I will get straight to the point. "Why don't people play assassin champs as support?"
I know it sounds crazy but hear me out.
Playing assassins as support makes a lot of sense to me. I started thinking of this when i was playing a lot of support a few weeks ago and there were many games where I felt I couldn't carry the game effectively, especially, when my team was behind. My ADCs were constantly focused down and weren't in lane due to all their deaths. Also because they weren't in lane the enemy would always keep pushing lane and eventually get tower. Farming is actually hard for people in lower elos and, when you factor the under tower part and the 2v1 scenario, as a support it's even harder. Here I noticed that there was a lot of gold that was going to waste. Trying to zone off the enemy I also kept finding myself without mana and even more useless in those early game skirmishes. As I said this kept recurring and I found myself in a fix that needed fixing. So I thought and thought and I thought. I needed a champion who, could provide early game pressure, didn't need mana, could wave clear easily with, actually scared the enemy team so they had to choose between prioritising you or the adc and have pressure under tower, for both diving and defending. Clearly only one champ came to mind to me and that was my main man Zed.
Zed fulfilled all those needs. So I jumped into a game asked my team if they minded a zed support and went for it. Bought me a relic shield and pots and went down bot lane. My adc died first blood and he was out of lane. Farming was easy as zed's passive helps with that and for the first time I was the one who had pushed out the lane and got some turret damage. 2v1 too.
Next best thing is this was only the early game.
What does every character do early game? FARM wait did I say every character? Lol my bad. SUPPORTS DON'T FARM.
zed has crazy range and burst and most adcs don't have much mobility, are really squishy and don't expect so much damage early game. So they have to choose between being chunked off By the combo or miss farm. Either way is win-win. So you apply more pressure in lane. Your adc is just going to be farming in the back line and all you have to do to protect him is ward the brush. You don't really need to take the kill, you can chunk them down so hard a few auto attacks from your adc and they will die. And even if you do you're going to be an even bigger threat. You can use this strategy to even get mid lane fed as assassin roams are crazy as it is. Pushing down towers in lane without your adc is also possible and more effective resulting in faster taking of towers and objectives. Also with the mobility, getting away from gank is also easier and ensures you don't die as much as well. As with items, finish up eye of the equinox and get a black cleaver first item. And you're going to be doing some insane peeling and damage amplification for your adc. After a ninja tabi and some situational items. You should be seeing a nice big victory screen.
This strategy works most effectively when you can transfer the carrying from your early game assassin to your late game adc so there is a force to be reckoned with all through the game.
They all provide cc to protect well being able to roam even roam into the enemy jungle to steal or deep ward.

don't have that benefit they live on gold to be useful , xin does, but he has a powerful cheese early so i included him with his ult.
eve nunu amazing counter jungle with smite and roaming for support, doesn't spend much time in lane, however it makes the adc level faster well putting enemy jungler behind and can assassinate for the most. Syndra spam balls and ult isn't amazing, but effective. Camille niche locking, used to have the nice heal shield slow idk anymore tbh.
Not exactly an assassin, but stack Q's for harass and profit with ult, kill those pesky zed's trying to tower dive ur jinx.
