If Jhin MUST go bot, who would best support him?

Occams Raiser··8 votes·298,711 views

I have only laned with him once or twice and found him to be wanting in the laning department. You know the old MEME, their Jhin (beast) vs. OUR Jhin (pussycat). But even laning against him i found the ability to be marked by the support to be the most troubling thing. IT is like being double rooted. Short of that, I think he is Highly gankable and a jungler should have a field day with him. SO I figure a good supp for him should be someone with good peel. I don't think we will be seeing him in kill lanes from what I have seen.

What are your opinions?

Hey Occams Raiser,

So I love Jhin, I do not think he's being used to his fullest potential but he opens a lot of windows to lanes. With Morgana, she can use W and Jhin can then snare which would lead into a Morgana snare and it gets really punishing. Same with a Nami bounce heal it can give Jhin great poke. They both also have great peel as a black shield and Nami is a peel factory. Let me know if you can come up with some great combos also.

Agree with the red. If your teams need more tankiness, I think Leona and Nautilus are pretty good.

Braum works well too

Honestly, he's probably going to be better solo lane or jungle when used to his fullest right now. That's something I kind of like, because he's awesome and I hate playing ADC.

In this meta a low DPS carry doesn't really seem to have a place, looking at Sivir for an example, and his damage profile is just so bursty and conditional, I don't know if a duo lane will work the way he is now. At least not with the way teams are currently being drafted.

Two threat teams just seem to do better, but non-adc carries seem to get hit as they pop up so that may change as there become fewer toplane carry options that aren't ADC's with safe or strong lane phases.

Hey now, an ADC does not mean bot lane :P

Jhin is going to function relatively the same, and can serve the same role in a team no matter where he goes. Do you just hate duo lanes in general? It seems like a lot of marksman are being made/remade so they can function solo, so we players can start moving away from the whole "bot=ADC" mentality.

I can see some AP champions working bot, but nobody wants to try.

Nagoh Shan1 votes

I mostly meant duo lanes, yeah.

Pre-rework Quinn top was the champ I picked up after I stopped playing Sion, and Viktor got popular so I rarely got him. I like ADCs, but prefer the self-sufficient solo lane play. If I can have both I'm usually pretty giddy.

With Jhin's range and traps, he can have that, but sacrifices a layer of multiplicative scaling to do that. Scaling that duo lane carries are needed for and depend on.

I've been saying this for some time. EX: Tryndamere is an ADC. Tryndamere would not be good in bot lane.

I found Alistar and Jhin to be a crazy combo. Alistar knocks them up, Jhin snares and then Alistar knocks them back. A combo which does about 1/2-3/4 of their HP and works really well.

Bard. Because Bard is the best support.

Idk, but I could see Zyra doing really well with him. Chain CC into crazy damage, Zyra's plants making to damage while he's reloading, etc.

Strong Damage lane for sure except it's very gankable. Both of these champs are very low mobility. I will say, however; if you get good river coverage with traps/plants you get tons of free wards making ganks difficult to pull off. Also, if you get behind on this lane I wish you good luck. It will be a snowball of tower dives and there will be nothing you can do.

I've seen Nautilus work well, Braum probably would too. People to take advantage of his snare.

Old Man Teeto5 votes

As someone who laned Braum with Jhin.... it's pretty bad.

Jhin can't proc the passive stun that easily because he attacks so slow which is like 90% of Braum laning.

Braum however is amazing AGAINST Jhin. Blocking everything, W to jump out of traps/W/onto Jhin, R to stop his ultimate, or E to block everything. Did I mention blocking everything?

I wonder who gave you the negative vote.. hes just asking a question lol.. This is why league community is cancer, but imo thresh can save him from a lot of problems.

My friend tried Jinx Teemo just for fun, and it looked pretty fun haha, shrooms and traps everywhere, not to mention they were invisible.. cancer haha

The following supports work well with Jhin(from my experience):

Braum(Q slow makes it easier to snare) Nami(Q+Heal makes it easy to snare of follow up) Bard(Stun/slow gives you enough time to snare) Most supports that has a hook/pull and/or a knock up(Thresh, Nautilus, Blitzcrank, etc.) Maokai(Root makes it much easier to snare) Taric(Stun+Jhin's W= An easy snare) Zyra(Root makes it easy to snare) Trundle(AoE slow makes it very easy to snare) And finally The unforgettable. TahmKench

-A Support Main who plays Jhin from time to time.

I agree with these...

I'd perhaps also might add Poppy and Gragas

Well as you said he is highly gankable so easiest choices would be Nami, Janna, Nautilus, Tahm Kench, Morgana or Alistar. Basically, those supports that spam laugh after jungler fails 7th time in a row to gank into their disengage.

Blumpkin Nation2 votes

Thresh. He can keep the lock downs with his Q/E/R for Jihn's snare or ult if need be.

Nami's pretty good.

I have played a lot of jhin and here are my thoughts on the following supports that I have played with: Bard is not bad. His heal/speedup is very good for jhin and as always bard's ult is game changer. Blitzcrank is very good. Unfortunately the only game I played with blitz our jungler decide to troll because I picked jhin.... You set up a trap under blitz, blitz waits on it, pulls someone, you w, person dies. It is pretty funny. Braum is not as bad as you would expect. Braum himself will generally apply 2 stacks of his passive so you can usually proc the passive. It will be extended fight so if you playing jhin you will need to have some good decision making when playing with braum. Would not recommend playing whith braum unless you have a few games as jhin already. Janna is ok. I personally don't particularly like janna support. The shield and peel is nice but it just feels lackluster. Leona is not bad. Provides a good engage for you. However doesn't provide any peel. In an all in situation 2v2, she is pretty good with jhin. However jhin won't be able to proc leona's passive effectively (like most adc's, unless you are corki). Morgana is pretty good. Morgana has an obvious synergy with jhin. Double snare is pretty powerful. And she provides peel when needed. Nami is very good. I might be a little biased because nami is my favourite support to play but jhin and nami is very strong. She provides everything jhin needs, speed ups, heals, poke, hard engage, and a hard disengage. Nautilus is very good. I played one game with him and we reeked. It was so strong I felt bad for the vayne/nami lane we went against. On a side note, you do not want to play jhin vs a naut support. Soraka is a Soraka. She is going to heal you..... that's pretty much it. Oh and right, there are some nice plays with her silence and your w. She silences them and you root right away. Taric is actually pretty good. His stun is impossible to miss and he provides you with a heal and surprising amount of damage. Thresh is okay I think. I didn't lane with a good thresh yet, but from the ones I laned with it seems pretty good. I mean he provides lots of cc to chain with your w so he should be pretty good, as long as he lands hooks. Zilean is pretty good. I liked laning with him. The speed up is pretty nice and his ult is still probably the best ult in the game.

TLDR Blitzcrank Nami and Nautilus are my favourite supports for him.

Sorry for my terrible English.

I used to main Janna . In her current state, I would be afraid to take her to lane at all.

Fanny Forecast2 votes

Explain why? She's still very efficient, has the highest pick rate (behind Thresh) and highest win rate in the support role. She is FAR from being able to carry, but her kit allows her to make plays, reset fights, or prevent plays from being made. She just lacks damage, which is made up for with her damage-by-proxy.

Kaeblen1 votes

She's far from unplayable. I know very well how good she can be.

For myself, I never really recovered after they nerfed the range (and width) on her Q. (it now has to charge up before it has its full range)

I used to rely on that ridiculously long range, along with her shield and high MS, to constantly harass my lane opponents, and alow my adc to farm safely, with zero worries. Arguably, I might have also been overextending and relying on Janna's great disengage to not be punished for it.

I'd currently be afraid to lane with her, not because she is bad (she's not) but because I know my former playstyle wouldn't work. In context to this, my original comment was probably very misleading.

Champion Skin1 votes

Taric have pretty much always dealt a decent amount of damage though he also always have had a hard time dealing that damage because of his short range and lack of mobility

Though for some reason people never seem to expect it

Uiraya1 votes

Janna main here; I dodge when my team picks him.

Whether or not he's any good, it's too damn early for people to be playing him in ranked. Buuuut I haven't lost a game against one without an afk, so...

Looking forward to the ridiculous overbuffs he gets which will likely put him in ban status for a while!

(SPOILERS: RANK FIVE MASTERY RANKED REQUIREMENT AND MONTH RANKED BAN FOR NEW CHAMPS ARE GOOD IDEAS)

Occams Raiser2 votes

I would agree with the Month ban on new champs but mastery requirements would make it hard to have 16 mastered champs. But it would be a lost of practice.

ProfDrDeath2 votes

Why not combine the mastery requirement and the ranked ban?

A new champion cannot be picked in ranked for the first two weeks, except if the person who wants to pick him has reached rank 3 in mastery with them already. Or is in a full premade.

Jhin is Trash!! He is to easy to kill no support can protect him...

you can say the same thing about any ADC...thats the supports job. keep them alive and/or make openings.

I beg to differ, there are many self-sufficient ADCs:

definitely someone who can peel him and keep him healthy. i'd say try to stay away from just full dmg supports (a.k.a Brand ). Jhin is extremely squish and has short range, so it's very easy to poke him. i went MissFortune /Nami bot lane against a Jhin last night and the poor dude couldn't even farm because we just walked up and harassed him everytime he tried

Fyreshot13371 votes

Brand works great. Combos well and has great poke. Pillar the back 3 mobs, then hit with Jhins grenade. Bounces and kills all 3 then does big Dmg to champ. Great early lane.

Meep Man1 votes

I would say Nami is a decent pick. Gives great crowd control, sustain, and enhances your limited basic attack combo further. Morgana is a nice one too, but I find that when a Jhin has healing that his early game is much more reliable.

Ruin Lance1 votes

nautilus, janna maybe. someone with really good disengage.

OHG WICKED1 votes

i think Lux and Jhin harmonize extremely well. where both share both a root and a slow. and long range harass with ults.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

Morgana is a very good one. The chain snare is so brutally awesome.

Milodic Mellodi1 votes

Morgana, Blitzcrank, Thresh, Lux, Shaco, Sona, and Zyra off the top of my head.

DeloricVI1 votes

Well, Jhin has good poke, so he goes well with poke supports, however this presents the problem you mentioned before: he has no escape.

This is why a kill lane is where Jhin would probably be more at home. You may be thinking, "A kill lane, isn't that even more risky?" Well, actually... not really. Most supports that make for a good kill lane partner have cc to lock people down with. Just take Leona for example; her whole KIT is cc. So, Leona is good, Morgana is pretty good, Lux, Annie, maybe Blitzcrank... all of those ought to be good with Jhin because they have some peel for him, and can lock people down and force them to take massive damage to the face, and while they're busy being tossed around, this cc is going to mark them, so Jhin can combo cc them in place for a million fucking years, so I'd say good comp. Oh, yeah, don't forget Janna in the list of viable supports for Jhin.

Munqittaja1 votes

Leona might be best for jhin becaus she can attack behind minions.

FFv Potato1 votes

The best support for Jhin is no doubt Alistar because jhin will never miss his root with alistar's engage. Not to mention alistar cannot die when he reaches lvl 6.

RedMilan021 votes

Leona works RLLY good with jhin

I laned against a Jhin Brand the other day... that was cancer. they did so much damage it was ridiculous.

GuillaumeDufay1 votes

I find Jhin to be in the supporting role. Am I the only one? His q makes it easier for the adc to last hit. his w is a root, enough said. his e is such a utility ability. You can get vision, you can kite if ever needed (it slows enemies in the flower), you can slow enemies in team fights. and his ult has an 80% slow, 80% on champions hit. if you build tank, you do enough damage and cc to actually support the team, but is semi-hard to kill, compared to squishy as hell adc Jhin.

Me and my friend play as me Jhin and him Blitz. It works pretty well, the grapple and stun can be really helpful, especially if you cut off a good escape with your captive audience. We have only lost once out of 8 games.

LetsGoJoeMyBro1 votes

In my opinion prob. the best support I played w/ was a Blitzcrank, he can pull their adc for a quick kill, and when you're reloading he can kill them by ulting and if that doesn't kill them, using his E and knocking them up.

GarbageSama1 votes

I've played shaco with jhin and I don't know if it's the strongest one, but it's so fun, with all the boxes and jhin traps, literally they can't gank you, and if they try then free gold

If you want a good support for Jhin ( the sexy boi ) that even better than those piece of shit Thresh, and Nami then you better go Four
