I've never seen a games core premise collapse as hard as League of Legends has.
I'm not trying to meme here and this is all just opinion. But what I am witnessing happen to league of Legends is both sad and frightening to me.
I'm not a season 1 vet like some people are so I don't know what the old-time league was like, BUT I have been playing this games for quite a few years and seasons and the startling transformation and ultimate collapse I am witnessing take place with League is something I don't think I'll ever forget. League was a game I was very passionate about when I started, it was fun, it inspired me to really think about my tactics and how I played certain champs and encouraged me to try new things. It was overall a good and enjoyable experience to play this game.
Over time though Riot's dev team made some questionable and albeit bad decisions that took the game down a very dark and destructive path. For me, it was like being stuck on a runaway train that is about to slam into a mountain of TNT and i can't do anything to stop it. Games went from all of the above and transcended into Meta's that were more frustrating and punishing to play in the anything. I remember the tank Meta, oh boy do I ever. I could write a whole book about what that moment in league was awful but that's a topic for another time. going from there though, we shifted from a tank meta to what we have now, a damage Meta and it's just awful.
With Riot adding more and more damage every patch we witness more and more champions lose their unique identity and are ultimately substituted out for their damage. I this meta were damage is victory we don't pick a support that can peel well, that can shield, who is unique for keeping the team alive or who can tank a lot of damage. No, now we pick supports who can only dish out burst damage. when the damage a champion can dish out is what makes it valuable to a team fight as opposed to its original unique purpose we start to see that role collapse, and as a result many champions who were unique in their own way for having low damage but other tools are left lost and forgotten, completely unviable in a Meta that demands that all champion be kissed in one spell rotation.
Support are just an example f this, any lane, and any class is affected negatively by this collapse. Mages are pushed out of the mid lane because assassins instantly kill them at lvl 3 with one rotation. Tanks are being burst down in the top lane by most bruisers thanks the conquerer, ADC's now deal true damage thanks to infinity edge, and for what? when did all these damages appear? and why? who at the dev team sat down at a table with their colleagues and said "We want people to die faster, we want team fights to be shorter, we want games to be shorter, we want strategy and team building wiped from the tables, the only thing teams need is damage. Damage damage damage damage."
No. Stop. This is not what league was designed to be. A one punch meta is not a fun meta. Teamfights should not be decided by who throws the first punch, i shouldn't have to pick a champion who's sole value to the team is damage in order to have a chance of winning.
I want to play my champions for what makes them unique and special, Not because of how much damage they do
Team building, lane pacing, strategy, teamwork, doing what you do best, what is unique to you in a team fight. That is what league of legends was all about it. Got a poke heavy team? I could pike a powerful peeler like

and keep my ranged teammates safe while our top lane fighter prepares to finish off any low health opponents who stray too far into the front line.
Or maybe they have a poke heavy team. Time to whip out a champion that and handle that.
would be great for that or even
with his tankyness and ability to heal.
But now?
No.
In the same situation as above but now you would never pick them, why? because they don't have high burst damage, the name of the game isin't to team build and find where you fit in, to strategize, no, you have only one job, dish out more damage than the other team. Because it doesn't matter if you are

becuase any ADC or Assassin is still going to olbiterate you with one skill rotation becuase damage is ridulously hgh and there s no value to building those startaigic items.
The damage meta is stale, its frustrating and its causing League to collapse hard. When you have an out of control dev team who doesn't understand the possibly irreparable damage they are causing to the game. Then there is no way for the wound to heal and its only gets worse, and worse and worse...
Until there is nothing less.
So why did I type this? Maybe it was to reminisce to what the good ol days of league were like, but probably I was more interested in hearing your thoughts.
