Ping check before a match (Suggestion)

When you queue for ranked, there should be a mandatory ping check before you are allowed to queue. If your ping is shit, you don't get to play ranked.

Shitty ping defined:

Anything above 200 ping that is rapidly fluctuating with a difference greater than 20

3 games in a row I've played today trying to get my placements done, and in every single game at least one person on my team disconnects and never comes back, or disconnects and reconnects multiple times throughout the match.

200+ ping is fine though? 300+ and it starts getting a little laggy. I play with usually 250-300 ping and I do fine, Usually hovering around 255.

Unless, of course there is my worst enemy, packet loss.

I promise you that at a competitive level 200 ping is bad, maybe fine for normal, and maybe you personally do well with it, but if I knew right off the bat that you had 200 ping I would dodge immediately if it was a ranked game. Are you playing from another region? My brother plays with a 6MBPS connection and still gets below 100 ping, and when I had a cheap internet connection and the servers were still located on the west coast, I was still in the 130-140 range playing from the east coast (Georgia specifically)

Packet loss should also be measured I agree, as even a 1% packet loss can cause a drastic decrease in any internet based game / program.

Yes, I am indeed playing from elsewhere. I'm fine with it in ranked, honestly.

sometimes the ping isnt effected til you are in game... reason why you ask? cuz not as much data is being passed while out of game in QUEUE or champ selection.... and if you lose a packet here or there during that time its not as noticeable. but when you need to mash buttons and react in "real time" then ping issues can show themselves

its kinda like a tire on car that goes flat. it only does it when weight/pressure is applied to the tire creating the issue when it just sits there on its own it dont lose as much air.

i get that, but this would prevent a good number of people with bad connections ruining the game for other people. If it happens while you're in game that's a whole different issue, but if you START a ranked game and you know for a fact your internet is crap and/or unreliable, you should not be able to play ranked.

but you know if you have a reliable connection or not before you play ... cuz you pay for it... instead of playing off of neighbor's wifi or whatever else. a ping check dont help that... and OH BTW they show your ping during load screen already

Exactly my point, but many people KNOW that they do not have a good connection, and play ranked anyway, making their team suffer for it.

As far as the ping in load screen, at that point it is too late for the system to prevent a player with bad ping from playing ranked, that's why I was suggesting that this automated ping check take place BEFORE you are allowed to queue.

riot wont do that cuz then they would be subjected to say people with out $ to pay for good connections arent allowed to play their game and so on...

and ping happens no matter what kind of connection you have. and internet gets screwy sometimes beyond peoples control and like i stated earlier sometimes happen after all those "ping checks are passed " and already in game? then what?

my suggestion is ... people need to stop being a bunch of cry babies... that is all the boards are bitching about something in the game or what they think is "wrong " with it. the issues you speak of might effect you once ever 10 games

so 10%?

and if you argue but my MMR, LP won or loss cuz of that 10% of games for ping, connection issues, trolls, afks, feeders, etc if you are good enough you will "rise" and "climb" up that "fake ladder " to whatever "rank" you think you are suppose to be at...

you dont have to win 100% of games.... just slightly more then 50% and if everyone in the game has to deal with that then its likely spread all over the game and the 10% will balance it self out among all the players and it would be a NON FACTOR as indicating your rank or elo

As previously stated, if someone has a good connection at game start, and then gets a bad one once the game is in progress, that is an entirely different issue not intended to be addressed by this suggestion. This suggestion is made to address the issue of people KNOWINGLY playing in ranked games, with bad connections.

To address the argument of riot not doing something like this because of money, I offer this counter argument. If you cant afford decent internet, you probably aren't spending money on RP either, so no money lost.

10% of a good number of games to be affected by an issue with such a simple fix don't you agree?

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

but if all games and players are subjected to the 10% rule then it dont matter it even outs and dont effect anyones rank now does it?

Just to add to this line of reasoning, if your connection is consistently good, then it'll do better than even out, since theres 5 enemy players who potentially have sketchy ping compared to only 4 on your own team.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

well yea... the other team is more likely to have the bad connection/ troll/ afk / feeder then your team

cuz if you dont do any of those only 4 other possible people can on your team where as the enemy team any of the 5 can do it.
