Meddler/Ghostcrawler what is the intended armor breaking point for new IE + zeal to be better?

Irelia Bot··26 votes·12,438 views

If the new true damage in place of 50% more crit damage were the only change it would have the desired stated goal of lower damage against squishy targets and higher damage against high armor targets. If the changes to Infinity Edge were limited to this and only this I would say you succeed in your stated goals.

My question is not about that though. It is realted to the actual effects of changing IE from 20% crit chance to doubling crit chance meaning that a Zeal item + IE gives 60% crit chance compared to the current 50% on live.

If you calculate for this higher crit chance the point at which armor becomes less effective on the PBE currently compared to live is 62.5 armor which seems really low. Even marksmen have that much base armor by around level 13 meaning that this is an all around buff for marksmen damage even agaisnt squishies and there is no way to escape this fact.

125 armor would make more sense but is not the case due to the new IE doubling the 30% of a Zeal item meanign 10% more crit chance and in turn higher damage overall. If Zeal items had 25% crit chance down from 30% then 125 armor would be the breaking point which would actaully reach the stated goals of lower damage to squishes and higher damage to tanks

So what is the intended armor breaking point for when armor becomes less effective with the new 8.11 IE compared to the live IE?

You implying there is a goal in what they do? Yes it is. Covering ADCs buffs behind an illusion of nerfs. They never wanted to do anything with ADCs in the first place.jokes on you.

THERE IS NO NEED FOR A FUCKING BREAKING POINT adc need MASSIVE nerfs in every single aspect, hell the "buff" they gave to mages is more if a nerf, than the nerf to ADC's.

You want the entire class to be worthless AND remove the only efficient means of killing tanks?

Nuking the entire class just results in a tank meta (because the class that's supposed to keep tanks in check as the game goes on just got gutted) where the only 'usable' ADCs would be Ashe and Sivir, who even then would only really function as "secondary supports".

Making ADCs worthless also makes assassins borderline worthless by extension because who are they going to assassinate? They can kill the enemy's wave-clear mage if they have one, but then they're left shrugging their shoulders at the tanks they can't kill.

You're left with a game that's nothing but tanks and wave-clear mages, and I don't know about you, but that sounds agonizingly boring.

You can nerf marksmen and tanks at the same time. You don't have to exclusively nerf one or the other.

If you nerf tanks so that non-ADC classes can handle them at more points in the game, then why would anyone ever play a tank?

You're looking for a massive power shift (from burst towards sustained damage) rather than a massive nerf.

When you say "massive fucking nerfs", the weight of the words implies that you want ADCs to be worthless.

Short Answer No, i prefer to judge people from the personality. if anyone is hiding on a low level account instead of his/her main account so no one can know his/her previous data on boards or even personality. That simple means is not my level, not my friend, can't be my friend, will never be whatsoever happen.

I've never been higher than silver 4 on any account I've ever played on, and those accounts are banned anyway, so it's a moot point either way.

I make observations and form thoughts based on numbers and what general consensus seems to be on things. It's not actually that hard to understand this game on a fundamental level, even if you're not good at execution.

This is more about how they are applying buffs through a mask of changes that are called nerfs. 62.5 armor is the current point where armor becomes less effective against an IE + Zeal item. IF it was 50% crit chance instead of the 60% that it currently is on PBE it would be at 125 armor where it becomes less effective compaired to live.

I ma not saying this is enough but that this doesn't even reach one of the state goals of lowering damage to squishes since squishes more often than not have at least 62.5 armor come mid to late game. If it was 125 armor I would at least entertain the idea of this being a step in the right direction.

Personally I would much rather see BF sword provide 25% base AD+ 10 flat AD so marksmen get less from it.

Would also be fine if they didn't make IE build form 2 BF swrods an kept it's current build path and 20% crit chance at 80% outside of Trynda and Yasuo. This would be an all around nerf to the class as well.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

While I agree they need nerfs (partially from them been the focus point for far longer than two years), they could at least do it in a more interesting way; such as making mobility items and lifesteal items unique so they have to choose which defensive measure they want, would be an example. Also a rage post isn't going to get traction or look good regardless if being correct, take a moment to get a drink of water or something.

My question is yasuo passive+IE a 3x chance to crit or a 4x chance to crit? Either way I feel like the boards are going to be complaining about yasuo dealing true damage on every AA.

Anyways, it seems like if ADCs stick to two zeal items and an IE, or a zeal item, an ER, and an IE they should be getting 100% crit chance. So it's pretty safe to say that any marksman with 3 items will be expected to deal 20% true damage on every attack. A double zeal ADC will be doing 28 true damage per AA from IE alone plus whatever his base and other items give him. An ER+IE ADC will do 60 true damage per AA after this goes live plus whatever he does from base and other items. A champ with 100 armor would be taking 14 more damage from the first build and 30 more damage from the second. On the other hand champs with 60 armor would be taking about 11 and 22 more damage per AA. At your 125 breakpoint we are looking at about 16 and 34 more damage per AA.

No I didn't factor in armor pen because I don't want to be here all night.

Anyways it feels like the numbers are based on champs with 100 armor.

Yasuo will reach 100% with IE and PD due to his passive.

That's good to know. Some games add up the multipliers before multiplication happens (every x2 is generally +1 to existing bonuses), others doesn't.

What if IE's passive scaled the way lethality does as well?

That is to say, you get half with the item and the other half based on Level, hitting 20% conversion at level 18.

Limiting early power while providing scaling effectiveness is why lethality scales the way it does, after all.

As much as I want marksmen to scale with levels to the same degree that everyone else does I don't think riot will do that.

It's a consequence of the meta and how game design has evolved around it.

Since marksmen are traditionally the duo lane role, they level slower than the solo lanes. Since they level slower in lane AND don't benefit as much from said levels, they need to scale better off the gold they earn.

Marksmen and supports existing outside the same level curve as the rest of the team seems to be one of the causes for a lot of balance grief...

They could do things to fix this such as making supports benefit from roaming to be near higher level allies for "catchup" exp and remove the shared exp boost. I'm foggy on the math as to how 60% crit chance=60% crit damage, if you could dumb that down for me I'd be grateful, but the AD buff is real so yeah.. but it seems like the intent is for a full zeal item and a zeal before you get like.. a bloodthirster or a death's dance

If you calculate for this higher crit chance the point at which armor becomes less effective on the PBE currently compared to live is 62.5 armor which seems really low. Yes to the 25%, nothing feels worse than wasted stats, even if it's effective. Maybe even having like shiv and ruunans be 20% crit items with rapid fire and PD being 30% crit items, therefore going for a 2 zeal build would still cap you in more efficient ways but it would deter obnoxious waveclear or obnoxious chase down, and would encourage the synergy of Shiv+RFC as well as the balance of PD+Ruunans, even opening up (If it's even closed down) the idea of allowing PD to stack it's passive on multiple targets if they were all hit by ruunans

So what is the intended armor breaking point for when armor becomes less effective with the new 8.11 IE compared to the live IE?

Reduce the Zeal upgrades to 25% crit chance each, and make IE's true damage conversion scale "half with level" like lethality does.

25% crit chance is a nicer number than 30% anyway, since 1/4 is easier to grok than 3/10, and it makes the IE + double Zeal upgrade build curve more smoothly at 25 -> 50 -> 100.

IE's conversion being gated by level accomplishes the same "limit early power while still letting it do the job late" thing as lethality's scaling.

Lethality was eventually changed to start higher though. Now it starts at 7% armor pen pretty much, whereas before it was like 4%, and went up to 10%, now it starts at 7% and goes to 10%(this is just with serrated dirk as an example). I'm not against the idea for ADCs, but stating that lethality's scaling limits assassins early isn't really true anymore. They're pretty much on the high end of the spectrum starting off, and only gain a tiny bit from levels.

I would barely even call it a limitation considering 3% damage over levels vs 7% damage straight up. This is one thing that makes AD assassins more dominant, aside from the fact that they can buy lethality as a core item opposed to AP assassins buying it as a secondary niche item.

The items may break even at 62.5 armor, but they are significantly worse to buy. Sitting on a BFS and then waiting for another 1300 gold before you can buy another component item and THEN sitting on another 1100 gold, with no attack speed, crit, or lifesteal that whole time, it's going to be horrible.

I do not foresee marksmen actually building Infinity Edge second once it's live. The item is just too fucking clunky and no one is actually talking about buildling it in game, they're only looking at the final product. It's more likely that either Blade of the Ruined King or Bloodthirster will be the second item that these champions build once the meta has settled.

What do you think they will build instead? Stormrazor or lifesteal items are the only things that come to mind given that LW items are usually a third or 4th item to contend with armor sackers.

The fact is that they are still going to get it as a 2nd or third item because it has too large of a power boost to not get.
