Conducting an experiment on Brand support, give critque below

So seeing how strong Deathfire Touch is with Brand and how he's a pretty strong support because of the huge damage he can deal out, I was thinking of different ways to start him as support.

So the first thing I thought was to completely forego the support item and to grab amplifying tome or something else. But that didn't seem to be too effective.

However I realized that with corrupting potion and ignite, you can deal out tons of early game damage for potentially a first blood, then back to grab that supporting item you need. However I need the opinion of the players if this is a viable start or not. You get 3 charges of corrupting potion which gives mana and health, and a little bit more extra damage to your passive (albeit reduced due to it being DoT) but I'm curious to wonder if starting ignite/corrupting potion is a more viable start for Brand support.

While I am aware of the risks of such things. Like, if you don't get that first blood, or even worse, you die. You'll be scraping the plate for gold to try and keep up with the other support who's that much closer to finishing their support item. It's certainly a risky start, but I'm wondering if it's a risk worth taking. Because if you DO get that first blood, you can easily back, buy your support item and just continue right on track, moving onward with the rest of your laning phase, but now with a corrupting potion to help give that little extra damage.

Is this a viable start? Or is this just a gimmicky way to play and probably just something you'd do with a group of 4 friends in normals?

If I were smart enough, I could probably work out the math myself.... But I'm not! :D Heimerdinger

Edit: What the question is basically is, what start deals the most possible early game damage for harrassing with your passive.

Amplifying Tome + Ignite Supporting Item + Ignite Corrupting Potion + Ignite.

I've never tried running ignite on Brand support, but I couldn't ever imagine taking corrupting over Spellthiefs. Spellthiefs gives and absurd amount of gold generation, and more damage dealt over time.

Expect Corrupting potion to deal roughly 51 damage over the three charges. Expect Spellthief's to deal 10 additional damage every 15 seconds.

I'd skip corrupting potion. Maybe Ignite is alright, but I personally love my Exhaust.

You can erase ignite, spell base damage and brands passive from the equation because they are present in all cases (wow math is cool). Assume you take W level 1 and smack em with 1 spell. Incoming lazy math:

-Corrupting potion is halved on DoT abilities. It will give you 8 bonus damage at lvl 1. -Amplifying tome adds 9 damage to W. -Spellthiefs edge adds 3 damage to W. plus they will take 30 true damage from the passive and stacks.

Assume Level 2 and you smack em with a W and Q

-Corrupting potion overlaps with itself. Deals 15 -20 damage -Amplifying tome gives 19 damage -Spellthiefs edge adds 6 damage from AP scaling and 10 damage from a stack (16 -26 damage)

TLDR:

-Brands AP scaling is bad so amplifying tome doesn't do much. -Corrupting potion is weak on brand Because of DOT and AOE -Spellthiefs edge does the most damage, and is more consistent

Thanks! Now I know! :D

Not to mention you get a bunch of gold. Even without taking the gold into account, you're showing that spellthiefs is better. Add in the gold earned and it's no contest.

Spellthief's gives brand more damage to to passive ticks procing the damage and gold.
