PETITION : Galio's VO/Personality (Day 1)

Summery : Revert Galio's personality from "muscle-brain body builder" back to "noble and intelligent guardian".

It's true I wasn't a Galio user (like many people), but even I feel that the changes to Galio went to far. I'm fine with the kit changes, I think you did a good job with them to modernize him while maintaining his spells (QE are on Q, AOE taunt is now mobile and can't be negated by CC, and finally has real mobility that isn't a speed boost). The voice actor you chose I think can be fine with a directional change, it's not his fault you gave him the VO lines you did. The model I wish was more of a gargoyle, but I can live with it.

A number of the VO lines are fine, certain interactions are fine, but the problem is that he went from smart, kind, and noble to brain-damaged boxer that thinks he can fight space and the sun which is (personally) the biggest problem with him now. I strongly feel that if you replaced the muscle-brain lines with ones that actually fit Galio's old personality he would be much more well received by people and would feel more Galio than new a champion you could have released with a different name.

Like I sad at the start, I didn't really ever play Galio. Only times I would was ARAM and URF to be honest. However, I always enjoyed listening to his lines and could relax while feeling like a guardian when playing him because of it.

(I would ADD A POLE here, but apparently the site freaks out if you use it.)

I love the new galio.

Like I said, gameplay wise he's fine, however his personality needs reverted because it doesn't feel anything close to who Galio is.

Wouldn't you be excited if you finally got to move after centuries of standing still?

I like his new personality..

I was going to make a poll like this. I'm not a Galio main but I played him frequently enough to get mastery 7 around high gold/low plat rank. The kit change itself is a different topic, but yes, his new VO is kind of embarrassing. To me it doesn't even match his new visual. He still looks like this majestic entity, so why is he like, "DAHHHHHH HEY GUISE YOU WANNA FITE ME AY?"

I would second the OP: Please make him sound like an intelligent majestic guardian again, not a low-IQ lumbering oaf.

This was the same exact problem with Nasus. Old Nasus sounded majestic, serious, solemn. New Nasus sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon anime bad-guy who's trying to sound overly evil/vicious. Whatever. Please change back Galio's attitude.

As someone who actually played a fuckton of old Galio, I will never touch him ever again untill they revert his personality (which I know wont happen) or at least get some decency to release a traditional skin with old voiceover. I hate dumb idiots like this IRL and I have no idea who this personality might appeal to other than before mentioned idiots.

New galio is awesome. And there's a lot of depth to his lines, especially given his lore.

And he's just happy to be able to move. If you were frozen in one position for centuries, wouldn't you be excited ot move again?

Shuyin1784 votes

Happy to move is one thing, getting thrown down a flight of stairs and hitting your head on every step on the way down is another.

Are you referring to how he does stuff like calling Lux "young girl person"? There's actually a good reason for that.

Imagine you live for a really long time. Everyone you ever get to know dies before you, but you keep going. Eventually you're not going to want to use names towards people because what if you get attached and then you can't save them?

And his accent is a british accent, not a "thrown down flight of stairs" accent.

He thinks he can fight space and the sun........ Let that sink in.

midnight oil244 votes

Those are meant to be silly lines. Do you take Au Sol seriously when his taunt towards Taric calls him tacky? Or when Kench calls ahri a prostitute?

Shuyin1782 votes

Considering the rest of his voice over..... yes I do think he believes he can fight the sun and space.

Even with a line like that, it's not like other champs don't have the same sort of problems. Jhin is clumsy with his gun, Camille treats those stronger than her in-lore as dumb, all sorts of champs act arrogant.

It's not exclusive to Galio.

when did galio turn into brolaf?

overseer/protector/guardian "always prepared" "an honor to serve" is in no way similar to

IMA GET IN THERE AND BUST THE BAD GUYS UP!!!

I don't particularly care about what he says, but I will miss his voice. Every time I played him, I felt like I was playing Optimus Prime, which was awesome.

He isn't as brolaf as I originally thought but yeah...didn't like that he was brolaf at all

One bad thing about the rework

I think the new Galio is honestly BETTER. Saying Galio was intelligent is kind of a joke. Its very clear he was obedient, and listened. But he wasn't the smartest, and didn't even know a majority of the world until he met poppy and followed her to Demacia. He wasn't a proactive guardian, he just sat there in a marsh until someone walked by and he got mildly interested in her resolve. He was called "the sentinel's sorrow" but honestly, only his story was sad. He didn't seem sad in game. He sounded like a bland army soldier "Got it" "In flight". He sounded extremely uninterested in anything besides protecting Demacia, he was just following orders. We gave that type of voice to Yorick, a proper sorrowful champion.

The new Galio is confident, not the smartest, but willing to do what It takes to defend the little people he sees as fragile. He only understands what he has directly seen and learned. Hell, he didn't know humans died until he finally saw a corpse, and realized it was a dead soldier. Of course he'd think he could fight the sun and space, he doesn't understand anything about it. He might be ages old, but he only understand what he sees, and can only comprehend them once all the dots align, but he can't test everything because he's a statue, so he can only see whatever is there in front of him, on the battlefield or in Demacia, so of course all he really knows is fighting and anti-magic. He's like a child, who needs visuals to understand before his attention breaks (aka Galio turns into a statue again)

I think this is a step in the correct direction, making champions more dynamic. I love Zac's voicelines, but with changes in lore, he needs a new VO because it clearly doesn't fit what he's supposed to be. Learn to try and enjoy change in lore, and think about the impacts. It might suck a little, but truly, a step in the right direction lore wise.

We aren't talking about lore though.

( How many people even read lore? I've played since S1 and I think I've read one, MAYBE two champ lores. It's not a game that focuses on story, so I don't think many people care about the lore. )

Whether you could determine if Galio was intelligent or unintelligent from his (admittedly probably bad-written and outdated) old lore, is besides the point. His old voice and attitude sounded majestic and intelligent, or, at the very least, his old voice didn't sound unintelligent. The new one does.

"A Guardian is always prepared..."

That's the only thing I miss. Galio had the personality of walnut before. I like the theme they went with, where as Darius was designed as foil to Garen, two Juggernauts both exemplifying what their nations should represent as men. New Galio is a foil to the immortal Sion, which greatly exaggerate the best and worse of their nations, Sion being a blood thirsty war machine that perpetuates the bad guy stereotype of Noxus, Galio is a hero of justice that thinks he can just punch his way through any problem. Which kind of highlights a problem with Demacia despite being the perceived "good guys" they have a very black and white train of thought.

sorry if this might surprise you but old galio's VO had no personality

it was generic/basic and easily forgettable

15 lines is all he had and in no way does old galio have more personality than new galio

a gargoyle sounding like a demacian cop doesnt fit

in the new vo he sounds like that AND more like what a gargoyle would sound like

a creature who doesn't get whats going on because he turns back into a frozen statue (colossus)
