Old Karma Mains, It's Not Changing. Leave the Game & Stop Supporting Riot

With the recent posts from Riot NeuroCat and the fact that Meddler and Reav3s refuse to acknowledge Old Karma mains in any capacity, it's time to move on and be done with the game. Stop supporting this game and move on to someone else or play another game where you will be appreciated. The dedicated and passionate community that helped Riot build this game and stuck with them through thick and thin, no longer matters to them. We all have been patient for way too long and it is clearly evident that every single Developer will say one thing, but do something completely different.

Two months ago we were promised a revert and a Kog'Maw/LeBlanc level rework. What Karma mains received was a definitive answer to what type of League of Legends player these Developers are catering to. Karma is a Support that relies heavily on allies to function as a champion because Riot Games Developers refuse to add more damage options into her kit, actually work on how her current abilities could better function as a Mage and not as a Support, find a unique gameplay identity that caters to both Support and Mage Karma, and find a compromise that both Old and New Karma players are willing to be happy with. These changes to Karma cater entirely to Support Karma and New Players, because every idea and suggestion that was given to the Developer working on her was ignored. Every Developer that has worked on Karma has shown a complete lack of understanding of the divide they themselves created between Old and New Karma mains.

Karma is a Support that sits in the backline giving mass AoE shields with Mantra Defiance and refreshing the cooldowns of her allies (how original when it already exists on Iron Locket of Solari). Her only damage move is blocked by minions and the second tick of damage is completely invalidated as a second source of damage or even utility. This is all because Riot Games wants to place a Gimmick on a champion over actually having a gameplay identity that everyone will be happy with.

The Karma players who Riot Games values:

  1. The Karma player that joined League of Legends 1 to 2 years ago and played Karma when her Mantra Defiance was overbuffed, the Ardent Sensor and shielding meta was overpowered, and when they balanced her and considered only the Support side of her.

The Karma players who Riot Games devalues:

  1. The Karma players who were excited about a potential relaunch of their favorite champion in 2013, to have her be worked on by an inexperienced Developer that took away everything that was beloved about her. Then Riot continued to trend by removing more and more from Karma to continue to ignore pleas and mature discussions to bring back things like her fans, dress, Shield Bomb, identity as a mage, finish animations and a poorly executed visual update, and so much more. These are the same players that have been tirelessly fighting for a champion that no Developer clearly cares about for the past 5 years, when one champion gets multiple reworks/VGU over the years, popular champions are constantly being prioritized for unique skin concepts and massive reworks, and lies and excuses as to why one champion can be blatantly ignored for 5 years.

If you are a Karma main around the time of her relaunch, all of your opinions and ideas are devauled because of a Karma player that joined League of Legends 1 to 2 years ago.

So I am saying this now and feel free to downvote me if you want. Riot Games Developers are basically saying they are proud of a champion with the following problems and role they are making decisions for:

  1. No gameplay identity.
  2. The Mage side of Karma is completely ignored despite proof before the relaunch she was actually successful and more fun to play as a Mage with interactive abilities on allies. A simple numbers buff doesn't address the fact that she is constantly buffed and catered to around the Support role. The new rework all but confirms that Riot Games is willing to sacrifice an entire side of Karma for the ability to see cooldowns on allies, refresh them, and give mana to allies. This is an ability that completely relies on an ally and other things in her kit are ignored because of this very gimmick alone.
  3. A poorly executed theme and refusal to actually improve it.
  4. Refusal to finish poorly executed animations, VO, and and a visual update that was rushed. Meanwhile, specific champions get it more than once and get it fairly often.
  5. Without numbers buffs has remained in a horrible play and winrate on a kit that clearly isn't woring out.

Leave the game and stop supporting this Development team. We are all better than them and they don't deserve us. The fact that, yet again, we are being completely invalidated as Karma mains with our opinions, means they don't care. Not a single Developer cared around the time of the relaunch, not a single Developer cared for the past 5 years, and not a single Developer cares to this day. Stop giving them your patience, passion and respct. These content creators do not deserve you or your money. I've said it multple times now and I will say it again, because a lot of people don't believe me. Stop giving them power. You aren't getting anything from a single Developer. The rework is going through and she will remain as a Support. Nothing you want or suggest is ever coming back.

If no one on the Development team is willing to work on any compromise between Old and New Karma players, there is no hope for the champion on one side. These Developers are unwilling to budge on anything old Karma players want back and it is very upsetting.

Im a Karma main. I played Karma before her original rework. I'm 100% okay with what riot is doing. Karma is a fun champ right now and I like her. She could use some buffs and they are doing that. No complaints here.

Your match history highly suggests that you are not a Karma Main. Saying that means you'd be playing her more than 50% of your games, but you're even below that threshold. Most of your games consists of Flavor Of The Month: Sion and Nami, then finally Karma.

I would like to emphasize this, by saying that your Nami winrate is 55% with 157 games this season. You've even played Sion more than Karma, with 119 games and a 64% winrate. (Which is really good btw, but Sion is also really good) And then third is your Karma, with 78 games only JUST BARELY above your Maokai with 55 games. Maybe you used to be a Karma main in the past seasons?

You telling me I am not a Karma main because of my match history makes you incredibly insensitive. I have almost 14 LoL accounts all with different themes on them. I don't play on just one account. I have been playing the game since season 2. My computer is also broken right now and I haven't played in a few weeks.

If you are going to go around accusing people of things, at least understand you are being offensive and rude. Stay out of my thread or I am reporting you. God some of you are rude.

Well, Meddler announced the rework would very likely be on the scope of Rengar and LeBlanc, both reworks that were 80-90% reverts. So they technically never said or promised a revert, but maybe you can kinda see why some Karma mains got their hopes up for a return of shieldbomb at least.

If you don't like what Riot is doing you have every right to stop playing. While Riot cares for it's fan base, I don't think they'll lose sleep over a few edge lords who refuse to be consoled instead of adapting to what Riot has chosen for their game.

While I do believe that a healthy dialogue between the player base and devs is essential for a good game, picketing because the game isn't exactly what you want is entitled and childish.

To make a long story short I believe you have a few options: one, you can either give up the game entirely and leave and I don't think anyone would be any worse off for it. Two you can choose to stick around the game, adapt, and move on with your life. Or Three you can continue to post edgy titles on the forum and throw words with anyone who disagrees.

I sincerely hope that you can find which outlet is healthiest. Remember, hatred is poisoning your own glass and hoping the other person dies. So do with it what you will, but unhealthy rumination only hurts yourself.

Tahminatrix 1 votes

"Picketing because the game isn't exactly what you want is entitled and childish."

This statement is alittle too extreme, the OP has clearly shown that its not just the changes that are bothering them but also riot`s lack of back and forth communication between them and the community (Which is a much bigger issue) along with an explanation as to why they are changing her this way.

Bringing this issue forward and threatening to leave the game just to show how big of an issue this is to them is not hatred, they have no intention of hurting riot or its developers in any way shape or form, they only intend to stop supporting and become neutral to them rather than negative / hostile.

I sincerely hope you can learn to be empathetic. Remember, presumptions have damaged nations, destroyed lives and families, and ruined reputations.

I've played Karma and I'm totally ok with her current state ,plus after reading about these new changes I'm really excited to play her ! so there is no complain here !

BTW i dont play this game for one champion ! even if they change my beloved Alistar orPyke , I'll still play this game ![vlad-salute]

Tahminatrix 4 votes

Why not split her into 2 champions or give her something similar to kayn`s passive where she can choose to be more support or damage oriented... (Doesn't it kind of work with her theme?, she learns and adapts)

Either of those ideas are better than the all or nothing tug of war between mage karma and support karma and their respective communities? atleast neither side gets completely alienated.

Winterkill4 votes

One of many options that could happen with her but it just isn't ever going to happen. She is a Support and the rework is already softlocked. Regardless of what anyone says, the rework is going nowhere and it is happening. This is going to be one of those "I told you so" moments in years to come.

usul12024 votes

But.... Neurocat just commented today on what they were doing to support her in midlane, and how some mantra changes like the charge system were meant to empower her for laning so she could still have the dual identity. She* also gave a really reasonable explination on why shield bomb isn't back that (from what I saw) even the shield bomb lovers could at least understand why, even if they'd still prefer it.

Winterkill3 votes

More numbers buff doesn't address the fact that her Mantra usage is now gated by a passive charge system with one damage ability. Her only damage ability is blocked by minions, frontloaded with damage that makes her even more annoying to play against, and the second tick of damage is basically invalid now. There was actually more skill in having the damage on her explosion more because it took skill to pull it off. Even having that was a failure.

What dual identity? If Karma is supposed to have a dual identity, she would have an ally mechanic on her Mantra Q (like healing) and a damage component on her Mantra E (shield bomb). Do you know what this does? It gives her an actual gameplay identity of being a duality champion on all of her abilities. What NeuroCat did was just give her a gimmick that solves none of her gameplay identity problems and gives her a massive buff to yet another Support oriented side of her.

The excuse to keep AoE shields over shield bomb is completely a choice. They decided having an ability that already functions as an item active on two items is more successful. They decided having AoE shields is better because it has been the only thing that has kept her relevant in the game for the past 5 years, because of massive numbers buffs and meta shifts in itemization. Look at her play and winrate because that is what it will be like after this new mechanic and her AoE shields are nerfed again.

NeuroCat is female. Please stop miss-gendering her.

usul12023 votes

I wasn't aware they took out w being enemy cast anymore, which was a staple of mage karma. That would take her out of the midlane /s. (also, they massively buffed her benefits from AAs, making her more lane interactive. And a jungle buff! Ngl, I think karma jungle would be a cool pick)

What duality would you put on the q? I'd be interested to see what's available.

So, it's a choice between a mechanic that has historically failed, and one that has kept a champ relevant for 5 years? Of course they went with the aoe shield. And yea, it's team fight nerfed (to make room for her other buffs) but I personally like the fact that it's buffed in lane for 2 person usage, making her have actual choices when fighting in lane.

My apologies, I don't keep up with rioters so I wasn't aware.

MisterShameless2 votes

Her cool down reduction got butchered with the incoming changes, which effectively reduces her damage output as a mage, in turn forces her to play a more supportive role, which results in Karma being turned from Artillery Battle Mage Enchanter to full on Enchanter, this was just the final step to locking her into that spot. I saw this coming from years back and I'm still surprised how far they went to make this happen.

Winterkill2 votes

Yeah. They did it. They are proud of the work.

usul12021 votes

The fuck are you talking about? They massively buffed her ult cdr...

Passive - Gathering Fire Kindled Spirit Cooldown reduced on Mantra from damage dealt: 2/3/4 (levels 1/7/13) >>> 3/4/5/6 (ult ranks) No longer halved on auto-attacks Now works against large monsters Now operates on a charge system Karma gains 1 charge per 7 seconds, to a cap of 3 charges

It's up 50% at early and late stages of the game, her autos now give full cdr not half, doubling their power, and it works on large monsters, meaning she can jungle as a mage! Not only does it mean more lane pressure, but with the charge system you can now combo rw and rq for max damage. I do not see how the battlemage part is being cut.

MisterShameless1 votes

You're clearly not taking the 1 charge per 7 seconds into account. Her current passive has no limit to how many times you can proc it. This is a huge nerf to her early game, makes her mid game burst slightly potential better, still hurts her damage mid game, and hurts her late game. Any decent Karma would have autoed their enemy laner 3 to 5 times every 5 seconds during laning, which results in a much more up time on their ult, this isn't including aiming their Qs between minions and enemy champions in lane. The hard cap of 7 seconds would be more bearable if it scaled with R ranking of 7 >>> 7/6.5/6/5.5. They never touched her R cooldown, which needs at least a 6 to 8 seconds shaved off its base cooldown. Even if they did both the scaling charge rate and shaved the base cooldown by a few seconds, her current cooldown reduction still provides more cool down reduction through out the entire game. This passive change will make Karma players less aggressive and prevents them from abusing Karma at her best, being her early game where she is at her strongest during any game. Any decent Karma players knows they need to play aggressive at the start or they miss Karma's advantage of early game. The charge system punishes good Karma players by making them play more passively while encouraging newer Karma players to play more passively which results in them missing out on Karma's full potential. This is whats called a crutch, where a change hinders pro players who play correctly, but rewards noob players for playing incorretly.

BTW Karma mains argued that the passive proc on monsters should have been added when they made W target monsters back in 5.10 with monsters procing Karma's passive similar auto attacks so she can actually take advantage of interacting with the jungle. This would have helped when karma mains tried making Jungle Karma work.

A lot of this just shows that people lack an understanding of how Karma works. At first glance, you think this is a buff, but its obviously a nerf with some bandages attached.

Footage is by RedRex7, someone who's reached masters (maybe at one point challenger, I believe, since he got the jacket featuring his name from Riot) with Karma only.

Here is what all good Karma player's do for strong early game: https://youtu.be/2PkEKxSIZPY?list=PLKy7GNHpPY06nehcQivqQriBDIhnUBjeA

Here's another example of how good Karma players take advantage of her kit correctly, take note this is a high elo Karma. Red did everything correct to instantly get her R back up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9MKZzGmOuo

I did this all the time in my alt Karma only account (where I played seriously) before she got popular in patch 6.6 all the way back in patch 5.10 because I knew how to play her. All the new players only ever focused on abusing Karma's retard shield change and never tried to learn to play Karma. All she ever was to them, was a dumb shield bot. Karma issues were so simple to fix, but all devs did was overthink and complicate Karma's issues, at least these changes are way more thoughtout when compared to her other terrible changes to her kit, but I still very much disagree with these new changes. This is why I quit back in patch 7.1, they changed her W from 3 ticks to 2, which just ruined any remaining potential for her to be any threat at all points of the game as an actual mage. Just accept that Karma is now a pure Support champion and stop trying to deny the truth. Karma has no chance of being a mage with the passive hard cap at a mid to high level of play. She is now cemented as a noob champ filled to the brim with crutches.

usul12021 votes

Well that's nice and all, but they're reworking the champion. Of course her strength timings are going to change. Of course she's not going to have the exact same trade pattern.....

I agree with you that it would be nice if the charge cd went down per r level, that would be an improvement. However, I think this change will allow karma to exist beyond "I'm a God early, fuck you till I become absolutely useless beyond a shieldbot later" by giving her effective power windows and meaningful decision making.

By making R have an actual cd that you have to respect (either a consistent slightly shorter cd or 2 fast uses by storing 3 charges) they can put more power into it so it is a more impactful spell.

MisterShameless1 votes

Okay so first you were saying it will be up 50% of time more, but now you’re saying it has a longer down time than before, which is it, a buff or a nerf.

Don’t let me talk about her skills that the devs butchered that put her into such a linear playstyle. That’s another can of worms.

usul12021 votes

Yes, each proc is 50% more. Meaning you're no longer punished for putting your mantrad abilities later in rotations and can instead followup with them, since it's still easier to proc.

It also has trade windows, which is a nerf. These changes are both and (imo) hopefully a solid power shift so she has a healthier power curve.

Abilities, whatever floats your goat. I'm not a fan of frontloading q, I do like that her w will crate unique synergies with bot laners and with jungler when she's mid. E I think is a fantastic change that empowers her in skirmishing situations without turning her into a sivir ultbot late, which moves her away from being locked into hard supping late game.

MisterShameless1 votes

Sorry for my wall of texts posts, just have a lot to say as a long time Karma main.

Okay, so we're at the agreement and understanding that Karma loses a lot of her damage potential once she uses up all three of her charges with her passive change. So now you understand "what the fuck I'm talking about," cool.

This was suppose to be "mini rework" that turned out to be a rather big one. I don't agree with it being a solid power shift, as I mentioned, this change became a crutch. I'm fine if its your opinion, I'm just making the argument that this isn't the right path to take as it pushes Karma into strictly a support champion role.

I agree with you on the changes being done to Q. It was perfect before the 8.14 patch, it did just enough damage, RQ damage was pretty good for a mini ult (when the 1st and 2nd explosion hit), the radius when it explodes was just right, and the delay on her RQ gave people enough time to simply walk out while punishing those who stayed in the 2nd explosion. With the radius buff on 8.14, people can't walk out of it and need a boost in speed to avoid it, making the skill unfair to play against. The changes to the first explosion will make the second explosion look weak and unsatisfying in comparison.

W's cooldown reduction is something I'm interested to see in action. It's something we've seen from Zilean's old kit, but with a different approach. As for mana regen aspect, it will be useless at mid to late game, similar to happened to Soraka's old E and Lissandra's passive where its good for the early game and its wasted power in Karma's kit for the rest of the match.

Here are my thought's on her new passive.

New passive: A game feature that lets you see your teammates cooldowns being restricted to a single champion is a terrible idea. You're artificially trying to give Karma a unique ability, which is wasting power in her kit. This is like saying Soraka has the unique ability to see team mates HPs and no other champion/player would be able to, not only that, but team mates can ping/tell you their skill cooldowns to inform the Karma player, without needing Karma's unique passive. Give this Game Feature to all players and here's a better and real unique passive.

New Passive: Name: Souls Intertwining: Enemies that are linked by Karma's tether reveal all their cooldowns (displayed over their head). Team mates are also able to see the cooldowns being displayed by the tethered target. This effect lasts for 2 seconds after tether breaks or snares the enemy. This would really make Karma stand out and help her make impactful plays early on.

Changes to E I think are meh as their just undoing the nerf done back at patch 7.12 by adding back 5 of the 20 flat points she lost and making her shield scale 5% better on ap. This will just bring her 6.6 patch shield back, but slightly better. I still like the idea that her speed buff should be 35>37.5>40>42.5>45 with 100ap = 8% speed boost, so that she would provide better speed once she hits about 250 ap, of course this is an idea that needs work and the numbers are just a starting point for it. Patch 6.6 Support Karma was only ever about her big shield, the speed boost was just a bonus to it, which made her shield broken, not even counting her shield being an AoE shielding/speed boost. It'll go back to Karma dominating the bot lane as she did throughout season 6 and 7 in both pro and casual play.

usul12021 votes

Karma loses a lot once charges are used, but also gains a lot when they're up, allowing for more powerful short trades and all-ins. Something pretty common for mages. I honestly thing these changes will make her much more viable to be a midlaner because they give her some of the weaknesses that are staples of mages, and will allow her to be balanced properly around them.

Q...... I don't even know. Tbh I hate the spell, it feels ridiculous in lane, and later you forget you're playing against it. I'd like it if rq managed to make it more attractive late game without making it as stupid stronk early. 0 clue how to achieve that, though, so I can't complain too much.

I think the mana regen though, if properly applied, could be quite significant. What happens when your anivia only needs 1 mana item, not 2? Or you've got a ziggs bot lane that can lichbane rush for pressure and not get fucked without a lost chapter. Even more nuts (high elo only I'd guess), mage junglers can swing by mid lane and regen mana, meaning that manacapped junglers like karthus would be more viable.

Cds...... Idk. Imo it's mandatory for her to have that ability to properly use w in low elo. High, you already know what's going on, even if it's just a general intuition. By default it becomes a "unique ability". (also I wouldn't want the screen clutter if I don't need it on other champs) your w idea..... I just can't see being useful beyond seeing ults. Low elo will never play around it, high elo are counting in their heads already.

E I think you're leaving off the most significant part, which is the re splitting its value between those effected. It's a serious buff to small skirmishes, as long as it doesn't have bad diminishing returns. Hell, it might make solo re-ing yourself a powerful move if it gives zillean levels of speed with a strong shield.

Ultimately, still plenty of time before this comes out. I might finally make a pbe account just to see how the changes feel vs on paper.

MisterShameless1 votes

I had a weird idea back in season 5 where Karma's Q snares instead of slows the target it hits, and her second explosion from RQ is like Varus's ult, but smaller and loses its second half of damage. While her W slows during the tether instead of snares at the end and still has the double damage from before the 5.10 rework. It still won't fix her kit as it still doesn't have a theme, but it would give her an option to either try a group snare or a group shield. That still leaves W not really having anything interesting to it outside of 1v1 dueling. I like that idea someone made where you can tether any two targets together rather tethering a target to yourself, you can tether anyone to anyone, if I remember it correctly, Neuro Cat said it ran into coding issues so it can't happen.

Now that you pointed it, my idea for a new passive is pretty bad, its no better than the planned changes. They should move that power somewhere else in the kit.

The E split I feel is something they will drop before making the new kit live, but you never know I suppose, it will definitely put Karma higher than she was back in patch 6.6 in terms of a broken shield bot.

usul12021 votes

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if the passive were originally part of w (where it belongs imo) and they realized it made the ability tool tip stupid long, so they moved it. It is a lot of text.

Her Q.... Is just so damn generic. The problem with that isn't it's genericness, there are plenty of healthy generic abilities, but it means if you want to move it elsewhere you're almost always copying someone else's shit. I think some extra power on the second hit would be nice, but you risk turning her into Morgana, but inverted. You use your chain to land a root so your q can do real damage, compared to morgs use your q so you can land chains for real damage. I guess that's why they frontloaded. Would be nice eif the second hit had some utility if they stick with that.

E, I think they keep in. It let's them nerf her 5v5 power without sacrificing lane. We'll see though, this is slated for next year, right?

And here we have another post from an edgy 14 year old that wines about his champion not being the way THEY want it too. The support 'main' karma who wants the game to be all around them, havent played a game in about a month, havent played Karma in forever but still shittalk other people for not being a 'proper karam main'. Love those hypocrytes.

Whatever, you know I loved playing old Akali, they reworked her and I still enjoy playing her. Even though I WAS worried in the beginning. Maybe wait and really check out how the rework feels before shittalking? And Riot does give a shit (once in a while lol) about their community. BUt not about people like you giving nothing but disrespect for the work people have done just because it doesnt suit your INDIVIDUAL feelings. Insane, how someone can be so selfish. NOt everyone has the same taste you have, it's timeyou learn that I guess.

I know I'm not a Karma main, so maybe I cant really feel it the way you do, but my champs got reworked in the past too and I survived, stop making such a big deal out of iz. Riot's doing their best they cant satisfy any individual.

So either you leave or you grow up and accept it.

Automated Riven3 votes

You have my support. I have hated reworks since they started them. I barely even play the game anymore. And i gave up hoping for a karma revert years ago. She was my second favorite mage after anivia. and I have barely played her since the rework.

Winterkill3 votes

Sad thing is, during the relaunch of Karma in 2013, there was a massive lesson to be learned. The lesson learned and even admitted by Developers at the time, they shouldn't remove themes, identities and abilities that players have a particular fondness for. There should be a work ethic to correct those mistakes as well because most people are willing to forgive and forget if there is an active effort to improve what was made wrong. After the relaunch there was zero intent to make any positive changes on Karma to improve her. Her rework should have been a wake up call on how they approach champions. That was not the case though.

Death by Glamour3 votes

Its disappointing, look at the previous reworks then look at this. All i wanted was

A new model with the fans

Ally interaction on W, damage mitigation or damage share something along those lines

Sgield decay on RE for skill expression.

What we got is something that was deemed so unhealthy for the game it was removed from soraka

Karma is one of my top 5 favourite champs currently.

My account has both UFO Corki and Silver Kayle(go look them up if you don't know what they're from ;)). I am not a NEW player to the game by any means. I played some Karma before the rework.

I feel like the direction Riot is taking now has potential and could be very interesting. I will reserve any complaints for after it is live and I have had the chance to really see how it works out... but so far I am cautiously optimistic.

DontTouchMyBall1 votes

Karma is one of my faves even though I have way too many mastery points on other supports. I never played the old Karma witht he shield bomb, I missed out :( I'd like to see her fans back but I won't make a fuss about it.

My one and only concern regarding her ability rework is the fact that she may end up broken and difficult to balance and I wouldn't want to deal with that. I hope it all goes well, Karma mixes mechanics from 2 of my most played champions: Morgana (Q and R) and Orianna support (W and E).
