People keep misusing words and it irks the hell out of me

Like, if you're "trying to make a point" and you say something along the lines of "Garen or Annie has more counter-play than Akali or Zoe", can you do us a favor and just turn your computer off instead of posting? I can understand that people may not understand HOW to play around something, and I can understand that some things that should have more counter-play are simply over-tuned at one point or another, but you don't get a pass to just misuse a word and stir up the usual boards hysteria, then hide behind group think when you're blatantly wrong.

Same for when people say champs like Kayn are "overloaded". "Oh no, he can dash a small distance and attack, use a medium-range attack, and use a 'kinda like Zed' ult. He's overloaded because his E has him walk through walls in a game where tons of other characters can also use abilities through or just jump over walls". Think with your heads, not with your tears.

People do this with the word "tilted", too. If you're just up and being a nuisance on purpose regardless of what the situation calls for, you're not "tilted". What you are is a douche. I can understand someone being "overheated" in-game. Happens to all of us. However, that doesn't excuse intentionally making the game hard because "He tilted me". That's not even what "playing while tilted" even MEANS. Tilt defines a lack of focus as you play over-aggressively to recover losses. It's NOT used as a catch-all for what-the-hell-ever you decide to do because xXxGimmieJimmyNowxXx said your sister was a thot after taxing your lane.

Just a thought on my mind.

When did Inting stop meaning Intentionally feeding. That's the one id like to know. Who the hell was like "oh yea its a catch all phrase for bad playing". Oh mid went 2-3-1 in lane, dude stop inting. I coulda swore it was short hand for folks saying please report Player X for Intentionally feeding and that used to look like 1-5 to 0-10-0 as they clearly make 0 attempt to contest a fight and just walk out to die. Standing still taking auto attacks spamming emotes and /l? Inting. Getting tower dove and killed by a jungler, mid, and Top? Just part of the dam game, visions nice but not everybody can keep it up.

...Annie DOES have more counterplay than Zoe ,Akali or Kayn

if u cant see that... something is wrong with you.

maybe not if she is fed, and is sitting an a bush and ulti u when you walks by..

if in order to counter someing you have to do something strange and extraordinary. that u dont have to do for 98% of other champions in the game..

it means it HARDER to counter them.. and therefore don't have as much counterplay.

if a champions takes Y skill to plays and 4x Y skill to beat then something is wrong

bwipo called akali overloaded

i lmfao'ed so hard

damn, champ has dashes, damage, stealth, and sustain incredibly overloaded indeed meanwhile he mains camille who has as much mobility, insane tankiness, sustain, true damage burst, tower shredding, and an ult that makes her untargeable+blocks a target

I think "overloaded" is one of my most hated buzzwords. If a champ's overloaded it would mean they have way too many functions in one kit. People just use "overloaded" to start railing on something they dislike with no real intention of arguing the point that they have too many tools.

People need to understand complexity is not a bad thing, more power tied to more conditions can result in less power then lower power on lower conditions.

Example, If we removed the MS, the ring, the range extension, some of the damage, and the energy refund on Akali passive . Her passive now its just next auto is empowered when she hits an enemy with abilitys. That would be strictly stronger on her then the current passive owning to the nature of her kit. She can rapidly trigger a simplified passive resulting it the passive that's already lost mobility, range, damage, resource manipulation, needing a further numbers nerf to keep it in line Or a Lock out to prevent combing casts and autos.

Blitz Q is the most simple hook in the game. Its also the strongest. Thresh can reactivate his and dash in, Natu can use his for mobility and get a CD, Pyke can slow or charge and hook, all of them have more effects, more uses, more text, and the strongest one still is Blitz who literally just hits hook or misses and gets nothing.

Even with everyone's favorite "overloaded" complaint, Yasuo. He'd be gutter trash if any of his tools were removed. Would people rather he had some poke safety or the inevitable damage compensation buffs that would follow the removal of it? Would people rather he had some safety from projectiles every 20-30 seconds or the nightmare fuel that would probably replace it?

I get the feeling that his E and R came first, followed by his Q and the rest of his kit.

And people that think Tank Meta means Tanks are Vianle not that tanks are dominating other classes.

chipndip11 votes

Exactly. That's another one. Tanks dominating to the point of every team having 2-3 tanks isn't a healthy game state, but that's the only time people think tanks are worth using. Makes no sense, since they're generally usable right now. Not all of them, but some of them.

If you're going to think that champions like garen and annie have less counterplay than akali or zoe, and that kayne isn't overloaded, then can you do everyone a favor and go play a different game? Maybe pick a genre that actually fits such a philosophy without being a detriment to the game's design, like a fighting game where CDs, resources, and power progression aren't really a thing.

I think I've found one of the people pressuring riot to ruin the design of their game guys.

Otherwise, yeah try to use tilted right.

simpler champions DO have less counter-play. However it comes at the cost of having a low skill ceiling and being fairly predictable especially with attack patterns.

deadlychuck1 votes

I'm sorry, but predictable attack patterns have NOTHING to do with champion complexity. It's entirely based on ability disjointedness.

Here's a few champions with complex kits that have incredibly low skill ceilings and predictable attack patterns Talon Malzahar Illaoi Ekko Khazix

Edge of Daybreak1 votes

What is complex about talon? His Q having 2 different functions is the only thing I can think of that is not simplistic.

deadlychuck1 votes

Complex kit

Edge of Daybreak1 votes

Yeah what's complex about it? ult is simple. E is jump over walls and structures w is simple. Q is simple. passive is simple.

tru

Ekko

Low skill ceiling

Mains marksmen

This is why I'm not taking much time to respond to you. Your bias is incredible.

deadlychuck1 votes

I don't main marksmen so... maybe you should just stop talking

chipndip12 votes

All evidence says you do.

deadlychuck1 votes

Well you're either being presumptuous or you're just bad at reading evidence.

Psyrix2 votes

Ok... ekko is by far not a low skill ceiling considering a lot of his dmg is backloaded and relies on outmaneuvering and/or prediction. Lol, unless he takes darkharvest and farms up nicely

chipndip13 votes

So you don't know what counter-play means. Right. So yeah, just ask and someone shall explain, like Raymond just did.

deadlychuck1 votes

I know full well what counter-play means, I think you just don't know how counter-play is expressed in RPG and RTS games. You seem to only understand what counter-play means in the context of action and fighting games, which are not the genres which the MOBA had it's mechanics and designs based on. Making for an extremely inappropriate interpretation of the term in this genre of game.

you do realize that fighting games have CDs, resources and power progression, do you not? They also are characterized by animation locking of characters, as opposed to league which has a lot of animation canceling.

The "resources" and "cooldowns" of fighting games work on a completely different axiom to an RPG based design, yes they exist in some respects, but they behave, nearly inverse to that of RPG based designs (to be clear MOBA are undeniably RPG based in design). As far as power progression is concerned, you might have a game like smash bros ("fighting game") where the damage % increases the knock back multiplier, but the actual power of each almost never actually increases throughout the game duration. A hit that dealt 5% of the opponent's max health at the start of a round is still going to be dealing that same 5% by the end.

It is true that these concepts work on a different axiom in fighting games. Still they do exist:

1 CDs.

Fighting games work with the concept that only one move can be active at once. Therefore, there is an "internal cool" down preventing you from activating a subsequent move, so long as your current move in in play. This includes walking and otherwise controlling the position of your character.

This is only partially and situationally allevaiated by a small number of animation cancels which can be done at specific instances.

2 Resources

Resources work in the form of various meters which can be built up and spent.

3 Power progressions

In the form of transitioning from a state where both heroes have no resources, to a state where both have the option of spending resources for "resource moves". For instance "V triggers" or "X factor".

deadlychuck1 votes

Well the issue with a claim of "power progression" claim is that it's really indistinguishable from the "resource", in that you still technically have access to the moves at the start of the game, just not the resources to activate them. So any power progression is temporary, more like a consumable than actual increased power throughout the fight.

PhDs Nuts1 votes

People use "overloaded" when they mean "overtuned".

The only really "overloaded" champs I can think of are Camille Irelia Thresh

Most of people's complaints are about overtuned champs: MonkeyKing Zed Zoe Akali Kayn , and Zoe is the only one in that list whose complaints aren't based almost entirely on a single item in their build: item 3146 or item 3147.

What do you expect? These days, in the best of circumstances, people are barely able to spell their own name right without catastrophically disemboweling themselves, and your average League player is about seventeen grades below that standard.
