What's the point of Rammus' taunt having an armor reduction effect?

darkdill··4 votes·995 views

Puncturing Taunt reduces armor by 5/10/15/20/25 for only 1.25/1.5/1.75/2/2.25 seconds (or shorter if the enemy resists/purges the taunt). That's... pretty lousy. Realistically, that won't give Rammus any amount of time to exploit that armor reduction.

Can't that taunt's secondary effect be something better? Something actually practical? 25 less armor on an enemy late-game is virtually nothing against a fighter, tank or juggernaut, especially when it usually doesn't even last 2 seconds due to Tenacity.

If you are taunting the tanks as Rammus you are something something horribly wrong

Maybe said tank is caught out of position? Or it's to save your carry from Shen/Sejuani/etc., who actually have decent damage?

if he is caught out of position you have your team to back you up since a tank vs tank fight isn't going to achieve anything other than both tanks taking pitiful damage. If you are using it against someone to save your carry then that's all you need, the carry now has 2.5 seconds to deal all the damage in the world to the one who got to him since you actually peeled for him.

Not at all... sometimes you need to peel for you carries and sometimes those tanks are right up in your marksmans face.

Then the armor reduction doesnt matter.

It isnt meant to effect tanks seriously.

But what would you actually suggest?

darkdill1 votes

Maybe a % armor reduction that lasts 3 seconds, detached from the taunt duration. Then it actually does something useful even if the taunt is cut short.

You're right that 25 isn't a lot on a tank. On a squishy, though...

darkdill2 votes

It only lasts 2.25 seconds max, though. Not good enough. Add on that the armor shred can be removed instantly by a Cleanse or Mikael's, and it only gets worse.

Ironclad Dragon1 votes

If Cleanse or Mikael's being used to cleanse a Rammus taunt, I think they're doing it wrong.

darkdill2 votes

Tell that to the Jinx I was up against with a QSS. And why wouldn't you use Cleanse on a Rammus taunt?

Ironclad Dragon1 votes

Just seems like, well, when I think of things to cleanse, it's usually the big stuff.

darkdill2 votes

Considering if you don't Cleanse it you'll die to Thorns damage (I assume you're an ADC), I'd say Cleansing Rammus' taunt is worthwhile.

Well with the fact that his W gives his AA's more damage cause of his passive, you'd AA them during the duration along side the damage for W. Combine this with a damage per sec ult on a 60 sec base cooldown and you have a decent chuck of damage even to a tank for building defensive.

Rammus has no damage against tanks. Even though his autos might be the highest damage for a tank because of that passive, he has no % hp damage, and because he builds no damage, he can't do damage to tanks. There's a reason the famous "OMG Tank Fight" Gif is of Malph and Rammus, neither of them have damage against tanks. They both chunk adcs they catch, but they do not do anything to tanks like other tanks do to tanks.

the duration needs to be 6 seconds all ranks

also, reduce armor AND mr

DorkunedAuras1 votes

No, last until one of you dies, and reduce their armor and MR to 0 so you do true damage. That would balance it. Oh, and give it 0 mana cost and a 3 second CD with a range of 1000

It's more useful than you're making it out to be. It's helpful when I'm rolling in to top lane to gank top lane and it helps your top laner burst him down. Also useful if you're using taunt to peel for your carries in team fights. What else would you have e do?

darkdill1 votes

It's the taunt effect that's helpful, not the armor reduction. If said reduction must stay, it should at least have its own duration, not be completely tied to the taunt duration.
