What's Riot's beef with Swain?

Hey everyone, just another Swain thread pointing out the 3 consecutive nerfs for Swain, a champion who has been left alone for years. Just like champions like Amumu who has a small dedicated fanbase, his statistics were quite successful. I credit this previously above average win rate to 3 points:

  1. A small group that plays a specific champion consistently knows the in's-and-out's of the champion like the back of their hand. They perform better than the fickle playerbase that moves their champion pool in the direction of where the "meta" (aka LCS) takes them. They cannot and will not perform as well as a champion that they've stuck with. Swain is one of those champions.

  2. Because so little people played Swain, very few of them even understood his kit, let alone discovered his large amount of weakness that he conceals. This led to many opponents of Swain players complaining about his "MEGA 2 SECOND STUN" (by the way, it's a ROOT and not a stun). This leads to my final point.

  3. Swain's a snowbally champion, getting ahead with him means very very bad news for teamfights.

So Riot decided to nerf Swain in 3 different aspects, a decision I believe is foolish. Here's what they did:

Deathfire Touch has reduced effectiveness on DOT abilities I can definitely agree for Riot nerfing this, it was extremely abusable on champions like Brand Malzahar Swain

item 3157 armor reduced to 45 from 50, increased gold cost by 500 A core item on Swain, normally taken second after RoA, was nerfed substantially. Again, I agree with this nerf from Riot. Even though the item is only 87% cost effective, it's reduced active ages ago made it extremely strong for champions like Swain. It was pretty abusable

**Nevermove (W) root duration reduced to 1/1.3/1.5/1.8/2 seconds from 2 at all ranks* I just cannot believe that Riot took the 1 element of Swain's kit that did not need nerfs and brought it to the ground. Swain's damage is completely reliant on him keeping his opponent just at that right distance that they won't murder him in range but at the same time can't bombard him with long range spells. His W was that tool. Now pre level 12 I cannot even reach the opponent for my EQ combo without the the root ending. This cuts all of his damage, as you will only get 1 tick from his Q, maybe two on his ult and that is compounded by the loss of damage amp from his E. Every part of his kit was nerfed because of the rise of Deathfire Touch. They already nerfed that mastery and his core item, they really didn't have to go this far.

Let me tell you, playing against Swain is like playing a game of chicken (haha). He'll walk up to you all confident like and put his W BEHIND YOU, forcing you to make a decision (which will be in his favor). As a squishy mage like Lux, you'll want to GTFO but that'll mean taking full DOT from his EQ, and R. Trust me, YOU WILL OUTRADE HIM IF YOU AVOID HIS ROOT.

Another point, the key to beating Swain isn't attacking his health bar, it's his mana bar. PPush the wave like hell, and watch his abysmal last hitting crumble under the tower. To get CS he will have to use his extensive mana costs from his abilities to last hit. Trust me, his passive is not enough to sustain his mana bar under these circumstances. You either push him to tower and roam easily or keep doing this till he's forced to go back (which will be in 3-4 waves depending on his last hitting). You can proceed to snowball lanes.

So there you go. The secret to beating Swain in lane. If you have any arguments for them, I'd like to hear them. Perhaps I am missing something. All I can see is that Riot is making the same mistake as they have before, not only double nerfing Swain but triple nerfing him, all because the playerbase cannot put the effort into thinking about how to beat a non-meta opponent. There are multiple ways for beating an opponent.
