Swain is probably the best champion to learn for beginners

IMO for whoever is just starting out with League and has no idea about management of anything outside their champion in itself, Swain feels like the best character to start with.

  • He has built-in Mana-sustain that can be managed and controlled accordingly to your own playstyle and your ability to CS. Learning to CS with him is, in a sense, easier because it ties together with managing your mana as well, so he has basically Visual controll of how good you can CS before each back in the earlygame

  • He has built-in Vision with a stupendously long range which also is a very rewarding nuke of a skillshot if you can land it properly. It is also a great initiating tool or good for catching someone during an escape to choke them out with a devastating slow, allowing your ally to get the kill.

  • His E Is obviously good CD but it is also a skill that has a really deceptive range, and if used properly, can appear "Invisible" on it's way back if you manage to hit the last units it hits with precisely the tip where it turns around to come back to you. The same thing can be done with Ahri's Q, allowing you to proc both damage ticks in the same frame that SHOULD only tick one. It is great for getting in touch with skills that have a more inaccurate indicator compared to their hitbox.

  • His Ultimate is perfect for teamfight-management. During it's charge, you have the ability to build up all the 5 fragments if you don't have them already, and good positioning rewards you with a very annoying to deal with heal that also damages. The Nuke it offers, after enough charging have been done, also ties in directly with his positioning. Just like Vlad's E, Swain cannot hit 2 champions or minions if one is perfectly hidden behind the other in terms of hitbox, so lining your enemies to basically surround you, without killing yourself in the process, is the kind of high-risk high-reward that pays off to learn because that is something that at some point is going to be needed across almost all champions in the game.

  • He has built-on dialogues that give you an oversight over progress on gold lead and turret lead. Whenever your team and the enemy team tie, your team leads or the enemy team leads, he speaks a different set of quotes after he leaves base from a respawn or back. It is really good if you can't tell by yourself how your team and the enemy team stand with each others if no turrets have been broken yet.

IMO Swain should become part of the selectable champs in the Tutorial fights because he is downright amazing for picking up vision, objective control, mid to long range initiation, CSing control and positioning during teamfights and not to forget that he offers a very easy means of controlling if and at which point your team has gotten ahead or behind on the enemy team.

Far as I can tell he would be excellent as a beginners champion. His own difficulty and strongly scaling damage are also decent for controlling how smooth/Fast you are transitioning from early to midgame and from midgame to lategame.

I think Swain is a bit more forgiving compared to other champions, but the older, lower BE champions like Amumu, Annie, Garen, etc. tend to still be easier to pick up and can be taken a little bit farther in shorter amounts of time.

They all teach fundamentals and are a lot more forgiving which I think is the biggest attraction :p

I do agree. Amumu, Annie, Garen, Veigar, Warwick and stuff are very easy, forgiving and noob-friendly too, but I do believe, based on what he can offer, that Swain could go amongst this list. Yes, he is not an easy champion, but he offers both fundamental basics as well as some indepth for almost every piece of mechanical knowledge you need for this game.

Like hell he is. No rework is worth picking up, especially at start.

So you think JUST because he is a rework that all the facts are invalidated?

Have you even read the post?

Swain is super techy compared to some champs, particularly the positioning on his E, and the ability to passthrough minions on his Q. If you don't know what you're doing you'll waste Q on a full melee minion, shoot E into a minion cloud behind a champion, and so forth.

Yes he's a very amazing champion to teach some good fundamentals about the game on but I can't agree that he's a good beginner champ.

I think Brand may be a bit more forgiving as an "intro mage".

I do agree that a greater breadth of champs to choose from in the tutorial is not a terrible idea though.
