How Should I Snowball-Build as an AP Midlaner?

How should I build to snowball an early lead? Suppose my usual build is

item 3285 item 3020 item 3165 item 3157

And that I got first blood in lane before Lost Chapter.

Here’s are my two possible builds

AP Rush

  1. Recall and buy The Dark Seal and, if I have gold, an Amplifying Tome or consumables.
  2. Finish Luden’s Echo.
  3. Buy Sorcerer’s Shoes.
  4. Buy Oblivion Orb.
  5. Upgrade The Dark Seal to Mejai’s Soulstealer if it’s stacked.
  6. Buy a Needlessly Large Rod and continue into Deathcap if I have enough gold, or buy a Blasting Wand and continue into Void Staff if not.

Not finishing Luden’s Echo saves 1,900 gold, which is enough for Sorcerer’s Shoes and the components of Oblivion Orb. However, I would lose 10% CDR, the passive, and some flat mana. Which of these builds is generally better, or is there another way to do this?

The first one is better. It gives you alot more waveclear and doesn't force you into a snowball.

At the point where you skip Ludens for Mejais you'll have quite a bounty on you => You're basicly asking the entire enemy Team to kill you, and if it works you're screwed hard.

If you delay Mejai you get a grasp on the game - how it will play out and if you're able to go for it. If your Team does not get anything done without you creating the opening, get a Zhonyas! If your Team is able to do something - allowing you to step back and use the opportunitys given - get a mejai!

Thanks for this thought-our comment.

Ok, so the utility and stability of Luden’s Echo makes it worth buying even when snowballing. By then, I can see whether my team is winning or losing and whether I’m safe. If so, then Mejai’s should lock in the win. If not, then I should buy a Zhonya’s through Stopwatch after Oblivion Orb and Sorcerer’s Shoes to protect my bounty.

Is that right?

120 AP, 10% MS. Seems like a stacked Seal converted to Mejai’s, trading cheapness for stability.

sometimes, if your 1st back is around 1100 gold, straight up get item 3020 . You will do a significant amout of damage to champions, and even tho ur pushing power wont be that great, the move speed will allow you to roam early, and snowball a lot.

That is spicy. I know that champions like LeBlanc can get away with it. Any examples you know?

Leblanc might be the best actually ^^ works well with ori as well, even if you'll have mana issue. however it will give you extra safeness and that's cool (plus high damage to champions anyway) syndra too idk for others :|
