Why Solo Que is bad for League of Legends

I don't think Dynamic Que is good. In fact, I don't think I've ever been more frustrated than when I was the odd man out on a 4 man premade.

That said, I think Solo Que is TERRIBLE for league of legends, and the mere notion of it doesn't even make sense in a game like this. If Solo Que were introduced today, many players would be a little confused why they would even want it.

Let's consider Massive Multiplayer online games as a whole for a moment. If you've ever played an MMO for an extended period of time, you know that they eventually become a grind. How then, do you keep playing a game that is essentially grinding levels without becoming utterly bored? Well, in order to perform any of the particularly difficult dungeons you are probably going to need to form a group. Sure, you can wander alone for the first few levels, but you aren't going to do anything really cool unless you nut up and ask someone to join your party. Eventually, you find the ones you really like playing with, and you stick with them. Soon, you have a group of regulars and suddenly the game blossoms into something far greater than you thought it was. SOCIAL INERACTION makes massive multiplayer games the amazing thing that they are. If you just wanted competition or strategy, you could pick up Tekken or Starcraft. But these games offer communication, cooperation, and a very different feeling of accomplishment when you succeed.

But in certain mmos you can auto party right before the big dungeon. Suddenly you don't have to know anyone because you just get jammed with random people and can instantly run right in. The result? Fast? Yes. Efficient? Definitely. Personal? Never. Creates an environment where it's easy to be toxic and blame others for the group's failure? Absolutely. When the one thing that was making the game really special is no longer the most efficient way to play the game, you have a broken game.

I know I don't even have to try to convince anyone that playing League with friends is the best experience possible in the game. You start to learn eachother's playstyles, champion pools, you communicate better, and feel a much stronger sense of unity when you win a game.

Solo Que throws that all out the window. The fact that Solo Que is considered the only real "serious" mode in the game means that the only victories that matter are the ones that ask you to play a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE GAME..... alone.

Perhaps Dynamic Que wasn't the answer, but that doesn't mean Solo Que is the best thing to happen to league of legends. In fact, the emphasis on it is part of what causes many of player's greatest grievances about ranked play.

> TLDR; > Online Multiplayer Games are at their best when you play with a group you know > Most online games encourage you to meet people and form a group > If the most efficient or correct way to play the game rewards you for playing alone, you are losing one of the greatest parts of the game > Playing alone with strangers makes it so much easier for the rampant toxicity we all hate to exist

I'm not actually sure why people dislike the Dynamic Q so much. Mainly in the sense that Riot has already said that Premades were going to be matched with other premades. Reducing the chance of simply getting pub stomped.

The only annoying part about Premades is the aspect of becoming a 5th wheel for those premades. (in the event where a premade queued up with only 4 people.) But still, Solo players are going to outnumber the premades, so the odds of even becoming the 5th wheel are small.

I wonder if Riot has collected data on Dynamic Q, in regard to how big a party people tend to build in regards to yolo Q. (I'm betting it's still 95% solos.)

... and the mere notion of it doesn't even make sense in a game like this.

Outside of pure 5vs5 ranked teams, it's the only game mode that is balanced.

If Solo Que were introduced today, many players would be a little confused why they would even want it.

That's simply because majority of the people are casuals, and don't either know or care about competitive integrity.

And this would be perfectly fine if you would always play against a similar premade. But with dynamic queue, you are not.

but that doesn't mean Solo Que is the best thing to happen to league of legends.

Currently, it will be since they removed Ranked 5's.

SoloQ would be the "de facto" competitive ranked game mode.

What do you mean by that?

I don't recall people whining about soloQ, but for many many years there have been ridiculous amount of QQ about premades specifically ... and many many people wanted pure soloQ and duoQ option to be removed completely. But now things are even worse.

I agree with you.

But I don't think you understand the shitstorm you just brewed in this dynamic queue- sensitive community. May the downvotes treat you well.

I agree and to add in I think the big gripe I have with solo Q is how different an experience it is from team play lol

Normal lol is about teamwork and coordination it's a team game after all, solo Q feels like it's 1vs9 and your job is to solo carry harder then anyone on the enemy team, it breeds an environment of lone wolfing and looking at your teammates as factors of the game and less like teammates

That's from my perspective tho, solo Q is fundementally different from how league of legends actually is

I think there can't be DynQ and SoloQ at the same time, because solo players are important for the DynQ matchmaking: without solo players riot could not match 4 premates and 3 and 2 player teams could be only matched with 2 or 3 player teams.
