Would this champion passive be op?

Gains an extra item slot at 6/12/18.

TBH, if this champ manages to get 3 extra items then you guys did a terrible job in laning or let the game go on for an hour. He/she can't even USE the passive for the majority of the game.

Would it be OP? Probably not. Would it be annoying? Absolutely. You're playing against a time bomb in the truest sense. If you went against them, they would just be absolutely the strongest in pretty much every stat come late game. I would build to have more autoattack damage than anyone while being tankier than anyone except a pure tank. I could have the strongest abilities by far. It's already annoying playing against someone like Veigar or Nasus or Vayne or Poppy if you know you'll be outscaled and will lose options as the game goes on, but he'd be even worse because his scaling is just sooooo out of line.

Of course, it could be annoying for the guy with the passive too, because he's going to have to be balanced around being weak up until the point where he gets those items so that his guaranteed win late game isn't too strong. Being weak for that long is never very fun.

Overall, I'd say it wouldn't be OP, but it also isn't worth putting in the game. It would be more irritating than fun in most situations. The only gameplay it offers is "beat me before X minutes or I'll win off of pure stats", and that's just not very interesting.

Also, I don't see much of a point of giving them extra item slots at 6, 12 and 18. They'll be fully leveled before they get to use the extra slots. Might as well just give them all the item slots at once.

It would only be useful in 40-60 minute games and no one wants games to last that long

Well we can cater to everyone's tastes. This champ would be a ticking time bomb but truely balanced (or underpowered=good) in the sense that it's not vayne destroying you at one item.

It would complicate keybindings (since you would have several only relevant for one champion), the UI, and it wouldn't be that useful for most of the game.

I wouldn't bother with it; it's not that good of a concept.

Though for laning dominance, you could purchase 4-6 Doran's Blades/Rings. By the time you want to buy more items, you have a slot or two free. You won't have to sell them for a long while either.

Do you really want to see a 2000 ap veigar?

the games would have to go long for this to get way too op, for example, I get about 3-4 items done a game

This isn't veigar and if you let he/she get that many items something is wrong. You can't capitalize on that much ap until either 40-50 min (why not win before he/she spikes?) or at that point he/she hypercarries after all the abuse in the game. Isn't that fair?

This gave me an idea that might be more relevant to game length. If the champions spells behaved a bit differently based on what type of item was in a specific slot.

EG: q is some form of skill shot with average damage scaling and cd

  • having a utility item like boots or sightstone in the first item slot would either reduce the cd or cost of the spell
  • having an offensive item would increase the scaling
  • having a defensive item would increase the base damage

Something like that could be a lot of fun

Depends on the rest of the kit. Give this to champions likeAzir Lissandra Vayne and its more OP than a release Xin with both Sated Devourer and Feral Flare and League of Cleaver BC. His spells would have to be rather weak to balance the passive out.

In a vacuum this passive is certainly powerful, but I feel it still falls short of some existing passives. Because it doesn't matter until much later in the game, early game passives and overloaded passives are much more powerful. Again this is all in a vacuum, in other words comparing only passives ignoring kits.

A champion with this as a passive would need to have no early kill pressure, think Nasus or Poppy. This champion would almost certainly be a hyper carry in some facet so they need to work to get to use their passive for extra completed items. That said this passive likely starts becoming relevant once 4 items are completed. Building expensive items as fifth or sixth items is a lot easier when you still have 3 empty item slots. This allows you to easily build triforce, deathcap or infinity edge at this point without having to horde 2000+ gold.

IDK sounds like it'd be broken late game
