Riot has sent a powerful message to it's community: Solo players aren't welcome in LoL

Packun Flower··472 votes·15,800 views

Since it has pretty much been confirmed that SoloQ is not coming back I am pretty ticked off that I now must be alienated and punished in my games simply because I prefer to play alone. I have not played a game today where I was not put in or against a 3-4 man premade group, attacked because of it and punished by being placed at a disadvantage when vsing them. (Just to clarify I have not be banned, this is not a ban appeal)

Riot. If you don't want Solo players such as myself in LoL then just come out and say it. Make it so you simply cannot queue up for a game unless you have at least 1-2 other people to queue up with plain and simple, because as it stands now that is what it's looking like.

Let the down voting commence.

i've successfully quit from the game, strangely overwatch is more entertaining than league.

I plan to transition to Overwatch after my vacation in a week. Can't wait.

Same. Definitely agree with thread and point on Overwatch. It is surprisingly similar to League despite being FPS oriented, mostly, and lacking towers or minions. Very objective based and less TDM than I expected, unlike Battleborn.

DexterousGecko20 votes

down vote away for not circle jerking but huh? no towers, minions (no cs), no buying items, it's an FPS.

objective based is why it's so similar to League? lol. that sums up like half of all video games.

franticFurball3 votes

Because of 2 fundamental differences compared to the twitch-based FPS like CoD or BF:

  • Either you teamplay in OW, or you lose. It doesn't matter how good you are at playing FPS games, how precisely you aim and how fast your reactions...that will not win the game against a team with mechanically worse players who have superior team choherence.

  • You don't need to be good at twitch-FPS mechanics to be good at overwatch. Heros like Symmetra, Reinhardt or Mercy require zero aim, forgive slow reactions and are enormously powerful in the hands of an intelligent player.

You guys getting it on PC or console?

Xengre5 votes

PC definitely. I think that is where the community will really be and the eSport scene for those interested.

I found the fun again in a board-game, Armello. Ranked games aren't implemented yet and we only have 8 heroes so far, but I already have 112 hours played. Funny thing : there's a lot of RNG involved with all those dice rolled, yet I find that I have more impact and control in the outcome of the game than in LoL. I deserve almost every win and can actually find the mistake I did in my losses. Way to go LoL.

Don't forget that you also get penalised by getting less Hextech chests and less Hextech keys, just in case all the other disadvantages aren't unfair enough.

Weasel Kensei2 votes

This.

This is just sick bullshit on Riots part.

"Play with friends and get extra free stuff THEY EARNED, or dont and get less stuff HAHA. Not fair? Oh well fuck you, play with friends because we believe that increases how much you play the game and increases our revenue from gifting and investment in the game $$$"

Everyone I know who plays ranked does so as a solo-player, and thus far none of them have voiced any desire for solo Q.

Is there any data to support the assertion that Solo queue is a widely requested mode, rather than the desire of the vocal minority that these boards represent?

Sum Wun Speshal9 votes

No there is no data to support that. Vocal minority at it again.

Troll for Trump36 votes

There is as much data supporting it as there is data against it.

People not voicing there desires does not mean it's still not a desire.

Attticus Finch8 votes

Can you qualify that assertion?

Troll for Trump23 votes

Surveys about solo queue. Google has some number of surveys

People will point out flaws in the survey, but what survey doesn't? Riot Lyte's survey, too has its flaws.

Sum Wun Speshal13 votes

It is a legitimate desire even if I don't necessarily agree with it. I'm just saying people should stop pretending like everybody wants soloQ back because that is not the case. An overwhelming majority still plays this game and is fine with having DynamicQ replacing SoloQ.

Saying DynamicQ destroyed competitive integrity is ludicrous btw. Especially when the Queue before that put you with 4 strangers that had very limited tools of communication. Same thing with the assumption that SoloQ did a good job of testing your personal skill.

But who am I kidding. I'm gonna get downvoted anyway as long as I don't say nice things about soloQ.

LostFr0st6 votes

I do really want solo queue, but I'd be fine with just getting rid of 4. Just 4, leave all the rest.

If they have enough people for 4 they should be able to find a 5th using clubs or a specific chat room or something.

We have way more grouping tools than we used to, even more so in the future when they let us search for clubs.

Sum Wun Speshal3 votes

Fair enough. Can't argue with that.

My approach would be to improve DynamicQ to do that instead of dumping the whole system just to go back to a queue system that had significant flaws as well.

We finally got rid of extreme toxicity and rolling dice in champ select, praying that you get at least some competent players in SoloQ. DynamicQ is not perfect but the experience in-game has gotten so much better (at least for me).

The only issues I have with it is matchmaking and queue times. Once these issues are solved, DynamicQ would be an improvement to SoloQ in every aspect imo. Maybe make the rank difference between friends even more strict (Silvers with Silvers, Golds with Golds, etc.)

You say they haven't "voiced" a desire for it.

But have you asked them?

Most people aren't gonna randomly spam their friend list and whine about it.

Attticus Finch8 votes

Yes, we've talked about it. I play normals with all my friends over Skype. Lol

But you're missing my point- the anecdote is just to show that the desire for solo queue in ranked is obviously not unanimous, which then began the question how large IS the actual demand for a solo queue? This forum is hardly indicative, as only a very small portion of players post on it.

AninLegions7772 votes

It's obviously not unanimous. Almost no choice in life is. A lot of players don't know about boards. Heck, I found old forums one year after playing this game. So most players can't voice out their opinions. Riot should release statistics to say that the amount of people playing ranked has increased, then we can have a real discussion.

Attticus Finch5 votes

Burden of proof is not on them. You're asking for a fairly major change to the game, which will require allocation of time and effort on the devs part to accomplish. Anyone who is pushing for this change therefore has the burden of showing that there's a high demand for it.

IS3E531E3F96439129 votes

that much was already obvious

allot of IP bonusses are premade only hextech crafting bonus if premading alpha client specifically states ''if you often que up with friends''

shit this game is turning into diablo 3 where if you don't play in a premade/team you're screwing yourself over.

Leopards Ghost23 votes

You cannot be penalized if you play your game. You cannot be penalized if you solo queue. You cannot be penalized if you have a bad game. You cannot be penalized if your teammates gang up on you and go toxtaro.

RIOT. THIS IS HOW REPORT SHOULD FUNCTION. IF THIS ISN'T HOW IT FUNCTIONS YOU NEED TO REBOOT THE REPORT SYSTEM. (by penalizing toxic teams. like the entire team .)

Dr Poro11 votes

I'm pretty sure the report system already works like this. People are not complaining about getting banned because of premades, they're complaining about games being unfun/unfair because of them.

Photos of Ghosts9 votes

... IT HASN'T WORKED LIKE THAT SINCE S2 AT LEAST, PLEASE. Reports flag a game. 9 or 1, the game is flagged and nothing changes, it's stil going to get checked for toxicity.

theyre welcome as filler material for premade teams. they still need us solo players, or que times would be even worse than they are right now.

I WILL TROLL YOU9 votes

You can still Queue solo but there is chance you may face a team of 2 or more. RIOT isn't going out of their way to attack solo players or keep you from playing the game.

Fact is you are carrying around a self created hostile environment where you are the victim and some shadowy evil corporation is singling you out.

Now is the time where the Solo Q crew logs into their ten other accounts and down votes me to make it look as if their opinion is the majority. Please leave the game and go play overwatch. Your whining won't be missed now go ruin someone else's game.

Steven Mcburn11 votes

You realize the exact queue system that exists for ranked existed for normals prior to this season right?

You want your rank to represent the same ELO system used in normals for years?

I'm sure a ton of people will swap accounts to downvote the idiot that doesn't realize the queue doesn't work at all without solo players, and is telling all solo players to quit.

I WILL TROLL YOU5 votes

Solo Queue isn't a good measure of skill. You can't rely on consistent good engages with follow ups and not feeding with complete strangers. If I go 5-0 in lane but the other lanes feed then I get killed constantly by a fed enemy team then end the game with 5-6 you can't realistically say I was bad player.

If you want a good measure of skill you need to have more factors that are in your control than not. 5 mans would be a good measure. Solo Queue really was just an easy way to ease people without lots of friends in the game into competitive play. It wasn't meant to be an all out measure of skill.

As I said above I don't like solo Queue for reasons. One of them is unless you Queue for support you have very long wait time. The other is it enforces and already stale meta. We will probably never see two top ,1 bot or two top two bot , or any other combination (other than in normals) because the queue enforces the meta.

There are reasons to not like it. Wanting to solo Queue is a good reason too. But the problem boils down to the way the people come to complain on the forums. The group who doesn't like Dynamic Queue consistently floods the forums with their opinions and attacks anyone who disagrees with them. As I said before they don't represent us all and a few hundred up votes is far from "everybody as they claim" representing the whole of league.

If you don't like Dynamic Queue that is fine but don't go around pretending everyone shares your opinion.

LatetotheRace11 votes

Solo Q is a measure of your ability to not only lane successfully (or gank), but your ability to strategize with 4 other random players in an effort to beat the 5 random people on the other team. It is a measure of your personal skill, and your ability to play with people you've likely never played with before. Dynamic Q takes a large portion away from that, and often makes strategizing incredibly difficult due to a new level of isolation that did not exist.

Nimble Manta1 votes

"I want my rank to be determined by how well I cooperate with random people online."

Now is where I say "said no one ever" except this thread proves that wrong.

Dextix LT5 votes

The point of it is that everyone is on a level playing field. All players in the game will have to communicate with random people.

Premades ruin the level playing field and take away power from the solo person.

Premades simply reduce the effectivity of solo players.

Nimble Manta1 votes

Riot has provided us statistics that show the majority of matches in dynamic que have a level playing feild. Any argument against dynamic que I can counter by saying "well you could do that before with duo que." The only exception would be the supposed 4 man teams everywhere that are ruining solo players lives, though once again we have stastics showing how rare that is.

Dextix LT3 votes

Wrong, as long as there are solo and duo players together, there is no level playing field. Because the solo player will always be at a disatvantage, no matter in which team he is.

The solo player becomes more dependant on premades to carry him because thy are two and more often than not use voice chat.

Duoq was better than this one, but it was not perfect. However, having duos is infinitely better than having trios or quadros in teams.

As long as premades are matched with solo players there will be no real level playing field.

Arakk019 votes

Toxic solo players are not welcome in league. Those players who want it to be all about them, and their performance. Those players who want to ignore their team until it's time to blame them for stopping their 'carry'. Those players who assume because they got punished for toxicity, it must have been that a premade ganged up on them.

That's not how the report system works, for one, it takes just one report and more reports aren't weighed, just your chat logs. That's also not how League has ever worked. It's always been a team game and Riot has always buffed/nerfed to keep it in that direction. Dynamic Queue punishes TOXIC players that NO ONE aside from other toxic players wants on their team. It rewards the solo players who know how to play with a team.

WoonStruck13 votes

Toxic solo players are not welcome in league.

Premades are just as toxic as solo queue. It only takes one person to get it started, then the rest usually join in. It has little to nothing to do with whether or not you queue with someone. It has everything to do with whether or not that player is an asshole. Solo/premade does not change that.

Those players who want it to be all about them, and their performance.

That's most of League, solo or premade. Getting rid of Solos won't change this.

Those players who want to ignore their team until it's time to blame them for stopping their 'carry'.

Premades tend to ignore/blame solos more than solos ignore other players, since solo players have no safety net to rely on. They have to cooperate with their team more than premades have to cooperate with solos.

That's also not how League has ever worked. It's always been a team game and Riot has always buffed/nerfed to keep it in that direction.

It was a team game before Dynamic Queue, and Dynamic Queue hasn't made it any better or worse in that regard. It just made it worse for solos.

Dynamic Queue punishes TOXIC players that NO ONE aside from other toxic players wants on their team. It rewards the solo players who know how to play with a team.

It doesn't reward solo players. Solo players like that function just as well, if not better, in Solo Queue because there was less organization on the enemy team. It punishes solo players in general. For every good experience a solo has in Dynamic Queue, there are a dozen bad ones. That said, good or bad, its pretty uncommon. Most experiences come out neutral. The bad experiences turn out REALLY bad though.

PiVoRx9 votes

I wonder what Riot wants to achieve, they shit on solo players but still need us to fill premades and soon our numbers will drop and queue times will reach insane lenghts.

So whats the deal here? Riot promotes to play in teams but if everyone will play in 3-4 man premades then who will fill them?

Right now theres 0 motivation to play in solo, no rewards, boosts or anything for acting as meat shield and fill.

Fovere8 votes

This thread demonstrates really well the roots vs. direction of League.

All these people trying to claim somehow DQ = teamwork.

DQ = friends = social setting, not teamwork.

To climb in ranked Solo Queue you needed teamwork. If you didn't have it, you didn't climb.

There is a really, really big difference between "teamwork" and "playing with friends".

ImmortalBloodCY6 votes

I am a soloer.

I beat premades.

Just because you are against a premade that doesnt mean you will lose.

MisterSki5 votes

Riot doesn't and hasn't cared about it's solo players for a long time. Free double IP group weekends and the removal of soloq shows that they don't care if you are just one person better find some people to queue up with a ruin friendships cause this game is the breeding pool for toxicity.

LatetotheRace7 votes

I wouldn't argue that the double ip is necessarily against solo players. Because there's a difference between solo ranked players and complete isolation players. I personally have a few friends who play league, but none of them are at my level in gameplay, so I play ranked alone. That being said, I still thoroughly enjoy playing with them in normals and featured game modes.

Jayjayko5 votes

Agreed.

I've been asking for ages now for an option to -not- be matched with premades, especially on my own team, simply because I cannot stand the harassment they think they can get away with by being the majority in the team. I especially hate how they simply discuss amongst themselves any battle plan (fuck pings right?) since they can just speak to each other on skype group chat or heck are probably sitting in the same room.

RIPxMidnight3 votes

I've spent the past 4 seasons fashioning myself as a solo utility player with a focus on macro strategy and objective control so that I could fit into any team composition or any role and still give my team a chance to win.

In the past 12 months, I've found all that time and effort to have been a waste of time. Solo play and utility ability are no longer valuable in the ranked landscape. First I stopped playing ranked altogether, and then really LoL altogether. I still browse boards and check-in with the hope that League will go back to the awesome game I found it to be... but I've stopped holding out hope and have moved on to new games. It's sad but it's life.

This is a great topic and I wish Riot would address it. However, it will be hard for Riot to take this seriously when the OP is named for some weird pedo lesbian stuff. Rethink some of your life choices, OP.
