Blue versus Yellow trinket

With the successive nerfs to the blue trinket, I find it harder and harder to keep using it instead of the yellow one. I'm convinced that the blue trinket has some great potential, but it needs much more team cooperation to be effective. In its previous state, it was still strong enough to be useful by itself, but now, I think I'll just get back to using the base yellow one.

Your thoughts?

EDIT: I should have mentioned it earlier, but I'm referring to the new change on the PBE:

  • Reduced cooldown of Blue Trinket lowered to 33% from 50%
  • Recharge time of Yellow Trinket lowered to 180 - 90 seconds based on level from 180-120 seconds.

You need both. I would never use more than two blue trinkets on a team as there are certain points of the map that need to be kept warded by more than a flimsy gets killed in one hit ward. And before you scream "it's the support's job" they really can't with a max of 3 wards.

Yeah, 2 blue trinkets used in coordination is cool, but it's the coordination part that is lacking from my experience. With the successive nerfs, 1 blue trinket alone seems lackluster.

(And note that with 2 blue/2 red, that leaves only 1 yellow.)

1 Yellow works fine in my experience if people are buying wards. And if you're at full build and no longer have room to well there's usually not as big of a need for yellow wards by that point. I do usually like the adc and the support having blue trinkets as they should be able to work with each other.

Support needs Red Trinket too much to be able to take a Blue. But yeah, you have a point, if these 2 could have blue trinket together, it would be cool.

I like my top and jungler having red more than I do my support personally. Jungler for obvious reasons but top usually is my tank leading the front lines and I find can make better use of it. Of course with a tanky jungler you could go that route too but I really like the supports that focus on peeling for their carries.

We agree on Jungler, but IMHO, Top needs wards too much, for warding before split-pushing safely, or to keep an eye on Baron when the support is bottom side.

In my ideal world:

  • Top: yellow
  • Jungler: red for ganks + warding machete if needed
  • Mid and ADC: blue, they are carries and need to stay safe
  • Support: Sightstone + Red: ward important areas and de-ward the opposing wards at the same time.

Well I meant after the laning phase is done - once top is split pushing and the rest of the team is grouped and the support is constantly putting wards on the side I don't really see the point of top having wards. I'd much rather be able to clear the ward and be able to join my team undetected and win a fight 5 vs 4. I think it really changes by team comp though. If I'm using Kat mid I would never go blue since I lose my ward jump ability - on the other hand as lux mid I typically trade to blue (unless there's already several) for the laser sniping capability.

blue is an infinite time ward (as long as it is not killed) with enough range to scout hazardous areas so usually it is stronger in terms of play making.

The yellow trinket allows you two max charges with a rather high recharge time comparatively:

120 at best for yellow trinket
                                                                                    and
90 for blue right when you get it.

So while yellow boasts 2 charges and the ability to always have a ward placed (best ward recharge = ward life at max) I still prefer to use blue as it serves as a warning + safe vision.

Keep in mind team comps with a tp player. Tp can not be used on blue wards.

Currently on the PBE, Yellow Trinket has a recharge time of 180-90 (down from 180-120), and Blue Trinket has only 33% reduced cooldown (decreased from 50%), which means in practice that Blue has 90-60 in both cases.

At level 18, there is only a 30-second difference, plus the charge system, so you can always have 1.5 wards placed in average. You can have 1 ward placed in permanence starting level 15. At level 9, there is a 45-second difference.

i still prefer the blue one. if yellow trinket worked like it did last season then i'd be all over it. but this season so far....its recharge rate is way too slow and the duration of the wards when you place them is significantly lower. those 2 things make it not too worth it for me

Stealth vision is the key.

Blue is still super useful, but now they made it so having both blue and yellow trinkets on a team is beneficial rather than everyone just getting a blue trinket, which is a good thing (y)

At lower ELO, the problem is the opposite. People just keep the yellow one, and if one lone player take the blue, he is often alone. And my point is, while Blue Trinket offer safe scouting and play making capacities, you need 2 for an efficient use. I'm starting to think, with the successive nerfs, that 0 Blue is better than just 1 Blue.

I think it's still really strong, even if you only have 1 on your team. The range is just too useful. Very strong for safely split pushing. Drop a pink and a blue and you're set.

Compared to the first patch of pre-season, Blue Trinket currently on PBE has:

  • Significantly higher cooldown (while the yellow's CD has been reduced at the same time, so comparatively much less interesting).
  • Smaller sight radius.

Voted blue. Didn't see the change. Now wish I voted yellow and blue just got fucked lol.

Yellow trinket has been just as good as blue trinket or better than blue trinket for me for a long time. I miss sight wards.
